“Hello Tariffs My Old Friend” – Rally Interrupted as Trade Policy Returns to Center Stage

Markets Pull Back Modestly After 9-Day Rally $S&P 500(.SPX)$ lost 0.6%, snapping a 9-day winning streak after Trump floated 100% tariffs on foreign-made films over the weekend. $NASDAQ(.IXIC)$ 0.7%, Dow down 0.2%, as investors absorbed the re-emergence of policy -driven uncertainty. The retreat followed the strongest rebound from oversold conditions (+3σ) since 2020, suggesting the rally’s pause is more about headline risk than fundamental deterioration. Even modest tariff threats can reignite volatility, particularly with tech and multinationals already priced for perfection. Can UOB, DBS and OCBC Earnings Offset Lower NIMs? Are They Worth Holding Long Term?

🌟🌟🌟The Singapore banking sector is navigating an environment where softening interest rates have resulted in lower net interest margins (NIMs) - a key component of their earnings.  With the recent rate cuts by the US Federal Reserve filtering through to domestic rates, the 3 banks UOB, DBS and OCBC are projected to experience a compression in NIMs.   Yet there is growing optimism that robust non interest income, resilient loan growth and fee based revenues may help offset these margin pressures. Assessing the Impact of Lower NIMs  Recent developments indicate that as domestic rates drop with the 3 month Singapore Overnight Rate Average falling from 3.02% to 2.55%, the Singapore Banks are facing tighter margins on their core interest income.  This compress

AI sector bottomed out? Consider the spread strategy

Goldman Sachs analysts said that at the end of last month, some large technology companies involved in artificial intelligence (AI) released better-than-expected performance reports, indicating that investors have the opportunity to rearrange this sector after the recent correction. The artificial intelligence sector, which has driven the market up in the past two years, has performed sluggishly after entering 2025. In January this year, the emergence of DeepSeek raised questions about the need for U.S. companies to invest billions of dollars in building AI systems, and chip manufacturers and AI-related stocks plummeted. Recently, the trade war initiated by US President Trump has triggered concerns about the slowdown of US economic growth or even recession.Alphabet's earnings report showed

BIG TECH WEEKLY | Why MSFT is the winner of surprise?

Big-Tech’s PerformanceWeekly macro storyline: Bessent Reasons Rate-CutsTariff Shock Moves Forward — U.S. consumer sectors are generally facing a downturn in sales, rising costs, and squeezed profits. This includes companies like McDonald’s, Yum! Brands (KFC/Pizza Hut), Starbucks, Domino’s, and Hershey’s. Many of these companies cater to lower- to middle-income groups, and consumption downgrades are leading these consumers to cut back on non-essential spending. Economic uncertainty is spreading.April ADP employment numbers released on Wednesday showed an increase of only 62,000 jobs, far below expectations and the lowest in nine months. The decline was primarily in education and health services, possibly due to the aftermath of the DOGE healthcare rule, while the impact of tariffs might not

The Indian rupee USDINR has been experiencing notable fluctuations in recent months. As of today, the rupee has strengthened to 84 per US dollar, marking its highest level since October 2024. White House Invitation: What Will Nvidia Ramp Up Investing in US Mean?

President Trump is reportedly planning a White House event around his first 100 days back in office, aimed at promoting investment in America. Among the headline attendees include senior executives from companies such as Nvidia. While these kinds of events generate headlines, the deeper question for investors is: Will anything material come from this? A Public Display, But Substance Still Matters While such high-profile gatherings serve as visible commitments to domestic investment and policy alignment, they don’t automatically translate into business impact. Nvidia’s participation may reflect its leadership in AI and U.S.-centric innovation, but until there are clear and actionable outcomes, the event itself is not a reason to alter an investment thesis. These events often highlight poten

Falcon’s Flight or Icarus’ Fall?

Can CrowdStrike Defend Its Cloud Throne in a Shifting Skyscape? CrowdStrike is soaring. Up 45% over the past year, the cybersecurity juggernaut has become synonymous with cloud-native endpoint protection. With a five-year return exceeding 530%, it’s no wonder investors have warmed to the Falcon platform’s narrative of scalable, AI-driven defence. Yet amidst rising valuations, deep-pocketed rivals, and shifting macro tides, the real question is this: can CrowdStrike’s dominance endure, or are cracks beginning to show in the cloud armour? Soaring high—but tailwinds may yet shift the skies The $109 billion market cap tells one story. But the forward P/E of 128 and a PEG ratio north of 5 whisper another—this is a stock priced for perfection. And when you dig into the details, the picture grows

How true it is about the fickleness or over-expectations from retail traders. Palantir reported exactly, or higher, than professional analyst's projections, but the retailers were hoping for the moon. So how do we then reconcile this with Tesla where they are continuing to report dismay sales and falling margins, but yet retailers are believeing Elon Musk and hoping for, not just the moon, but the stars even. I think Palantie will recover, but Tesla is up for a big reckoning pretty soon.

Tesla demand is priority

$TSLA investors need to remember that EV fundamentals still drive TSLA’s stock price (-2.4% today vs NDX -0.7%). April Europe sales have so far been terrible and the Model Y changeover can no longer be used as an excuse. With nearly all European countries now reporting April sales, @troyteslike is predicting that April 2025 Europe sales will be -47% YoY vs April 2024. We predict that FY’25 TSLA delivs will be -6% YoY vs FY’24, vs FY’25 WS est decline of -3% YoY. The clear message is that FY’25-FY’26 consensus non-GAAP EPS ests are likely to come down further (FY’25 $2.09 today, -21% vs pre-1Q earnings release; FY’26 $3.03 today, -17% vs pre-1Q earnings release), which could further pressure TSLA’s stock.
