President Donald Trump on July 30 criticized Republican Senators John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina for refusing to support his nominee for Attorney General, Todd Blanche, whom Trump described as a "STAR." In a post on X, Trump noted that both Cornyn and Tillis had previously voted to confirm Merrick Garland as Attorney General, and he warned that he would temporarily withdraw Blanche's nomination if they do not "do the right thing," only to resubmit it after they leave office.
"Todd Blanche is a STAR, and everyone knows it! He has the potential to go down as one of the Greatest Attorney Generals of All Time," Trump wrote. He added that both senators have had their political careers "ended by my action" after he refused to endorse them. Trump said he had "no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd’s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office."
