Tesla's market cap is now under $700 billion, while Apple is worth $2.3 trillion and oil producer Saudi Aramco is worth $2.1 trillion.

Analysts had expected Musk to voice optimism about Tesla in the conference call. Some experts say Musk may need to sell about $3 billion more in stock after the earnings announcement to help fund the deal.

Musk on Wednesday said he was excited about his pending acquisition of Twitter Inc (TWTR.N), although he and other investors were overpaying for the social media company.

Musk also said Tesla's Cybertruck pick-up truck was on track to enter production in the middle of next year and its heavy duty semi truck, which will begin deliveries later this year, could see 50,000 units in North America in 2024.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Given the magnitude of such price movements, my view is that the market has already fully bakedits incoming Q3 earnings report (scheduled on Oct. 19, 2022) into the current prices. And as such, I foresee the stock to be range bound between $175 and $250 in the near future. I do not see major catalysts to break this range till its Q4 delivery report.

This article will detail my analysis of these trigger points so investors can better prepare. Overall, I see more downside (about 22%) than upside (about 12%) in the near term. Although a $175 price, if reached, would represent an excellent entry point for both swing trading and long-term holding.

For swing traders, fundamental valuation metrics may be misleading for extremely volatile stocks like TSLA. It is a well-known fact, for such stocks, bottom valuation can occur at the bottom of their near-term cycle and vice versa. Hence, swing traders might find the first chart below more helpful. The stock is currently 46.6% off its recent high. And in the past since 2017, the stock has suffered corrections as large as this current only 3 times: in 2019, 2020, and most recently in 2022. As you can see, in each case, the stock staged a rapid rebound shortly afterward. And the $175 price, if reached due to jitter caused by its Q3 earnings report, would represent a 57% decline off its recent peak, closest to the largest retraction of 60% only during the COVID fire sale.

The remainder of this article is more oriented toward long-term holders. A price of $175 would translate into an FW EV/EBITDA of 26.4x, and next, you will see why such an entry valuation creates favorable returns potential in the long term.

Seeking Alpha data

Author based on Yahoo data

Long-term growth potential intact

I view the Q3 delivery miss only as a short-term speed bump. To wit, Tesla produced 365,923 vehicles in Q3 and delivered 343,830. These numbers still represent remarkable growth (in the range of 40-50% YOY growth and the range of 30-40% QoQ). However, these numbers missed consensus estimates for deliveries by about 4%.

First, TSLA still enjoys capital allocation flexibility and is still investing aggressively toward growth. The following chart provides a summary of TSLA maintenance and growth capital spendingĀ in the recent past since Jan 2020. Its total depreciation and amortization ("TDA") are $3.4B. Its CAPEX expenditures are at $7.15B, exceeding its total TDA by $3.75B. In relative terms, its CAPEX expenditures are more than 2x of its TDA.

Seeking Alpha data

And hence, a large part of its CAPEX spending is toward growth CAPEX. If we approximate its maintenance CAPEX by the TDA, then it has been on average $2.57B since 2020 as seen from the top panel above. And its total CAPEX has been on average $4.76B. The difference of $2.19B can then be used to approximate the amount of growth CAPEX it has been reinvesting. In other words, the growth CAPEX is on average about 46% of the total CAPEX spending in recent years. As a result, its owners' earnings ("OE") are much higher than its accounting EPS because the growth CAPEX should be added back to its owners' earnings, as shown in the chart below.

The chart below shows TSLA's true economic earnings compared to its accounting EPS using Greenwald's method as detailed in myĀ earlier articleĀ or his book entitledĀ Value Investing. As seen, TSLA's OE has systematically exceeded its accounting EPS and also its FCF (free cash flow) since 2018. As of 2021, its OE is about $9 per share compared to an accounting EPS of only ~$2 per share.

Author based on Seeking Alpha data

Non-linear growth drivers down the road

Looking further out, there are longer-term growth drivers that are highly nonlinear. Currently, TSLA is still a "car" company that derives the bulk of its income from manufacturing and selling cars (84.7% of its total revenue as seen in the chart below).

