On this Teacher’s Day, the first teacher who comes to mind is my secondary school Science teacher, who taught me the importance of curiosity and precision. In the world of investing, my favourite “stock teacher” would be Howard Marks—his memos are clear, disciplined, and deeply insightful. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who wants to sharpen their understanding of risk and market psychology. Teaching comes with immense responsibility and requires so much passion, and I truly appreciate all the teachers who have touched my life and my children’s. Their dedication is truly admirable. I’m still in touch with my economics teacher thanks to Facebook :) I also hope to reconnect with my Chinese teacher, who never gave up on me. My chemistry teacher was also very inspiring but he has since passed on …. Happy Teacher's Day to the people around me who believed in me, inspire me, encourage me. You are the reason why I grew to be the person I am today. Stronger, motivated, and discipline. I would like to thank the people who did not believe in me, and said that I would not make it because that certainly pushes me to be better and to prove to everyone that I am not the same person as the image you had in your head. And now, I became a Teacher myself for my full time job while I teach/inspire people on how to invest their money for the long term.

I am blessed with the fact that my first teacher, that is my mother, also has her Birthday on 5th Sep. And the lessons I learnt by observing her viz. focus, perseverance, complete faith and commitment in what we do and self-belief are invaluable in every area of my life. I have no hesitation to accept that it is following her approach that helped me succeed in the areas I succeeded in. The cause for any failures are entirely mine. The teacher who comes to mind is my mentor at work. She inspires me and provides me with much wisdom in my work. I don’t have a specific favour ‘stock teacher’ as different ‘masters’ have different strengths and have teach various topics with varying effectiveness. If I am interested in a specific topic, I will read or listen to YouTube videos on different ones to gain understanding from different perspectives. A note of thanks: to every mentor (human or book) who reminded me that patience often pays better than speed, and that protecting capital is the real test of skill. The market may hand out harsh grades, but thanks to good teachers, at least we’re better prepared for the exam.

The market is the greatest teacher because there is nothing more effective than paying your school fees to it; attending "guru" courses, reading books, watching video comes nothing near to having a loss seared into one's head. [Serious]

My biggest stock teacher was a scammer.  But thanks to him, I now spot scams faster than a cat spots a laser pointer.  He taught me everything—mostly what not to do.  So technically… he did his job. Just backwards. 😎
