Singapore's Inflation Expected to Significantly Accelerate in Coming Months -- Market Talk
Dow Jones03-24
0219 GMT - Singapore's inflation is expected to significantly accelerate in the coming months, Maybank economists write in a research report. Global energy prices have been pushed higher, since the Middle East conflict began at the end of February. The energy component, which includes transport fuel and utilities, accounts for 3.8% of Singapore's CPI basket. "The transmission of the war shock to prices is at a nascent stage," the economists say. Consumers will eventually pay for higher prices, as businesses are squeezed by rising transport, freight, delivery and electricity costs.(amanda.lee@wsj.com)