However, its other segments, the non-manufacturing segments, are growing rapidly. As a notable example, its automotive services now represent 7.06% of its total revenue. With its FSD potential, such services can break all the limitations of hardware manufacturing. It could become totally scalable just like a software platform, and as a result, enjoys higher-order nonlinear growth. As detailed inĀ my earlier article, a few key factors to consider:

FSD can lead to more miles driven. For example, researchers at theĀ Institute of Transportationat the University of California began to show that automated or semi-automated vehicles like those TSLA makes, when there are enough of them in operation, can lead to increased vehicle miles traveled ("VMT").

The FSD technology becomes more valuable when more people use it. In the 2022 AnnualĀ Meeting of StockholdersĀ (Thursday, August 4, 2022), Musk believes that Tesla's cumulative production of vehicles will reach 100 million. Meanwhile, its autonomous driving technology is maturing and scaling up rapidly. As of Q2-2022, over 100,000 Tesla drivers in North America had access to Full Self-Driving Beta. And the accumulated miles driven by Full Self-Driving had been expanding exponentially and reached 35 million miles so far.

The factors create new strategies for TSLA to monetize in areas like service sales (service income will be proportional to VMT), insurance income (which would be also proportional to VMT but in a different paradigm with large-scale FSD deployment), and also autonomous driving functions and software.

BofA data and TSLA presentation

The near-term headwinds

Although in the near term, there is no shortage of headwinds to keep the stock price range bound as mentioned above. And the Q3 delivery miss is a symptom of these ongoing headwinds. These headwinds include limited production and shutdowns at its factory in Shanghai for a large part of 1H 2022 and potential disruptions for the rest of the year also. The company still faces challenges associated with ongoing supply-chain disruptions and labor shortages. At the same, other traditional automakers are investing aggressively in their EV development too and competing fiercely for market share. Also, EV adoption is currently driven primarily by government regulations and subsidies, and these regulations and subsidies could change with short notice.

These uncertainties are encapsulated in the large variance in theĀ consensus estimates. A total of 31 analysts provided earnings revisions for the last 3 months. And the revisions are close to a perfect split between Up Revisions and Down Revisions. A total of 18 analysts submitted an up revision and 13 a down revision. The revised estimates vary widely too. Even for 2022, the lower end of the consensus EPS is $3.75 and the high end is $6.53, a variance of 74%. And the variance widens further to 112% for 2023.

Author based on Seeking Alpha data

The $175-250 trading range again

At its current price level, its valuation is still elevated despite the recent correction. To wit, it is currently valued at around 10.2x EV/sales ratio and 47.8x EV/EBITDA. On an FW basis, the multiples are a bit lower but it is at around 8.3x EV/sales ratio and 33.6x EV/EBITDA. It is expensive both in relative terms and absolute terms in my mind. As a reference point, the overall market is valued at about 3.5x EV/sales and 16x EV/EBITDA. On an absolute scale, leading institutions likeĀ BofA Global ResearchĀ model its near-term valuation around 13x EV/Sales and 55x EV/EBITDA. I think these multiples are way too optimistic given the near-term headwinds and the historical volatility.

My target valuations are provided in the second chart below. As seen, I am essentially assuming Ā½ of the valuation provided by BofA in the near term. The lower bound of my price range corresponds to 6.5x FW EV/sales ratio and 26.4x EV/EBITDA. The estimates were made using financial data provided by SA as summarized in the lower part of the table.

Seeking Alpha data

Author based on Seeking Alpha data

Risks and final thoughts

To reiterate, I see Tesla stock price oscillating in a relatively narrow range of $175-$250 trading range till the Q4 delivery report. With the recent large price movements, the market has baked in the Q3 earnings report already. Overall, I see more downside in the near term than upside due to the near-term headwinds. Its Q3 delivery miss is a symptom of these headwinds, including the lingering effects from its Shanghai factor shutdown, ongoing supply-chain disruptions, labor shortages, et al.

While there might be some interesting opportunities for both swing traders and long-term investors, the $175 price, if reached, would represent an excellent entry point for both swing trading and long-term holding. A price of $175 would represent a 57% decline off its recent peak, closest to the largest retraction of 60% only during the COVID firesale. For long-term-oriented investors, a price of $175 would translate into a 26.4x EV/EBITDA, leaving a large margin of safety. It is about Ā½ of the multiples used by leading institutes such as BofA (55x) and close to its multi-year bottom of 23.6x observed in early 2020. Such a margin of safety shortens the timeframe for its nonlinear growth potential such as production ramp-up and FSD to catch up with its current valuations.

