Stock Track | Global X Copper Miners ETF Soars 8.37% Intraday as Copper Prices Hit Record Highs on Weaker Dollar and AI Demand

Stock Track01-29

The Global X Copper Miners ETF (COPX) surged 8.37% during intraday trading on Thursday, reflecting a powerful rally across the copper mining sector.

This sharp upward move is directly driven by copper prices scaling fresh all-time highs, with the London Metal Exchange benchmark breaking through the $14,000 per metric ton level. The rally in the underlying commodity is fueled by a combination of a weaker U.S. dollar, which enhances the appeal of dollar-denominated metals, and robust investor appetite for physical assets amid geopolitical and fiscal uncertainties.

Furthermore, analysts highlight strong structural demand from the global artificial intelligence revolution, accelerated adoption of electric vehicles, expansion of renewable energy infrastructure, and increased defense spending—all of which are highly copper-intensive. Supply-side concerns, including past mine disruptions and potential U.S. tariff policies, have also contributed to a perceived scarcity premium. Major financial institutions have raised their copper price forecasts accordingly, lifting profit expectations for mining companies and propelling the ETF higher.
