U.S. Ethanol Inventories Hit Highest Level in a Year

Inventories of ethanol in the U.S. have continued to build up as average daily production stays at historically high levels, according to data from the Energy Information Administration.

In its weekly report, the EIA said that U.S. ethanol inventories for the week ended March 20 totaled 27.17 million barrels. That's the highest stocks level reported by the agency since March of last year, and an uptick of 763,000 barrels from the prior week.

Average daily ethanol production also rose, jumping back over the 1.1 million barrels a day mark that is historically high but has become more normal in 2026. Average production was 1.116 million barrels a day, up 23,000 barrels from the prior week. It's the highest the rate of production has been in this week of the year, the Hightower Report said in a note Wednesday.

Most-active CBOT corn futures are up 0.1% in morning trade, with a 4% slide in light crude oil futures pressuring the contractm as analysts eagerly await the release of the USDA's Prospective Planting report next week.