This article is written by Envision Research for reference only. To wit, Tesla produced 365,923 vehicles in Q3 and delivered 343,830. These numbers still represent remarkable growth (in the range of 40-50% YOY growth and the range of 30-40% QoQ). However, these numbers missed consensus estimates for deliveries by about 4%.First, TSLA still enjoys capital allocation flexibility and is still investing aggressively toward growth. The following chart provides a summary of TSLA maintenance and growth capital spendingĀ in the recent past since Jan 2020. Its total depreciation and amortization (\"TDA\") are $3.4B. Its CAPEX expenditures are at $7.15B, exceeding its total TDA by $3.75B. In relative terms, its CAPEX expenditures are more than 2x of its TDA.Seeking Alpha dataAnd hence, a large part of its CAPEX spending is toward growth CAPEX. As a result, its owners' earnings (\"OE\") are much higher than its accounting EPS because the growth CAPEX should be added back to its owners' earnings, as shown in the chart below. As of 2021, its OE is about $9 per share compared to an accounting EPS of only ~$2 per share.Author based on Seeking Alpha dataNon-linear growth drivers down the roadLooking further out, there are longer-term growth drivers that are highly nonlinear. Currently, TSLA is still a \"car\" company that derives the bulk of its income from manufacturing and selling cars (84.7% of its total revenue as seen in the chart below). As detailed inĀ my earlier article, a few key factors to consider:FSD can lead to more miles driven. For example, researchers at theĀ Institute of Transportationat the University of California began to show that automated or semi-automated vehicles like those TSLA makes, when there are enough of them in operation, can lead to increased vehicle miles traveled (\"VMT\").The FSD technology becomes more valuable when more people use it. And the accumulated miles driven by Full Self-Driving had been expanding exponentially and reached 35 million miles so far.The factors create new strategies for TSLA to monetize in areas like service sales (service income will be proportional to VMT), insurance income (which would be also proportional to VMT but in a different paradigm with large-scale FSD deployment), and also autonomous driving functions and software.BofA data and TSLA presentationThe near-term headwindsAlthough in the near term, there is no shortage of headwinds to keep the stock price range bound as mentioned above. And the variance widens further to 112% for 2023.Author based on Seeking Alpha dataThe $175-250 trading range againAt its current price level, its valuation is still elevated despite the recent correction. The estimates were made using financial data provided by SA as summarized in the lower part of the table.Seeking Alpha dataAuthor based on Seeking Alpha dataRisks and final thoughtsTo reiterate, I see Tesla stock price oscillating in a relatively narrow range of $175-$250 trading range till the Q4 delivery report. With the recent large price movements, the market has baked in the Q3 earnings report already. Overall, I see more downside in the near term than upside due to the near-term headwinds. Its Q3 delivery miss is a symptom of these headwinds, including the lingering effects from its Shanghai factor shutdown, ongoing supply-chain disruptions, labor shortages, et al.While there might be some interesting opportunities for both swing traders and long-term investors, the $175 price, if reached, would represent an excellent entry point for both swing trading and long-term holding. Throughout the pandemic, individual South Koreans thronged into Tesla stock, increasing their combined holdings more than a hundredfold, to exceed $15 billion. It makes them key stakeholders in one of the largest companies in the world by market value, with a collective share as big as those of Larry Ellison or US money manager T. Rowe Price Group Inc. They tend to be dip buyers who jump in when the stock retreats, helping curb declines.

But thereās an unhappy undercurrent to such enthusiasm: As South Koreaās wealth gap widens, many of these investors see risky bets on stocks and cryptocurrencies as their only realistic path to financial independence. Tesla is a favorite of retail traders worldwide, but Musk has generated a following in the country with something that approaches cultlike fervor among struggling wage earners. They call themselves Teslams, blending the words āTeslaā and āIslamā to show the strength of their faith in the company. Some sign off on tweets with the word āTemen,ā their play on āTeslaā and āamen.ā

Park and her husbandāuniversity graduates who landed jobs in the finance sector before marrying and starting a familyāhadnāt planned on risking everything on Tesla. Then the already hot property market reached a boiling point when the central bank cut interest rates to a record low after the coronavirus outbreak began in 2020.

