The Israeli military said Friday morning local time that it had completed a large-scale strike against Iran's air-defense system as part of its wide-ranging operation to target Iran's nuclear program.
Israeli fighter jets, guided by intelligence, destroyed dozens of radars and surface-to-air missile launchers in western Iran, the military said. The strikes give the Israeli military greater freedom of operation, it added.
Israel also carried out strikes against ballistic missiles in Iran, according to an Israeli military official, who said it was able to destroy some.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israelis that the strikes against Iran would continue for "as many days as it takes."
Iran retaliated to Israel's attacks on its defenses and nuclear facilities Friday by sending 100 drones toward Israel. Jordan and Israel both said they had shot down drones. Israel briefly instructed citizens to take shelter, but then almost immediately retracted the instructions and said residents didn't need to remain near a shelter.
