High Medical Cost Hitting Health Insurers. Will The Pain Worsen With Tariffs?

We have seen how $UnitedHealth(UNH)$ had reported missing their quarterly estimates last week, they had also lowered their guidance. The reason cited is because of higher medical costs. Based on recent reports surrounding UnitedHealth Group's (UHG) Q1 2025 earnings released on 17 April, they have significantly revised its 2025 financial outlook, which includes expectations for higher medical costs than previously anticipated. This led to a reduction in their earnings per share guidance for the year. Shares of UnitedHealth plummeted 22.4% after the insurance giant reported lower-than-expected sales and profits for the first quarter. This was the heaviest decline in the Dow and the S&P 500. Having caused other health insurance stocks to lose grou

S&P 500 $SPX now down 3% on the day 4800 was the bottom before the 90 day pause was announced If we get back there…it’s almost like the market will have completely discount everything that has happened since then. But to be fair to Mr. Market, we have done absolutely nothing other than say “deals are coming” since that 90 day pause — I can’t think of any actual progress other than “some good talks with Japan,” no real momentum on deals with the EU or Canada yet I feel like Trump does something before we get that low again on the S&P but you can’t blame the market for wanting to take us there again. More deals = all of this changes, but markets are getting impatient I still believe we will see many deals, just may take more time…China is the big one and that deal, in my opinion, doe

Dragon Rising, Lion Roars: Singapore’s Silent Winners in China’s Comeback

As China stirs from its economic slumber and begins flexing its might once again, investors are understandably eyeing the mainland with cautious optimism. But here’s the twist – instead of charging straight into the Middle Kingdom, perhaps the smarter play is to look a little closer to home. Singapore, with its shrewdly placed businesses and regional savvy, might just be the dark horse of the China resurgence story. Specifically, I’ve got my eye on three local champions: CapitaLand China Trust (CLCT), DBS Group Holdings (DBS), and Wilmar International. Each is uniquely positioned to ride China’s recovery – albeit in their own charmingly different ways. Singapore connects East and West with precision and flair CapitaLand China Trust: Real Estate with Real Resilience Let’s start with CLCT. Y

A TON OF THINGS HAPPENED IN THE STOCK MARKET TODAY

Here's a full recap: 1. $NVDA Huawei is set to begin mass shipments of its new 910C AI chip to Chinese customers as early as May, according to sources cited by Reuters. The launch comes shortly after the U.S. imposed stricter export controls on $NVDA Nvidia’s H20 chip, prompting Chinese AI firms to seek domestic alternatives. The 910C combines two 910B processors in a single package, delivering performance on par with Nvidia’s H100. With access to Nvidia’s top-tier chips now heavily restricted, Huawei’s 910C is poised to become a key solution for China’s AI developers. Nvidia was down 4.5% today. 2. $TSLA Tesla reports Q1 2025 earnings tomorrow. The street is expecting $0.46 a share in EPS and $22.46B in revenue. Tesla PT Cut to $190: If it Dips After Earnings, a Buying Opportunity For Me

Wall Street is turning pessimistic. UBS has lowered its price target for Tesla to $190 and expects the electric vehicle maker’s car deliveries to decline by 11% in 2025. According to a research report by the UBS analyst team, tariffs imposed by a potential Trump administration on the global auto industry could increase the average cost per vehicle by $5,000 and reduce domestic demand in the U.S. by 9%. q1 delivery missedMeanwhile, analysts at Mizuho also lowered their price target for Tesla to $375, noting that the tariffs would raise Tesla’s prices and erode already weak demand. In their report, Mizuho analysts wrote: “While the lower expectations for 2025 are becoming more widely accepted, we believe Tesla’s overall earnings trajectory remains overly optimistic.