The couple had sold their home in late 2019, hoping to buy a bigger one, but were left stranded as prices accelerated beyond their borrowing capacity. The same story has played out in many countries recently, but itās emblematic of South Korea, where the cost of apartments in the greater Seoul metropolitan area doubled over the past five years, outpacing pay increases by more than 80 percentage points. A typical three-bedroom apartmentāthe most popular sizeācosts 1.24 billion won ($924,235) in Seoul on average, according to Kookmin Bank.

āI thought I would live well by working at a good company after college, but the reality is that we are the poorest in our neighborhood,ā says Park, 40, echoing the kind of frustration that helped inspire Netflix Inc.ās Korean drama Squid Game. āLiving as a salaried worker, there are so many limitations.ā

A driver charges his Tesla Model 3 at a charger station in Suwon.Photographer: SeongJoon Cho/Bloomberg

Red flags abound. Thereās Muskās high-profile disputes with regulators; his on-again, off-again bid for Twitter Inc.; and the volatility itās caused in Teslaās share price. But investors such as Park find excitement in the drama. Although Tesla shares have dropped more than 25% from their 2021 high, theyāre still up 1,900% over the past three years. That compares with an increase of about 40% for Samsung Electronics Co.āthe most widely held stock in the countryāand even less for Koreaās Kospi index.

āWith this man, I thought we could go all-in,ā says Park, who bought at an average price of $668 a share, well below the close of $870 on Aug. 22. She and her husband see Musk as a visionary who will succeed in continuing to effect change in the auto industry. āHeās doing things that nobody was thinking of before,ā she says.

Individual Koreans held about 1.6% of the companyās equity as of Aug. 17, according to calculations by Bloomberg News based on data from Koreaās central securities depository. Thatās more than their combined investments in Alphabet, Apple, Microsoft, and Nvidia, the data show. There are no official figures on the total holdings of US retail traders in Tesla, which is assumed to be larger given the bigger pool of investors in its home market. Giacomo Pierantoni, head of data at Singapore-based Vanda Research, estimates that individuals globally, excluding Musk and Ellison, own about 15% of the company.

The allure of Tesla is even stronger among people in their 20s and 30s who have fewer assets to start with than couples such as Park and her husband. Younger Koreans see little opportunity to follow their parents into the property market and are increasingly worried about repeating the financial struggles of their grandparents. Despite their lifetime of slogging that transformed the economy into an export powerhouse, elderly Koreansā poverty rate is the highest among the 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

A Tesla store in Seoul.Photographer: SeongJoon Cho/Bloomberg

āI fell into a panic that I might never be able to buy a house,ā says Son Gilhun, a 27-year-old forklift driver who lives in Hanam on the southeast outskirts of the capital. āInstead of giving up, I decided to follow my older colleagues in buying stocks.ā He gambled heavily on Tesla and amassed a stock portfolio worth about $100,000 during the pandemic by adopting a frugal lifestyle and channeling half his $2,000 monthly paycheck into equities. Son trimmed his Korean holdings and boosted his stake in the carmaker in June when the shares fell below $700. His immediate goal is to buy a Tesla and, if he can make enough money, eventually a house.

