of fixed income assets.

The invasion comes as global equity markets were already reeling because of decades-high inflation stemming from the pandemic.

The S&P 500 was down 2.5%, as the benchmark plunged further into correction territory. The index closed Wednesday 12% off its record high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 810 points, or 2.4%. The blue-chip measure closed Wednesday more than 10% off its record. The Nasdaq Composite declined 3%. The Nasdaq Composite is teetering on bear market territory, down just less than 20% from its high through Wednesday’s close.

Moscow launched the military action in Ukraineovernight Thursday. There were reports of explosions and missile strikes on several key Ukrainian cities including its capital, Kyiv. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the invasion “the demilitarization” of Ukraine and said Russia’s plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories.

NATO, the most powerful military alliance in the world, is set to reinforce its presence on its eastern front following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. President Joe Biden condemned the attack, saying in a statement that “the world hold Russia accountable.”

“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way,” Biden said.

The Russia invasion “is really worse than a baseline expectation that we had or the markets had. I would argue we are talking basically another 5% to 6% down which would put us close to 20% or bear market territory,” said Binky Chadha, chief U.S. equity and global strategist at Deutsche Bank,” on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” Thursday.

Global oil benchmark Brent jumped 7.7% to $104.56per barrel, passing the $100 level for the first time since 2014. Natural gas pricessurged5%.

Treasury prices increased and yields tumbled, with the benchmark 10-year note rate declining to 1.86% as investors sought safe-haven bonds. The move reversed a ramp in yields that took the 10-year well above 2% earlier in the session. Gold futures increased 3.2% to $1,970 an ounce as investors sought other safe havens. TheCboe Volatility index, a gauge of Wall Street fear, spiked to above the 37 level on Thursday, near hits highest levels of the year.

European stocks sold off sharply on Thursday after Russia began an attack on Ukraine, tipping a longstanding diplomatic crisis into a military conflict. The pan-European Stoxx 600 dropped 3.6% to its lowest point of the year.

The VanEck Russia ETF, a U.S.-traded security which invests in top Russian companies, dropped nearly 25% in premarket trading on Thursday.

“The worst-case scenario of Russia invading Ukraine beyond the separatist regions is a shock to the equity and oil markets. The fallout could have sizeable negative impact on the European economy which would then dampen US activity modestly,” said Kathy Bostjancic, chief U.S. economist at Oxford Economics. “In the face of such uncertainty and negative economic fallout, the Fed is likely to raise the policy rate just 25bps in March, but it will still move forward.”

It was a broad sell-off with investors selling shares en masse. Apple was down 4% in premarket trading. Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase lost more than 3% each. Tesla was 7% lower in early trading.

Among the few stocks in the green were energy and defense stocks. Devon Energy was up 5% and Chevron rose 4.2% in premarket trading. Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies gained 2% apiece.

Bitcoinwas getting hammered, most recently down 6.5%to $35,207.50 as investors shed risk.

“Investors should expect strong sanctions imposed on Russia, which will slow growth and leave upward pressure on commodity prices,” wrote Dennis DeBusschere of 22V Research. “How long this crisis takes to unfold will determine how much inflation, financial conditions, and growth will be impacted. Short-term, a flight to safety means Treasury yields, rate hike expectations and risk assets are sharply lower.”

The Ukraine situation has added to tensions for the market, which had been worried about tighter Federal Reserve policy amid escalating inflation. Traders have adjusted their views on the Fed in recent days, with the likelihood of a 0.5 percentage point interest rate hike in March down to 17%, according to CME Group data.

