Crypto Expected to Be Volatile, Weaker Amid Risk-Off Tone -- Market Talk
Dow Jones03-02 09:21
0121 GMT - Cryptocurrency could face near-term weakness should a risk-off tone across global markets continue to drive investors out of assets like equities, says MHC Digital Group's Edward Carroll. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, initially fell sharply Saturday before paring losses and stabilizing Sunday. "There is always a debate about whether Bitcoin behaves more like digital gold or a high-beta risk asset," says Carroll. "In moments like this, it has tended to behave more like the latter." Carroll expects volatility to be heightened while investors assess how the situation in the Middle East might unfold. (rhiannon.hoyle@wsj.com; @RhiannonHoyle)
