President Donald Trump announced on August 18 that he is nominating Richard Bennett to serve as a Judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Bennett has dedicated his career to public service, working as a County Prosecutor, Assistant United States Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel of ICE, and currently as a Magistrate Judge on the Southern District of Texas. He is a graduate of Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University School of Law, and clerked for Judge Marcia Crone.
In his statement, Trump praised Bennett as "a true warrior for Public Safety, Border Security, and our Constitution" and said he "will deliver strong results in his new role." The President noted that Texas is a state he loves and won by the biggest vote total in its history, all three times.
