Following the killing of Iran's longstanding theocratic leader Ali Khamenei, the country is now run by an interim triumvirate council dominated by hardline clerics.

-- Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, head of the Islamic Republic's seminaries who is known for campaigning against atheism and Christianity.

-- Judiciary chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, a former intelligence minister and also a cleric who oversaw a crackdown of dissenters in Iran's courts.

-- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, a moderate who hasn't been seen in public since the start of the strikes.
