A new Phase III clinical study evaluating Brenipatide injection in adult participants with depression has been registered by Eli Lilly on August 17, according to the official website of the Drug Clinical Trial Registration and Information Publication Platform.
Data from the Insight database indicates that Brenipatide is the first GLP-1 class product worldwide to initiate a Phase III clinical trial for depression.
Brenipatide is an investigational GLP1R/GIPR dual agonist and represents Eli Lilly's second GLP-1/GIP dual-target drug following tirzepatide. Its highest global development stage is Phase III, and it has not yet received marketing approval.
Beyond depression, Eli Lilly has also initiated two additional Phase III studies of Brenipatide targeting alcohol use disorder. The company is further exploring other indications, including bipolar disorder, asthma, nicotine dependence, schizophrenia, diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome, constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, among others.
