Dell extended its recent gains and jumped over 10% in Monday’s market trading, after unveiling a new laptop to take on Apple’s latest hardware.
Dell unveiled the XPS 13 laptop on Sunday. It is priced at $699 but discounted to $599 for students during the "back-to-school season."
That makes it a direct competitor to Apple's MacBook Neo, the iPhone maker's laptop which it launched in March with a price of $599, or $499 for students. The relatively low price for Apple hardware was taken by analysts to be a grab for market share as the soaring cost of memory components drives up prices elsewhere in the market.
However, Dell is fighting back.
"XPS 13 arrives at its most accessible price ever, contending with the MacBook Neo on price, and exceeding it on features," Dell said in a blog.
That was set to add to a 33% gain on Friday, after the company's earnings impressed the market, mostly due to the growth of artificial-intelligence servers. Apple shares pointed 0.5% lower at $310.52.
