U.S. Futures, European Stocks Rise

U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.3% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 0.2%. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.

In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.4% in morning trading. BP PLC rose 7.1% and Drax Group rose 4%. On the other hand, Gaztransport et Technigaz dropped 5.6%, and Rockwool Series B fell 4.3%. The FTSE 100 added 0.3%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France's CAC 40 increased 0.3% and Germany's DAX climbed 0.3%.

The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.2% to 102.22.

In commodities, Brent crude gained 0.8% to $75.26 a barrel, and WTI crude climbed 0.8% to $71.57 a barrel. The European benchmark price for natural gas, the Dutch futures contract TTF, was up 4.4% to 58.18 euros a megawatt hour.

The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 1 basis point to 2.386% from 2.375%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 1 basis point to 4.505% from 4.496%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.

Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan's Nikkei 225 index was flat, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 1.8%. China's benchmark Shanghai Composite climbed 0.6%.
