While gigawatt-scale data center goals remain unachieved, Musk has already begun discussing terawatt-scale data centers, highlighting the American tech mogul's ambitious vision for artificial intelligence infrastructure.
An X user posted: "xAI currently has 460 megawatts of natural gas turbine capacity installed and operational or under construction... xAI will be the first company to reach 1,000 megawatts (1 gigawatt) at a single data center site."
Musk responded: "1 gigawatt is still small potatoes. For continuous 100 gigawatt power levels (approximately one-fifth of average US electricity consumption), it would likely require solar/battery power. Above 1 terawatt (1,000 gigawatts), solar/battery is the only realistic option."
