Shopee, a unit of Singapore-headquartered Sea Ltd., is expected to let go of hundreds of employees globally as part of its push to adopt AI into its daily operations, according to people familiar with the matter, as reported by the Straits Times on Tuesday.
The layoffs started this week and represent around 8% of Shopee's developer workforce, the report said.
According to people familiar with the matter, more job cuts could follow, the report added.
