Threat Of Tariffs Remains Despite Deadline Extension -- Market Talk

Dow Jones07-08

0936 GMT - U.S. President Trump extended the deadline for higher tariffs from 9 July to August 1, but the threat of higher tariffs remains, Julius Baer's David Kohl says in a note. This complicates U.S. investment intentions and increases uncertainty about higher U.S. inflation, the chief economist says. The threat of higher tariffs intensifies stagflationary risks in the U.S. and puts pressure on Europe to stimulate domestic demand further in order to offset headwinds in international trade, he says.
