The Russell 1000 tracks large-capitalization stocks—and in order to be included in the latest index reconstitution, stocks had to have market caps of at least $7.3 billion on May 7.
\n
As one of the stocks favored by retail traders this year, GameStop (ticker: GME) met that threshold because it had an $11.2 billion market cap by the deadline, while AMC Entertainment(AMC) didn’t. That said, AMC has rocketed higher since May 7, multiplying by more than five times and surpassing GameStop’s market value—hitting a recent $27 billion compared to GameStop’s $15 billion.
\n
It may seem counterintuitive, but the Russell 1000 “promotion” may actually be bad for GameStop’s stock,as Barron’s explained earlier this month.Funds that track the small-capRussell 2000will have to sell GameStop shares on June 28, and funds that track the Russell 1000 will have to buy them. Three times as much money is invested in funds that track the Russell 1000, but GameStop’s overall weight in that index will be much lower than it has been in the Russell 2000. In the Russell 2000, GameStop made up about half a percentage point of the index, while it will be less than 0.1% of the Russell 1000. GameStop will look tiny next to behemoths like Apple(AAPL).
\n
Experts like Jefferies strategist Steven DeSanctis expect that there will be net selling in GameStop of about 5 million shares, or about half of the stock’s recent average daily volume, after the rebalancing.
\n
Meanwhile, AMC will be the largest member of the Russell 2000 by far—more than three times as large as its nearest competitor as of last week. Happened:According to the latest report fromCoinShares, institutional investors withdrew $141 million fromBitcoin(CRYPTO: BTC) funds over the past week.Meanwhile,Ethereum(CRYPTO: ETH) remained “the altcoin of choice” for investors as inflows into Ethereum investment products totaled $33 million over the past week.CoinShares noted that the negative sentiment was focused on Bitcoin, as this week marked the largest single week of outflows in its history.“Digital asset investment product trading volumes highlight investors remain cautious in Bitcoin with weekly volumes having fallen 62% compared to last month. This has also been reflected in the broader Bitcoin ecosystem where volumes on trusted exchanges have fallen 50%,” said CoinShares in the report.The drop in institutional interest in Europe and North America, where the majority of CoinShares tracked funds are based, seems to be in line with institutional sentiment in Asia as well.AGoldman Sachs Group Inc(NYSE:GS)survey, which polled 25 chief investment officers from different hedge funds in Asia, revealed that Bitcoin was the “least favored” asset class.“We held two CIO roundtable sessions earlier this week, which were attended by 25 CIOs from various long-only and hedge funds,” wrote Goldman Sachs strategist Timothy Moe.“Their most favorite is Growth style but least favorite on Bitcoin.”At press time, Bitcoin was trading at $32,846 after falling over over 9% overnight.The leading cryptocurrency saw a 65% uptick in trading volume over the past 24-hours, which stood at $48.5 billion at the time of writing.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GBTC":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1843,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":128132001,"gmtCreate":1624505139103,"gmtModify":1703838661670,"author":{"id":"3585503780881856","authorId":"3585503780881856","name":"Harrylhp","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f82a7044ab1406d742343a13e00929f0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585503780881856","idStr":"3585503780881856"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice The Russell 1000 tracks large-capitalization stocks—and in order to be included in the latest index reconstitution, stocks had to have market caps of at least $7.3 billion on May 7.
\n
Meanwhile, AMC will be the largest member of the Russell 2000 by far—more than three times as large as its nearest competitor as of last week. Happened:According to the latest report fromCoinShares, institutional investors withdrew $141 million fromBitcoin(CRYPTO: BTC) funds over the past week.Meanwhile,Ethereum(CRYPTO: ETH) remained “the altcoin of choice” for investors as inflows into Ethereum investment products totaled $33 million over the past week.CoinShares noted that the negative sentiment was focused on Bitcoin, as this week marked the largest single week of outflows in its history.“Digital asset investment product trading volumes highlight investors remain cautious in Bitcoin with weekly volumes having fallen 62% compared to last month. This has also been reflected in the broader Bitcoin ecosystem where volumes on trusted exchanges have fallen 50%,” said CoinShares in the report.The drop in institutional interest in Europe and North America, where the majority of CoinShares tracked funds are based, seems to be in line with institutional sentiment in Asia as well.AGoldman Sachs Group Inc(NYSE:GS)survey, which polled 25 chief investment officers from different hedge funds in Asia, revealed that Bitcoin was the “least favored” asset class.“We held two CIO roundtable sessions earlier this week, which were attended by 25 CIOs from various long-only and hedge funds,” wrote Goldman Sachs strategist Timothy Moe.“Their most favorite is Growth style but least favorite on Bitcoin.”At press time, Bitcoin was trading at $32,846 after falling over over 9% overnight.The leading cryptocurrency saw a 65% uptick in trading volume over the past 24-hours, which stood at $48.5 billion at the time of writing.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"GBTC":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1843,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":180557380,"gmtCreate":1623214699340,"gmtModify":1704198529323,"author":{"id":"3585503780881856","authorId":"3585503780881856","name":"Harrylhp","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f82a7044ab1406d742343a13e00929f0","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3585503780881856","idStr":"3585503780881856"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Nice thing","listText":"Nice thing","text":"Nice thing","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/180557380","repostId":"2142299270","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":1976,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"lives":[]}
