Not only was its stock crushed, but it also announced layoffs at its Tudum division, which it just launched in December. It also said it would crackdown on password sharing and put ads in a new, lower-priced subscription tier. All this is generating talk of the streaming service becoming a takeover target.It was a sea change in how people view Netflix's position in the streaming market, but with Warner Bros. Discovery pulling the plug on its ill-advised CNN+ service less than a month after it launched, Alphabet's YouTube seeing a slowdown in ad revenue, and surveys showing fewer consumers subscribing to at least one service, it may be time investors in Amazon.com (AMZN 0.18%) and Disney (DIS 1.68%) consider whether they need to be worried, too.Streaming fatigue may have finally arrived, and we may see consolidation occur.Image source: Getty Images.An industry wake-up callAlthough the company's revenue rose 10% in the first quarter to nearly $8 billion, that was about half the growth rate of 2021. In addition, profits dropped to $1.6 billion from $1.71 billion in the year-ago quarter.Netflix's most jarring number was its loss of 200,000 subscribers for the quarter, the first decline since 2011. This was especially dismal because Netflix had forecast it would have between 2.5 million and 4 million net additions, so investors were blindsided by the drop to 221.64 million worldwide subscribers. It didn't help, either, that Netflix expects the carnage to continue in the second quarter, with a potential loss of as many as 2 million subscribers.Netflix is still seeing growth in viewing time, according to Nieslen data, as the chart below shows. But with inflation soaring to levels not seen in 40 years, maintaining a subscription is no longer a priority for consumers.Streaming ServiceMay 2021February 2022Netflix6%6.4%YouTube6%5.7%Hulu3%3%Amazon Prime2%2.3%Disney1%1.7%Other SVOD8%9.5%Total SVOD26%28.6%Data source: Nielsen, as provided by Netflix. Table by author.The good, the bad, and the uglyThat was the big hurdle that CNN+ had to get over. People weren't watching the free version of CNN (prime-time viewership collapsed 70% in the key 25- to 54-year-old demographic in February), so it's hard to imagine people paying for CNN+. And with just 10,000 subscribers at the launch, Warner Bros. was merciful in killing it off quickly.But what about Amazon and Disney? Fortunately, it seems they have more to offer viewers than Netflix.No one is paying Amazon $139 a year primarily for its Prime movies. They're signing up for free shipping on its e-commerce site and getting movies, music, books, and a few other services thrown into the mix. Its movie catalog is no less (or more) watchable than Netflix's, but it's just a side benefit of the shopping app and not the main motivator for signing up.Disney, on the other hand, brings several benefits to the table. Not only are you buying into the brand, but it comes with an extensive catalog of top-notch classic and current movies and a very affordable price tag ($8 a month).But it has yet to consistently offer good current original-streaming programming and is also planning on introducing ads into the mix, suggesting its aggressive growth goals may not be as attainable as originally believed. Still, the service is likely a keeper for most subscribers.Image source: Getty Images.Reattaching the cableWhile it was expected the streaming wars would devolve into consumers willingly paying for just two or three services and discarding the rest, cutting the cord with cable was supposed to be about more choice at lower cost. It's gotten to the point where putting together your own package of streaming services is almost as expensive as cable.It was poor timing for Netflix to raise its subscription prices, even if necessary, and the addition of ads may only cannibalize the main service. While Netflix will surely remain a leading choice for many, Amazon and Disney don't seem to have much to worry about, either, though the days of eye-popping subscriber additions may be in the rearview mirror for them, as well.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMZN":1,"NFLX":1,"QNETCN":0.6,"DIS":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2432,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9069198908,"gmtCreate":1651244510217,"gmtModify":1676534877475,"author":{"id":"3572988793196593","authorId":"3572988793196593","name":"Foxie","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572988793196593","authorIdStr":"3572988793196593"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9069198908","repostId":"2231402215","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2231402215","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1651237548,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2231402215?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-29 21:05","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Warren Buffett Has Bet the Farm On These 3 Stocks","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2231402215","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"The Oracle of Omaha has put nearly $104 billion, combined, into these three companies.","content":"<div>\n<p>Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett is arguably the greatest investor of our generation. Since taking the reins as CEO in 1965, the Oracle of Omaha, as he's now known, has created over $740 billion in value for shareholders (himself included), and delivered an aggregate return for the company's Class A shares (BRK.A) of 4,100,820%, as of April 25, 2022.There's no shortage of reasons for Buffett's success over the years. For instance, Buffett has an affinity for cyclical companies and dividend stocks, and has been willing to buy and hold high-quality businesses for decades to allow his investment thesis to shine.However, Berkshire Hathaway's success also has to do with Buffett's lack of diversification. Despite his company holding stakes in nearly four dozen securities, Buffett has bet the farm on the following three stocks.Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett. Image source: The Motley Fool.AppleWhen it comes to betting the farm on a top-performing business, tech stock Apple checked all the appropriate boxes for Warren Buffett and his investment team.Apple accounts for more than 30% of the $104.6 billion cost basis of Berkshire's investment portfolio, and totaled nearly 44% of Berkshire's $339 billion in invested assets, as of April 25. On an unrealized basis, Buffett's company is sitting on a greater than $116 billion gain from its stake in Apple. It's also worth mentioning that Apple generates close to $799 million in dividend income for Berkshire Hathaway each year.In Warren Buffett's eyes, there's little not to like about Apple. The company has an extremely loyal customer base, is one of the most recognized brands in the world, and is the hands-down leader in smartphone market share in the United States. In fact, the launch of 5G-capable iPhones sent Apple's sales and profits to record highs.In addition to its success with tech products, Apple CEO Tim Cook is overseeing the promotion of subscription services. A subscription-driven model should alleviate the revenue lumpiness associated with product replacement cycles, and it has a good shot at lifting Apple's operating margins over time.Furthermore, Apple has spared no expense with its generous capital return program. For some context, Apple returned $100 billion to shareholders just in fiscal 2021 (the company's fiscal year ends in September). It repurchased $86 billion in common stock, and returned more than $14 billion to its investors as a dividend. The Oracle of Omaha is a huge fan of businesses that reward patient investors.Image source: Getty Images.Bank of AmericaA second stock Warren Buffett has bet the proverbial farm on is money-center giant Bank of America.According to Buffett's 2021 letter to shareholders, Berkshire Hathaway had spent over $10 billion on just two securities: The aforementioned Apple, with a $31.1 billion cost basis, and Bank of America, with a $14.6 billion cost basis. As of April 25, BofA accounted for 11.4% of Berkshire's portfolio value, with Buffett and his investing team sitting on an unrealized gain of almost $24 billion.The Oracle of Omaha is a huge fan of bank stocks, most likely because they're highly cyclical businesses. Buffett is well aware that recessions are a perfectly normal and inevitable part of the economic cycle. But he also knows that recessions only last for a few months to a couple of quarters. By comparison, the vast majority of economic expansions go on for years. Buying bank stocks like BofA is Buffett's way of playing a numbers game that strongly favors patient investors.Another reason to be optimistic about Bank of America's future is its interest rate sensitivity. With the Federal Reserve looking to rein in historically high inflation with interest rate hikes, Bank of America is set to be a big beneficiary. According to the company, a 100-basis-point parallel shift in the interest rate yield curve is estimated to generate $5.4 billion in added net interest income over 12 months.Bank of America's digitization efforts are paying off, too. The percentage of sales completed online or via mobile app hit 53% in the latest quarter, which was up from just 30% in the comparable quarter three years ago. Greater digital adoption is allowing BofA to consolidate some of its branches and improve its operating efficiency.Image source: Getty Images.Berkshire HathawayThe third stock Buffett has bet the farm on isn't going to show up in the company's quarterly 13F filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That's because it's Buffett's own company, Berkshire Hathaway.Prior to July 2018, Buffett and his right-hand man, Charlie Munger, were only allowed to repurchase shares of Berkshire Hathaway if its price-to-book value fell to or below 120% (20% or lower premium to book value). But in the six years leading up to July 2018, Berkshire's stock fairly consistently stayed range-bound between 130% and 160% of book value, leading to no share repurchases.But things changed on July 17, 2018. Berkshire's board of directors passed new measures that gave Buffett and Munger the ability to repurchase their company's stock. As long as Berkshire has at least $20 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and U.S. Treasuries on hand, and the duo believe their company's shares are trading below intrinsic value, buybacks can commence without any cap. Since the midpoint of 2018, Buffett has overseen the repurchase of $58 billion worth of Berkshire's Class A and B shares.Why repurchase so much stock? The primary answer is that it tends to have a positive effect on each remaining share. Since there are fewer shares left outstanding, businesses that grow their income over time can expect an earnings per share boost from repurchasing stock. This can make Berkshire Hathaway even more attractive from a fundamental standpoint and further lift its share price.With Berkshire's Class A shares averaging a 20.1% annual return since 1965, buying back stock looks like a smart bet for the Oracle of Omaha and his shareholders.