Pakistan's defense minister Khawaja Asif said the US and Iran are "close to some sort of arrangement" over the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
Asif told reporters in Islamabad that "things are shaping up in favor of peace," without giving details, according to Bloomberg. Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran for talks with his Iranian counterpart, the report said, citing Iran's semi-official Iranian Students' News Agency.
Talks between Iran and Oman about reopening Hormuz to some maritime shipping have reached an advanced stage, Bloomberg reported, citing an Al Jazeera report attributed to a Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
A White House official said President Donald Trump believes he is in a strong negotiating position and is in no rush to secure a deal, adding that the US sees Iran's demands as constantly shifting amid mounting economic pressure and factional infighting in Tehran, according to the report.