Muskās recent sale of about 7.92 million sharesāto accumulate cash before a trial that could force him to follow through on an agreement to acquire Twitterāhas drawn mixed responses from the Teslams. Some vented their disappointment on social media. Others hoped for another dip-buying opportunity, which didnāt materialize. Son was sanguine, describing it as ānot so desirableā but understandable given the situation with Twitter. That compares with an increase of about 40% for Samsung Electronics Co.āthe most widely held stock in the countryāand even less for Koreaās Kospi index.āWith this man, I thought we could go all-in,ā says Park, who bought at an average price of $668 a share, well below the close of $870 on Aug. 22. She and her husband see Musk as a visionary who will succeed in continuing to effect change in the auto industry. āHeās doing things that nobody was thinking of before,ā she says.Individual Koreans held about 1.6% of the companyās equity as of Aug. Despite their lifetime of slogging that transformed the economy into an export powerhouse, elderly Koreansā poverty rate is the highest among the 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.A Tesla store in Seoul.Photographer: SeongJoon Cho/BloombergāI fell into a panic that I might never be able to buy a house,ā says Son Gilhun, a 27-year-old forklift driver who lives in Hanam on the southeast outskirts of the capital. āInstead of giving up, I decided to follow my older colleagues in buying stocks.ā He gambled heavily on Tesla and amassed a stock portfolio worth about $100,000 during the pandemic by adopting a frugal lifestyle and channeling half his $2,000 monthly paycheck into equities. Son trimmed his Korean holdings and boosted his stake in the carmaker in June when the shares fell below $700. His immediate goal is to buy a Tesla and, if he can make enough money, eventually a house.Muskās recent sale of about 7.92 million sharesāto accumulate cash before a trial that could force him to follow through on an agreement to acquire Twitterāhas drawn mixed responses from the Teslams. Some vented their disappointment on social media. Others hoped for another dip-buying opportunity, which didnāt materialize. Son was sanguine, describing it as ānot so desirableā but understandable given the situation with Twitter. Park was angry at first but is keeping faith with her choice. āTeslams like myself are not changing our investment,ā she says. āWe are staying firm.ā","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":302,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9992309271,"gmtCreate":1661257606197,"gmtModify":1676536483704,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Occidental(OXY)$Ox bullish ","listText":"$Occidental(OXY)$Ox bullish ","text":"$Occidental(OXY)$Ox bullish","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/677446902b52b23c9feb41a4291c2bf3","width":"1284","height":"2790"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":9,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9992309271","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":187,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9996533499,"gmtCreate":1661184680513,"gmtModify":1676536469585,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Pm good ","listText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Pm good ","text":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ Pm good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9996533499","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":298,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9993815392,"gmtCreate":1660660622019,"gmtModify":1676536373978,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Short notice ","listText":"Short notice ","text":"Short notice","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9993815392","repostId":"2259350834","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2259350834","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1660659300,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2259350834?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-08-16 22:15","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Teslaās Rapid Run Puts Stock on Pace for 50% Rise From May Low","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2259350834","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"(Bloomberg) -- Tesla Inc. briefly extended a recent rally to rise 50% from lows touched in late May ","content":"

(Bloomberg) -- Tesla Inc. briefly extended a recent rally to rise 50% from lows touched in late May on Tuesday. Furthermore, CEO Elon Musk tweeted a hint that two new EV models will be shipped out.

For these reasons, or just because Tesla is a premier business and a pioneer in vehicle electrification, you should consider owning TSLA stock now.

Make no mistake about it: Musk is a controversial figure. Everybody and his uncle has been talking about how Musk sold nearly $7 billion worth of Tesla shares recently. Yet, you donāt have to let this distract you from the more important developments surrounding Tesla.

Musk is, among other things, a master of using the media to generate attention for Tesla. He teased a couple of new vehicle models recently, and this could generate investor interest in Tesla. Besides, the upcoming share split will likely entice more people into the trade.

TSLA

Tesla

$927.96

Whatās Happening with TSLA Stock?

Throughout 2022 so far, TSLA stock has achieved $1,000 on more than one occasion but couldnāt hold that level. The buyers will have to put in some work to reclaim $1,000 and keep the Tesla share price there.

However, soon $1,000 wonāt be the near-term objective anymore. Thatās because Teslaās board of directors approved a three-for-one share split, which will apply to shareholders of record on Aug. 17.

So, if youāre serious about investing in Tesla and making the most of this situation, you can buy some TSLA stock shares prior to Aug. 17. Also, mark Aug. 25 on your calendar, as thatās when the stock will begin trading on a split-adjusted basis.

As the shares become more affordable, traders will smaller account sizes will probably be enticed to invest in Tesla. And of course, when there are more buyers involved, this should put upward price pressure on the stock.

Musk Teases Two New Tesla Vehicle Models

As I mentioned before, Musk is masterful when it comes to using the media to generate buzz for Tesla. Thatās exactly what he did when he recently tweeted, āTesla 500 mile range Semi Truck starts shipping this year, Cybertruck next year.ā

This tweet immediately made the financial headlines, so Musk can say, āMission accomplished.ā The Cybertruck is Teslaās version of a pickup truck, so truckers whoāve hesitated to join the vehicle electrification movement might now be persuaded to give Teslaās electric truck a try.

