Economic growth must translate into better living standards for all citizens, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said on Sunday said while pledging to tackle cost-of-living pressures, improve job opportunities and strengthen support across life stages.
Speaking at the People's Action Party's Awards and Conference 2026, Wong said the government would address workers' concerns and provide greater support to Singaporeans facing setbacks, according to a party statement.
Wong said the country was navigating an increasingly challenging global environment but said the government must look beyond headline economic figures to ensure that growth benefits citizens.
He also warned against populism and simplistic policy solutions, stressing the need to balance competing interests and consider long-term consequences in areas including housing and foreign manpower.
