Palantir Produced a Receipt. Micron Still Only Has an IOU.

Good morning. Somebody got paid last night. Not the name you're thinking of.

$Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$ rose 14.25 per cent after hours on Monday. The same day, $Micron Technology(MU)$ rose 0.79 per cent and $SK hynix(SKHY)$ fell 0.70 per cent.

I ended the last piece saying $Apple(AAPL)$ had signed for the shortage and the side collecting the money hadn't. On Monday it signed. The signature doesn't belong to a memory maker.

Palantir's quarter: revenue of US$1.935 billion, up 93 per cent year on year, commercial revenue growing at around 150 per cent, adjusted earnings of US$0.41 a share. The same night Snap posted revenue of US$1.599 billion, up 19 per cent, with the net loss narrowing from US$263 million to US$164 million, and rose 7.46 per cent in the regular session. The money is turning too: Michael Burry, who made a name on the short side, has closed half of a Palantir short, while Duan Yongping, having built a position early in the year, is still writing puts on top of it. The bears and the value investors let go at the same time.

Nothing changed on the memory side, and nothing moved. The shortage is still there, the long-term contracts are still there, prices are still rising — $Micron Technology(MU)$ 0.79%, $SK hynix(SKHY)$ -0.70%. Only $SanDisk Corp.(SNDK)$ moved, up 6.03%, and that is because it reports on Wednesday.

The difference isn't who will collect. It's who already has. $Palantir Technologies Inc.(PLTR)$'s 93 per cent is a receipt. $Micron Technology(MU)$'s long-term contracts are an IOU. On Monday the market only honoured receipts.

Hold that sieve up to Monday's messy tape and it sorts itself out immediately.

The cloud vendors rose hardest, because their orders have just turned from expectations into multi-year framework contracts — half a receipt: $Amazon.com(AMZN)$ +4.58%, $Microsoft(MSFT)$ +4.93%, $Alphabet(GOOG)$ +4.44%, $Oracle(ORCL)$ +9.22%, $NEBIUS(NBIS)$ +11.64%, $CoreWeave, Inc.(CRWV)$ +19.49%. $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ managed only 2.93 per cent, trailing its sector, while the sell-side has started setting it against Micron and asking whether a bet on AI means buying Nvidia's story or Micron's contracts. The story and the IOU got filed in the same box. $Apple(AAPL)$ fell 1.78 per cent, the only mega-cap down — all it holds is the cost.

Even regulation got counted as certainty. $Meta Platforms, Inc.(META)$ rose 6.02 per cent and $Alphabet(GOOG)$ 4.44 per cent, with the White House due to meet the technology giants on AI safety testing on Tuesday, and the market bought that meeting as good news. The same headline early in the year got sold as risk.

Let me make the strongest objection for you. Monday went up because the Iran talks turned optimistic and oil fell hard, risk appetite came back across the board, and the Dow closed at a record — nothing to do with receipts or IOUs. I believe half of that. The macro did set the water level. But the macro lifts everything, and it can't explain $Apple(AAPL)$ falling 1.78 per cent and $SK hynix(SKHY)$ 0.70 per cent on a day $CoreWeave, Inc.(CRWV)$ rose 19.49 per cent. The macro gives you the level. The ordering is a separate matter. The ordering is what I'm talking about.

One box doesn't tick. $Direxion Daily Semiconductors Bull 3x Shares(SOXL)$ has just finished its worst month since 2002, while the index sits at a record, and some houses are calling it no more than a dead-cat bounce. Both are true at once, which tells you the repair is seeping backwards from the places where revenue is visible, and hasn't reached the top of the supply chain yet.

$Microsoft(MSFT)$ rose 4.93 per cent, but the question put to it on Monday changed direction: Wall Street wants management to spell out how the AI spending is accounted for and how it pays back. That isn't bearishness. That is asking for a receipt.

Only one document got skipped on Monday.

$Amazon.com(AMZN)$ rose 4.58 per cent, crossed US$3 trillion in market value for the first time, and did most of the work in taking the Dow to a record. The same day, Bezos filed to sell 15 million shares, about US$4.07 billion worth. The stock turned lower after hours.

Tonight $SpaceX(SPCX)$ delivers its first quarter as a listed company, having risen 5.68 per cent into it on Monday. But under a staged lock-up agreement, as much as roughly 911.5 million insider and employee shares are released on the second trading day after the results, a fifth of what is eligible, worth close to US$100 billion at the latest price. Earnings and share supply have been packed into 48 hours.

Outside, people are chasing money that has already landed. Inside, people are turning money that has already landed into cash.

A receipt proves the money arrived. It doesn't prove the next one is coming.

The above is personal analysis, not investment advice.

Palantir Surges 14% After Hours — Do the Bears Finally Concede?
Palantir +2.10% Monday, +14.25% after hours on revenue of $1.935B (+93% year-over-year), adjusted EPS $0.41, commercial revenue up ~150%. Snap reported the same night: revenue $1.599B (+19%), net loss narrowed from $263M to $164M, shares +7.46% intraday and +7.74% after hours. Burry has closed half his PLTR short; Duan Yongping keeps selling puts to build exposure. When the bear trims and the value buyer adds on the same name, is that AI software's earnings inflection — or just two people managing risk?
