Byd Company Limited has announced plans to unveil its humanoid robot at the "Di Space" venue in August, according to a statement released on Sunday afternoon.
The announcement follows a promotional poster for the robot shared by the BYD Di Space Zhengzhou venue, which read, "Early August, a new friend wants to meet you."
Di Space, as described in the promotional materials, is an immersive science education space designed by BYD for the public, integrating automotive culture, design, technology, and experience.
In June, BYD Company Executive Vice President Li Ke confirmed in a talk show that the company is developing a humanoid robot. "When we are all older, every home will have three robots: one to clean, one to cook, and one to chat and walk with you," she said. Li Ke argued that the competition in robotics ultimately comes down to who has the strongest manufacturing capabilities and the most advanced software and hardware. For an automotive company, these capabilities are already in place and can be easily transferred to robotics.
Additionally, Li Ke noted that the company does not necessarily need to build the entire humanoid robot in-house. Instead, BYD plans to create an open platform, allowing for both its own robots and collaborations with other companies on robotic projects.
