Sometimes, the best trades happen in just a few hours or even minutes. ⏱️ Whether it was perfect timing, strong instincts, or pure luck, we want to hear from you!

Some believe that a volatile market is the easiest time to make money. This week’s earnings season volatility presents a perfect opportunity for short-term trades.

In last week’s discussion, many of you shared great signals for buying opportunities! Click to find more: If a Stock Is Too Strong, What Signals Tell You It’s Safe to Enter?

Are these signals also suitable for short-term trading?

Or could we use Bollinger Bands as a reference?

Have you ever had a successful short-term trade?

Just like this:

Tigers who use contra account to realize a quick profit.

  1. For example, do you usually take profit when a stock or a call/put option goes up by a certain percentage?

  2. Do you prefer short-term trading in stocks you're familiar with?

  3. Or do you find it easier to chase momentum and trade popular meme stocks instead?

I prefer to do short term trading with stocks that I'm familiar with, like DBS [Chuckle]... like the previous Deep Diving 🤿 & my itchy hand reacted in Auto mode [OMG]... even though no set-up [Facepalm]....But the Stock is strong and recovered with profits [LOL]... I wouldn't try this if I'm not familiar with it $DBS(D05.SI)$ [Chuckle].. now waiting to Exit [Call] [Eye]. ... August pocket money 💰 in the making 💪 @JC888 @Barcode @koolgal @Shernice軒嬣 2000 @Shyon

🌟🌟🌟Short term trading is exhilarating.  You enter with speed, precision and intent.  But there is also merit in long term trading too.  Take DBS $DBS Group Holdings(D05.SI)$ for example.  It recently reached its all time high at SGD 50.98.  I could have sold it early, booked a modest gain and moved on.   But something told me to hold on.  Not just for the numbers but for what DBS represents : resilience and a deep rooted belief in Singapore's future.   That decision allowed me to achieve a return that is over 100%.  This is not through timing but through conviction, patience and time in the market.

As the late great Charlie Munger likes to say :  The Big Money is not in the Buying and Selling but in the Waiting. "

In the past, I m hungry for dividend (I m still hungry for dividend[LOL][Happy]), but last month, I told myself I need to have a mixture of growth stocks n dividends too.

I did a calculation yesterday that I might have a shortfall of $4k to achieve my KPI of $36K this year. Purely from cash investment n excluding SRS. If including SRS, I have achieved it. Hence, I have to put on my thinking cap to achieve my KPI.

I didn’t want to share the SG counters I bought last month and this month as everyone of us have our own plan. Just follow your plan n not blindly follow others as my average cost could be very low. Taking $SIA(C6L.SI)$ & $SGX(S68.SI)$ as an example. Former was acquired during Covid period whereas latter was purchased way before Covid period. Hence, if I were to add more of them, I am still generating profit. [USD][USD]

For short-term trades, I usually stick to my EMA indicator, but instead of using a daily chart, I switch to the 15-minute chart for faster signals. I find that combining EMA crossovers with volume spikes gives me a clearer picture of momentum shifts.

I also like using a Bollinger Bands (20) breakout as an additional signal—especially when the price breaks out with strong volume after a period of consolidation. That said, I only apply this approach to stocks with big news or announcements, as these tend to create the volatility and liquidity needed for a short-term setup to work. This combination of technical analysis and market catalysts has given me some of my best quick trades.

If there’s no strong news driver, I prefer to trade stocks for mid to long terms instead. Short-term trades can be exciting and profitable, but for me, they work best when backed by both technical signals and a clear catalyst.

I definitely find it easier to chase momentum and trade popular names. I have done this with mixue and popmart. The IPOs have also been easy to trade as they tend to rise on day 1 and that is a good opportunity to swing trade. However, the risky thing is that sometimes the stock can become over-valued as many investors rush to buy and there are not always many diamond hands. So, I have learnt not to be greedy and would exit early. I prefer to have less profits than to be a bag holder. I normally exit when the price has reached my personal threshold or the absolute profit has reached my satisfaction. Typically, if the stock has run up 15% or returns have hit at least SGD $1000, I would prefer to exit before I get burnt.

The best proud moment is that I bought ifast at $0.78 !!! How I bought it is that day ifast made a profit turnaround earnings report and it made a big huge candle with huge vol . I decided to enter the next day . Holded it for few years and when Covid period it started to move up . Sold it @ $3 . Looking back I shd have hold it tight but we’ll all see clearly in hindsight . ❤️🌹
