MAS keeps monetary policy unchanged for third time in a row
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) kept its exchange rate-based monetary policy unchanged on Monday (Jan 29), standing pat for the third consecutive meeting and in line with market expectations.
In its monetary policy statement, the Singapore central bank said it will “maintain the prevailing rate of appreciation” of its Singapore dollar nominal effective exchange rate (S$NEER) policy band.
Manufacturing output dips 2.5% YoY in December
Singapore’s manufacturing output fell by 2.5% YoY and 1.7% MoM, the latest data released by EDB Singapore revealed.
Excluding biomedical manufacturing, which recorded a 23.9% YoY decline, December’s manufacturing output would have increased by 0.5% YoY and 3.6% MoM.
Apart from biomedical manufacturing, general manufacturing (-15.9% YoY) and precision engineering (-.7.4% YoY) also recorded lower output in December.
7 in 10 S’poreans feel it’s “unnecessary to get married” or “have children” due to stress and cost of living
In a recent survey conducted by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) in Singapore, it was found that 7 in 10 young Singaporeans feel it is “not necessary to get married,” The Straits Times reports.
The goal of the survey, which gathered responses from 2,356 Singapore residents aged 21 to 64 between November and December last year, was to get a sense of what Singaporeans think about issues like “family, well-being, work, and other areas.”