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"BAC":0.9,"ORCL":0.9,"AAPL":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2829,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9084595236,"gmtCreate":1650887216955,"gmtModify":1676534809008,"author":{"id":"3572988793196593","authorId":"3572988793196593","name":"Foxie","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572988793196593","authorIdStr":"3572988793196593"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"That was fast ","listText":"That was fast ","text":"That was fast","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9084595236","repostId":"2230862149","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2340,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9085504892,"gmtCreate":1650722495400,"gmtModify":1676534782317,"author":{"id":"3572988793196593","authorId":"3572988793196593","name":"Foxie","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572988793196593","authorIdStr":"3572988793196593"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Yes","listText":"Yes","text":"Yes","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9085504892","repostId":"2229161504","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2229161504","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1650678520,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2229161504?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-23 09:48","market":"us","language":"en","title":"PayPal Stock Is Under the Microscope Ahead of Earnings; Here’s What to Expect","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2229161504","media":"TipRanks","summary":"In just a little under a week from now -- Wednesday, April 27, after close of trading -- fintech gia","content":"<div>\n<p>In just a little under a week from now -- Wednesday, April 27, after close of trading -- fintech giant PayPal (PYPL) is due to report its Q1 2022 earnings. And if you were around to see how the market reacted the last time PayPal reported earnings, that probably has you feeling just the teensiest bit nervous (Hint: The last time PayPal reported earnings, its stock crashed 25% in a day).Ahead of the print, RBC analyst Daniel Perlin keeps his Outperform (i.e. Buy) rating intact, but lowers his price target from $180 to $118. Not to worry, there's still upside of 36% from current levels. Perlin is not quite so optimistic about what PayPal will report for Q1 2022, as the rest of Wall Street seems to be. Street estimates have PayPal reporting $6.4 billion for the quarter -- 6% year-over-year growth -- versus Perlin's prediction of $6.3 billion in revenue (5% growth). At the same time, Perlin believes the Street is unfortunately correct about what PayPal will report for earnings -- $0.87 per share, a 29% decline year over year.Moreover, given trends in consumer spending of late -- a shift away from buying goods, which can often be paid for via PayPal, to buying services, for which PayPal is less often used; a less pandemic-bound economy in which more purchases are made in stores (where again, PayPal usage is a rarity); and also a high-inflation world which discourages frivolous purchases of \"discretionary\" goods (another PayPal forte) -- Perlin expects PayPal guide to lower on the rest of this year when it reports earnings next week.Previously, PayPal had guided investors to expect something on the order of 15% to 17% revenue growth in 2022. Next week, Perlin says investors should expect new guidance to \"tilt to the low-end\" of that range.What does that mean in dollars and cents? According to the analyst, after PayPal misses on sales next week, it's likely to continue missing all year long. Perlin is penciling in $28.6 billion in sales for this year, versus a Wall Street consensus of $29.3 billion. Similarly, fiscal year 2023 sales will probably come up short -- only $33.6 billion instead of the Street's forecast $35 billion.Likewise with earnings. Perlin has PayPal pegged for $4.53 per share in 2022 profits, and only $5.64 per share in 2023. That's as compared to Street expectations of $4.63 and $5.78, respectively.Granted, when push comes to shove, Perlin still thinks PayPal stock is \"cheap\" at just 16 times his predicted profits for fiscal 2023. That’s welcome news to investors who bought shares prior to the selloff that started in September. At that time, MRNA stock was trading above $450 per share. However, for many reasons, Moderna is not likely to move significantly higher anytime soon. For that reason, investors should be careful about investing in the long term.Let’s start with the good news. Moderna is projected to generate $21 billion in revenue from its Covid-19 vaccine. That number could go higher, but let’s just stick with that for now.That’s a 13% increase from its 2021 revenue. Double-digit growth is always appreciated. However, it’s a far cry from the growth experienced between 2020 and 2021. That’s to be expected. Nevertheless, it’s likely Moderna will generate lower earnings, which is almost always a drag on a stock price.The company is a leader in mRNA technology, and it does have a couple of other products that are in late-stage clinical trials. But this time around, the biotech giant won’t have Operation Warp Speed serving as a catalyst to get rapid approval. That means it’s likely to be late 2023 and possibly 2024 before a new product works its way through the process.And Moderna does have a robust pipeline of other drugs and therapeutics in its pipeline. These could bring in billions in revenue, but not for several years. And getting them approved will take time and money. Currently Moderna’s research and development (R&D) expenses total about $2 billion annually, but the cost to earnings remains to be seen.In the meantime, other biotech companies that use mRNA technology are likely to put drug candidates into clinical trials. And that makes sense because, according to Vantage Research, the global revenue for mRNA cancer vaccines and therapeutics is expected to be more than $100 billion by 2028. And if Moderna gets other products approved before its competitors, it may have time to pad its lead.But that’s not a guarantee. For this reason, I see MRNA stock as making some sense as a short-term trade, but I would be hesitant to take a long-term position in the stock.