Baidu Confirms Wu Tian's Departure, Wenxin Model Set for New Release Next Week

Deep News10-29 16:21

Reports emerged on the afternoon of October 29 suggesting that Wu Tian, Vice President of Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) and Deputy Director of the Baidu Research Institute, had resigned. Baidu's PR manager subsequently addressed the matter on social media.

Baidu confirmed in response that Wu Tian has concluded her tenure at the company. The company also noted that its technical work continues to advance.

Just two days earlier, on October 27, Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU) released and open-sourced Wenxin Unlimited OCR 2, achieving arbitrary-page document parsing for the first time and pushing the upper limit of OCR processing from dozens of pages to "unlimited," reaching the current state-of-the-art (SOTA) level. Tests showed that the model can parse all seven books of the entire Harry Potter series in a single pass, totaling over 3,600 pages, while maintaining high accuracy and processing efficiency despite the substantial increase in document length, advancing document parsing technology into the OCR 3.0 era.

It is understood that Wu Tian stepped down from her role as head of the foundation model R&D department in May this year and subsequently transitioned to Deputy Director of the Baidu Research Institute. In the foundation model domain, related work has also been steadily progressing recently.

According to sources close to Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU), new developments regarding the Wenxin model will be publicly announced next week.
