Sterling Rises After Trump Suggests Middle East Conflict Could Soon End -- Market Talk

Dow Jones03-10 15:55

0755 GMT - Sterling rises to a one-month high against the euro and a one-week high versus the dollar as market sentiment improves after President Trump said the Iran war could end soon. Oil prices retreat, easing concerns about a severe inflation shock, Wealth Club strategist Susannah Streeter says in a note. "Even so, policymakers at the Bank of England are set to stay in wait-and-see mode and keep rates on hold for many months until the full repercussions for consumer prices become clear." Markets see little chance of a BOE rate cut this year, having priced in two rate cuts before the war, LSEG data show. The euro falls to a low of 0.8640 pounds. Sterling rises to a high of $1.3478.
