Tencent Holdings Ltd. is gearing up to introduce an artificial intelligence assistant for its business-focused communication application, escalating the fierce competition among China's leading technology firms to secure user loyalty within their digital environments in the current AI landscape.
Shares of Tencent jumped 3.28% in Hong Kong market.
The assistant, known as Dayuan, has started a limited release to certain users on WeCom, the corporate iteration of the WeChat super app. This information was shared in an online announcement. Dayuan is powered by the most recent V4 model from DeepSeek and is designed to understand and respond to user queries in conversational language.
Tencent aims to set Dayuan apart from other AI productivity tools by utilizing the extensive data repository already present within WeCom. The agent can examine a company's internal chat histories, emails, and schedule information to aid in evaluating customer responses and managing client interactions. It is also capable of handling routine duties, such as creating daily market summaries or preparing weekly reports, as illustrated in a shared image.
WeChat, a central component of Tencent's digital empire, is moving towards incorporating AI-driven agents into its services. This initiative is part of Tencent's broader effort to keep pace with competitors like Alibaba Group Holding Ltd and ByteDance Ltd in terms of AI adoption and advanced language model technology. The main WeChat app for consumers is also evaluating a similar assistant to help users automate everyday activities, reflecting functionalities already offered by rivals.
In China's competitive workplace software sector, WeCom faces off against applications such as Alibaba's DingTalk and ByteDance's Lark. These platforms also act as gateways for their associated cloud computing services, which are seeing increased usage due to AI-related demand from businesses and developers. WeCom's key strategic advantage is its seamless connection to WeChat's massive consumer network, a benefit that Tencent holds over its main competitors.
