Elon Musk stated in a post on X that for those unaware, SpaceX has shifted its focus to constructing a self-sustaining city on the Moon. He believes this goal could be achieved in under 10 years, whereas establishing a presence on Mars would require more than 20 years.
SpaceX's mission remains consistent: to expand consciousness and life as we know it among the stars.
A journey to Mars is only feasible every 26 months when planetary alignment allows, with the trip itself taking six months. In contrast, spacecraft can be launched to the Moon every 10 days, with a travel time of just two days. This frequency enables the much faster construction of a lunar city compared to one on Mars.
That said, SpaceX will also work towards building a city on Mars and plans to initiate this project within approximately 5 to 7 years. However, the primary priority is securing the future of human civilization, and the Moon offers a quicker path to achieving that.