Along with all of this, you can simply hold TSLA stock because the company is an EV-market powerhouse. As you may recall, Teslaās revenue jumped 42% year over year in 2022ās second quarter. Furthermore, CEO Elon Musk tweeted a hint that two new EV models will be shipped out.For these reasons, or just because Tesla is a premier business and a pioneer in vehicle electrification, you should consider owning TSLA stock now.Make no mistake about it: Musk is a controversial figure. Everybody and his uncle has been talking about how Musk sold nearly $7 billion worth of Tesla shares recently. Yet, you donāt have to let this distract you from the more important developments surrounding Tesla.Musk is, among other things, a master of using the media to generate attention for Tesla. He teased a couple of new vehicle models recently, and this could generate investor interest in Tesla. Besides, the upcoming share split will likely entice more people into the trade.TSLATesla$927.96Whatās Happening with TSLA Stock?Throughout 2022 so far, TSLA stock has achieved $1,000 on more than one occasion but couldnāt hold that level. The buyers will have to put in some work to reclaim $1,000 and keep the Tesla share price there. However, soon $1,000 wonāt be the near-term objective anymore. Thatās because Teslaās board of directors approved a three-for-one share split, which will apply to shareholders of record on Aug. 17.So, if youāre serious about investing in Tesla and making the most of this situation, you can buy some TSLA stock shares prior to Aug. 17. Also, mark Aug. 25 on your calendar, as thatās when the stock will begin trading on a split-adjusted basis. As the shares become more affordable, traders will smaller account sizes will probably be enticed to invest in Tesla. And of course, when there are more buyers involved, this should put upward price pressure on the stock.Musk Teases Two New Tesla Vehicle ModelsAs I mentioned before, Musk is masterful when it comes to using the media to generate buzz for Tesla. Thatās exactly what he did when he recently tweeted, āTesla 500 mile range Semi Truck starts shipping this year, Cybertruck next year.āThis tweet immediately made the financial headlines, so Musk can say, āMission accomplished.ā The Cybertruck is Teslaās version of a pickup truck, so truckers whoāve hesitated to join the vehicle electrification movement might now be persuaded to give Teslaās electric truck a try.Along with all of this, you can simply hold TSLA stock because the company is an EV-market powerhouse. As you may recall, Teslaās revenue jumped 42% year over year in 2022ās second quarter. Figures like this should remind us all that Muskās company was, and still remains, an EV pioneer. What You Can Do NowFor all of the reasons discussed here, feel free to add to your share position in Tesla prior to Aug. 17. And if you donāt have a position already, nowās a great time to start one.Otherwise, you may regret it as stock-split mania could push TSLA stock much higher. Eventually, even after the split, the stock might reach $1,000 and then some.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":253,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9999456064,"gmtCreate":1660574847160,"gmtModify":1676535561135,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$Up up ā¬ļø ","listText":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$Up up ā¬ļø ","text":"$Tesla Motors(TSLA)$Up up ā¬ļø","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/9a7f99df0137ccbe89fd2ecbc83f46cc","width":"1284","height":"2682"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":8,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9999456064","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":240,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9999264806,"gmtCreate":1660536573907,"gmtModify":1676533488829,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Foxconn Interconnect Technology Ltd.(FITGF)$Wgood to go ","listText":"$Foxconn Interconnect Technology Ltd.(FITGF)$Wgood to go ","text":"$Foxconn Interconnect Technology Ltd.(FITGF)$Wgood to go","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9999264806","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":192,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":148256342,"gmtCreate":1625981788886,"gmtModify":1703751611040,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$NIO Inc.(NIO)$Have faith on it . That shift has the power to change the automotive industry as much as any other trend, including vehicle electrification and autonomous driving. Automotive investors should start paying more attention to software.
\n
If a āsoftware defined vehicle,ā as the industry calls it, is difficult to grasp, all consumers need to do is look at their phones. Then, perhaps, visit their grandparents.
\n

