Dow Jones04-02

By Chelsey Dulaney

Markets posted modest moves ahead of the 4 p.m. ET White House event at which President Trump is due to announce his tariff plans.

Many investors are staying on the sidelines, given the lack of clarity about what to expect. Trump's economic team was preparing a third tariff option Tuesday, WSJ's Gavin Bade reported late yesterday.

In recent trading Wednesday:

-- Futures tied to the Dow industrials, S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 fell. The S&P and Nasdaq Composite ended higher Tuesday, while the Dow slipped.

-- European stocks dropped. Germany's DAX declined about 1%, while indexes in France and the U.K. ticked lower. Asian indexes were little changed.

-- Global auto and pharma stocks declined. Tesla shares edged lower in premarket trading, ahead of the expected release of quarterly sales figures.

-- U.S. Treasury yields and the dollar were little changed.

-- Bitcoin prices held steady above $85,000.
