Nvidia Says 2x Chips — Is That Enough to Keep AI Stocks Running?
One number was enough to reignite AI hardware stocks:
Jensen Huang expects Nvidia to sell twice as many chips next year as this year.
Nvidia gained 2.54% Thursday, while AMD, Marvell and Broadcom jumped even more as semiconductor stocks staged another broad rebound.
But there is an important detail behind the headline.
2x demand ≠ 2x revenue
Huang’s comment wasn’t formal revenue guidance.
Nvidia had already told investors in August that customer forecasts point to demand doubling next year. Yet management expects roughly 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028, explicitly describing that outlook as supply-constrained.
In other words:
The problem isn’t finding enough demand. It’s producing enough compute.
That may actually be the more important message for investors.
The supply chain is the test
Nvidia’s latest results showed just how large the current AI infrastructure buildout has become: Q2 revenue reached $96.2B, up 106% YoY, while Data Center revenue hit $89B, up 117%.
If customers really want twice the chip volume next year, Nvidia needs its entire supply chain to scale with it — advanced packaging, memory, networking and manufacturing capacity.
Huang has already said Nvidia is working to secure more supply, while acknowledging that current demand is substantially above what the company can supply.
So is one number enough?
Probably not by itself.
The market can rally on a powerful demand signal, but eventually investors will want to see actual shipments, revenue growth and margins catching up.
That’s where the next few earnings reports become important.
If Nvidia can convert that enormous demand into physical shipments without sacrificing margins, the “2x” comment becomes more than a headline.
If supply remains the bottleneck, the question becomes how much of that future growth is already reflected in semiconductor valuations.
The AI slowdown debate now has a very simple test:
Not “Is demand still there?”
But “Can the industry physically build enough hardware to satisfy it?”
For now, Huang’s answer appears to be: demand isn’t the constraint — supply is. $NVIDIA(NVDA)$ $T-Rex 2X Long Nvidia Daily Target ETF(NVDX)$ $T-Rex 2X Long Nvidia Daily Target ETF(NVDX)$