\n
Phones used to be all about hardware. A rotary phone from Ma Bell didnāt have a lot of features constantly updating. Innovations were push-button numbers and extra long cords. But a new iPhone from Apple (AAPL) regularly has new apps and operating systems making it go a little bit better day by day.
\n
Cars are still in the rotary phone stageāor perhaps the flip phone stage. But that is changing.Tesla (TSLA) pioneered over-the-air updates, and now more auto makers are doing the same, connecting their vehicles to the web.Ford Motor (F) announced this past week a plan to set up a new business around connecting its commercial vehicles.
\n
Investors loved the news. Ford stock rose 9% this past week, to $14.53. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average both rose roughly 1%.
\n
Software-related changes arenāt always perceived as positive, however. On Friday, the Tesla Model 3 lost a Consumer Reports top pick rating. The rating change came down to safety features and Teslaās decision to use vision-only perceptionsāoptical camerasāwhen other auto makers have radars and cameras.
\n
āAccording to NHTSA, Model 3 and Model Y vehicles built on or after April 27, 2021, will no longer receive the agencyās check mark for [next to several safety features],ā the Consumer Reports article said. āNHTSA told CR that it rescinded the check marks after Tesla briefed the agency on production changes due to the transition to Tesla Vision from radar.ā
\n
Essentially, Tesla is taking sensors off the car and relying more on software. Traditional auto makers are adding software, but they donāt tend to remove sensors and hardware. Tesla stock reacted to the news by dropping about 0.9% on Friday, to $625.22. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.1%.
\n
Transitions arenāt without growing pains. AndTesla isnāt likely to backtrack on its decision. In fact, more auto makers are likely to pursue a Tesla-like approach. As the transition to more software-centric vehicles takes place, it has many implications for the way cars are designed and sold.
\n
āTesla has never really focused on model years,ā Tesla power electronics supplier Aptiv (APTV) CEO Kevin Clark tellsBarronās. Tesla can improve power output with software. EV range enhancements can be made with software. In-car entertainment enhancements? Yes, software.
\n
That approach has yielded real benefits. Teslaās gross profit margins are better than BMWās (BMW.Germany), despite being about 30% of BMWās size. Tesla also saves on tooling. Tesla spends less on capital, adjusted for size, than does BMW.
\n
The software-defined vehicle trend is still in the early innings, Clark says. It has a long way to run, but the end of the game for cars might not look exactly like the phone business.
\n
There are a couple of key differences between the industries. Manufacturing cars so teenagers can use them without injuring pedestrians isnāt a trivial matter. Also, the regulatory complex, including crash testing and emissions regulations for automobiles, isnāt comparable to phones either. And a new car costs, on average,$40,000and is expected to last a decade or more. A phone costs $1,000 and lasts until it is dropped one too many times.
\n
Still, attention needs to be paid. At minimum, investors can start tracking how many software engineers auto makers and suppliers have. (Clark says Aptiv has thousands). The winning automotive maker of the future wonāt be those with the coolest looking car. It will be the ones with the best software for entertainment, safety, and reliability.
","source":"lsy1601382232898","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Tesla Is Turning Cars Into Phones. TheĀ Nasdaq CompositeĀ rose 0.1%.\nTransitions arenāt without growing pains. AndTesla isnāt likely to backtrack on its decision. In fact, more auto makers are likely to pursue a Tesla-like approach. As the transition to more software-centric vehicles takes place, it has many implications for the way cars are designed and sold.\nāTesla has never really focused on model years,ā Tesla power electronics supplierĀ AptivĀ (APTV) CEO Kevin Clark tellsBarronās. Tesla can improve power output with software. EV range enhancements can be made with software. In-car entertainment enhancements? Yes, software.\nThat approach has yielded real benefits. Teslaās gross profit margins are better thanĀ BMWās (BMW.Germany), despite being about 30% of BMWās size. Tesla also saves on tooling. Tesla spends less on capital, adjusted for size, than does BMW.\nThe software-defined vehicle trend is still in the early innings, Clark says. It has a long way to run, but the end of the game for cars might not look exactly like the phone business.\nThere are a couple of key differences between the industries. A phone costs $1,000 and lasts until it is dropped one too many times.\nStill, attention needs to be paid. At minimum, investors can start tracking how many software engineers auto makers and suppliers have. (Clark says Aptiv has thousands). The winning automotive maker of the future wonāt be those with the coolest looking car. It will be the ones with the best software for entertainment, safety, and reliability.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":117,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":831347000,"gmtCreate":1629292498400,"gmtModify":1676529993439,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$Haha still waiting ","listText":"$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$Haha still waiting ","text":"$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$Haha still waiting","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/960148cddd2f7f6ae0a10e79f4671d02","width":"1242","height":"2151"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":12,"commentSize":5,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/831347000","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":495,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[{"author":{"id":"3572212908677301","authorId":"3572212908677301","name":"TigerOptions","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/20925853481806adc78dcdfe25f2fe89","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"idStr":"3572212908677301","authorIdStr":"3572212908677301"},"content":"Most hit your cost price last week [LOL]","text":"Most hit your cost price last week [LOL]","html":"Most hit your cost price last week [LOL]"}],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":174820106,"gmtCreate":1627091425005,"gmtModify":1703484052588,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$cool downhill ","listText":"$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$cool downhill ","text":"$Coinbase Global, Inc.(COIN)$cool downhill","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c2fc1214328cff4b2da92eebed624451","width":"1242","height":"2151"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":10,"commentSize":6,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/174820106","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":296,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":165649116,"gmtCreate":1624140005735,"gmtModify":1703829206621,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Sharing stock just in watchlist ","listText":"Sharing stock just in watchlist ","text":"Sharing stock just in watchlist","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/43792c75dc1582d2d890bc99db570528","width":"1125","height":"3158"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":16,"commentSize":3,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/165649116","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":121,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":800252678,"gmtCreate":1627306605994,"gmtModify":1703487225283,"author":{"id":"3578567927092479","authorId":"3578567927092479","name":"Tazjonz","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f84e5692e6809277d605d8442cdc7efa","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3578567927092479","authorIdStr":"3578567927092479"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Waiting for Santa Xmas ","listText":"Waiting for Santa Xmas ","text":"Waiting for Santa Xmas","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":19,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/800252678","repostId":"1151724613","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1151724613","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627292512,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1151724613?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-07-26 17:41","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Tesla Reports Earnings Today. Get ready for a very complicated report.
\n
The EV pioneer will report after the close of trading on Monday, July 26. Wall Street is looking for Tesla (ticker: TSLA) to report about 94 cents in per-share earnings from $11.5 billion in sales, according to FactSet. Beating analyst estimates is important, almost required, for any stock to remain stable in post-earnings trading. Thatās true for Tesla as well.
\n
There will be a lot of moving parts, however, even more than usual for the worldās most valuable car company and its iconoclast CEO Elon Musk.
\n
Factors that will contribute to bottom-line earnings include the global semiconductor shortage, vehicle pricing, vehicle gross profit margins, and the level of profitability in Teslaās battery storage business. In the end, however, investors will want to see a record in operating profitsāno matter how it happens. Thatās what could break shares out of their recent range.
\n