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"MRNA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2090,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9015308742,"gmtCreate":1649422371357,"gmtModify":1676534509269,"author":{"id":"3572988793196593","authorId":"3572988793196593","name":"Foxie","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3572988793196593","authorIdStr":"3572988793196593"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Can. In the past two weeks, AMC stock has more than doubled, including a 45% single-day jump Monday. It’s important to note that the recent rally is not because of fundamental strength, but rather because Reddit investors are actively trading the stock once again.That is not to say the company hasn’t made some interesting moves recently. For instance, it invested in embattled gold and silver miner Hycroft Mining (NASDAQ:HYMC), which is also a Reddit favorite. And today’s blastoff followed a Reuters interview in which Chief Executive Adam Aron said investors should expect more “transformational” deals in the company’s future.Meanwhile, a slate of superhero blockbusters has saved the day for AMC. However, barring a few tentpole releases, there is not much to see regarding box office numbers, and the company’s core business interests remain under pressure.Reddit Gives Thumbs Up to Hycroft Mining PurchaseReddit seems to approve of AMC’s foray into the precious metals market. For many analysts, though, the investment in struggling Hycroft Mining is a headscratcher. Management seems to believe they have become experts at navigating troubled waters and coming out on the other side leaner and stronger. However, their credentials are dubious.Yes, the company is in a much better position than it was just a couple of years ago. However, this has little to do with fundamental strength. Instead, you can thank AMC’s fans on Reddit for helping it stave off bankruptcy. The same fans believe that AMC’s investment in a mining company makes sound financial sense since gold is a tried-and-tested store of value.Interestingly, after the great escape, the company has launched several initiatives, the most fascinating of which have to be allowing cryptocurrency purchases and offering NFTs. However, its core business continues to struggle. As entertainment companies engage in streaming wars and fight for attention, there will be little to motivate the casual viewer to check out the latest releases in theaters outside perhaps the odd summer blockbuster.Selling branded popcorn could become a great revenue stream. However, it cannot take the place of the movie theater business for AMC.AMC Needs to Revamp Its BusinessThe story of Nokia (NYSE:NOK) is a cautionary tale told in business classes worldwide. The company was the biggest cell phone manufacturer globally before being overtaken by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL). Nokia’s downfall came from its inability to keep up with competitors like Apple, which were making better products. Nokia also made the mistake of only focusing on one type of phone instead of differentiating its product lineup.However, there should be another chapter in the works because Nokia is now a growing 5G enterprise with healthy financials.AMC will need to similarly change its operations by offering a more immersive experience. This will require a lot of experimentation, but eventually could be successful.Blockbuster releases likeSpider-Man: No Way Homeare becoming rare in the post-pandemic era, and AMC needs to account for this.Launching a digital coin and investing in virtual reality could be catalysts for future growth. Imagine watching a great art movie with friends in an amazing AMC theater from the comfort of your home in the metaverse. AMC might struggle to get people into a movie theatre for a movie like The Last Duel, but in a VR setting, perhaps consumers will be willing to give it a try.AMC Stock Is Still Too VolatileToday’s action in AMC stock likely had more than a little to do with short-sellers covering, as the percentage of shares held short is around 20% of the float. Traders certainly can’t rule out another short squeeze in the stock’s future, but they also can’t rule out a sharp sell-off.Reddit adds another dimension of volatility to stocks like AMC. Because retail investors own a majority of the shares, sentiment on Reddit will continue to be more important than sentiment on Wall Street. Therefore, normal market moves are not the norm in AMC stock.With uncertainty so high, unless you are risk-tolerant, there are few incentives to invest in AMC stock.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMC":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2199,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"posts","isTTM":true}
