Rocket Lab USA, Inc. (RKLB) surged 5.07% during intraday trading on Thursday, following news that Japan's Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space (iQPS) has scheduled its next satellite for launch on the company's Electron rocket.

iQPS announced that its QPS-SAR-18 “SUSANOO-II” synthetic aperture radar satellite is set to launch from late August 2026 on Rocket Lab’s Electron into a 575 km orbit. The mission is part of a broader program targeting a 24-satellite constellation by May 2028, which could generate additional launch opportunities for the small satellite launcher.

The selection underscores growing commercial demand for Rocket Lab’s launch services, with iQPS highlighting the cost-effectiveness and lightweight design of its satellite system—a match for Electron’s dedicated small-payload capability.