\n
Tesla reported more than $800 million in operating profits in the 2020 third quarter, and the stock more than doubled to around $860 in the three-month span that followed. But since operating profit growth largely paused in the subsequent quarters, shares have traded down from roughly $860 to around $640 recently. Profit stagnation has meant stock stagnation, too.
\n
The good news for Tesla bulls is Wall Street is projecting a fresh record: Operating profit is expected to be $835 million for the second quarter, driven by strong deliveries. The 2021 second quarter marked the first time Tesla delivered more than 200,000 vehicles in a single quarter.
\n
After earnings are digested, there should be endless arguments among bulls and bears about the quality of earnings. For instance, one way Tesla generates sales is by selling regulatory creditsāwhich it earns by producing more than its fair share of electric vehicles. The company generated $518 million in first-quarter credit sales, which helped Tesla beat earnings estimates. There is always debate about what is the ānormalā amount of credit sales and when will those sales dry up. Eventually, both the bulls and bears expect other auto makers to sell their own EVs, cutting off that source of revenue for Tesla.
\n
There is also the issue of Bitcoin. Tesla recognized a small gain on its Bitcoin holdings in the first quarter, but the cryptocurrencyās prices have fallen by roughly half since their April peak. That means there is a chance of a small loss. How investors react is anyoneās guess, but donāt expect Tesla to sell out of its Bitcoin position. Musk continues to indicate his company will transact in the cryptocurrency when Bitcoin mining uses more sustainable power.
\n
Investors will also want to know when Teslaās new Germany plant and Austin, Texas facility will start delivering cars. The Austin plant will build Teslaās Cybertruck. There will also likely be questions about advances in Teslaās driver-assistance functionsāthe company recently started selling its driver-assistance software as a subscriptionāand how much money the company could make from its charging network. Musk tweeted this week Tesla would open its charging network to other EVs down the road.
\n
Those topics and more should be discussed on the earnings conference call scheduled for 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday.