Wednesday marked another downbeat market session on Wall Street, as traders grappled with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In the Wednesday session, the Dow dropped about 464 points, or 1.3%, and closed at its lowest level of 2022 so far. Tesla was 7% lower in early trading.Among the few stocks in the green were energy and defense stocks. Devon Energy was up 5% and Chevron rose 4.2% in premarket trading. Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies gained 2% apiece.Bitcoinwas getting hammered, most recently down 6.5%to $35,207.50 as investors shed risk.“Investors should expect strong sanctions imposed on Russia, which will slow growth and leave upward pressure on commodity prices,” wrote Dennis DeBusschere of 22V Research. “How long this crisis takes to unfold will determine how much inflation, financial conditions, and growth will be impacted. Short-term, a flight to safety means Treasury yields, rate hike expectations and risk assets are sharply lower.”The Ukraine situation has added to tensions for the market, which had been worried about tighter Federal Reserve policy amid escalating inflation. Traders have adjusted their views on the Fed in recent days, with the likelihood of a 0.5 percentage point interest rate hike in March down to 17%, according to CME Group data.Wednesday marked another downbeat market session on Wall Street, as traders grappled with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. In the Wednesday session, the Dow dropped about 464 points, or 1.3%, and closed at its lowest level of 2022 so far. The S&P 500 fell 1.8%, moving deeper into correction and ending the day about 12% from its Jan. 3 record close. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite lost 2.6% and now sits close to bear market territory.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{".IXIC":0.9,".DJI":0.9,".SPX":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2487,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9030347276,"gmtCreate":1645656732046,"gmtModify":1676534048862,"author":{"id":"3586474193512687","authorId":"3586474193512687","name":"Aaronboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/875e45a6d6b604dfaa34ac175ccbbb29","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586474193512687","idStr":"3586474193512687"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9030347276","repostId":"1148229912","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1148229912","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1645628200,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1148229912?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-23 22:56","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Oil Stocks Jumped In Morning Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1148229912","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Marathon, Western Oil, ConocoPhillips, Halliburton and Chevron climbed between 1% and 4%.","content":"

Marathon, Western Oil, ConocoPhillips, Halliburton and Chevron climbed between 1% and 4%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; For the full year, the online retail giant generated $24.9 billion in operating income, up $2 billion from the year before.Management is guiding for first-quarter operating income of between $3 billion and $6 billion, which would be a considerable decline from the $8.9 billion it generated in the first quarter last year. However, I'm optimistic operating margins will actually expand for the full year. Here are five reasons why.1. Lower depreciation expenseAmazon is making a big accounting change for AWS: It's increasing the useful life for servers from four years to five years and network equipment from five years to six years. As a result, it will lower its depreciation expense in the first quarter by $1 billion. The impact in future quarters won't be as significant, but it's still a lot of money that's moving to its bottom line. While depreciation expense isn't a cash expense that will have an immediate impact on Amazon's cash flow, it's worth pointing out that this is a real cost savings. The change is a result of Amazon's engineers working to make its operations more efficient and extend the life of its equipment. Over time, that means a greater return on assets for AWS.That said, management continues to invest heavily in the fastest-growing segment of its business. It spent over $20 billion in capital expenditures related to AWS infrastructure in 2021 and expects to spend even more in 2022.2. A couple of important price increasesThe big news from Amazon's fourth-quarter report was the inclusion of a price hike for Amazon Prime. The annual subscription price in the U.S. will climb $20, and the monthly price will go up by $2. All told, that could add about $1.6 billion in annual revenue, based on an estimated 80 million U.S. households subscribed to the service. And since Amazon has already made the investments to justify the price increase, that's practically all going to flow to the bottom line.Similarly, Amazon is increasing the prices for many of its third-party seller services. Merchants will have to pay up to 12% more for Amazon's fulfillment fees, and they'll see their storage fees increase during nonpeak months. Again, these fee increases should result in higher operating margins, as Amazon has already done the work to improve its fulfillment speed and capacity.Going forward, CFO Brian Olsavsky says he expects capital expenditures for fulfillment to match the growth of the underlying business -- third-party seller services and online retail. So, it should start to see significant leverage.3. Reduced COVID-related expensesAmazon spent approximately $5 billion on COVID-related expenses in 2021. While the pandemic continues to rage on with the omicron variant, Amazon's up-front investments and now widely available vaccines should help continue lowering the costs. Removing these expenses should help boost the bottom line.4. Working through the labor shortageAmazon saw its fulfillment problem turn from a capacity issue into a labor issue in the second half of 2021. Despite hiring 273,000 new employees in the second half of the year, it's still facing challenges. Specifically, the rise of the omicron variant in December 2021 and January 2022 meant Amazon paid for a lot of sick leave plus a lot of overtime, effectively tripling its labor expense in some cases.Amazon increased its wages across the board at the end of the third quarter to attract new workers and keep up with inflation. Overall, the labor shortage problem resulted in more than $4 billion in additional expenses in the fourth quarter compared to the prior-year period. The pressuress of the labor shortage and inflation should ease over the course of the year, with Amazon lapping the impact in the second half. That should allow its operating profits to normalize.5. Growth coming from high-margin businessesPerhaps the biggest reason Amazon's operating margin will expand in 2022 is that its growth is coming from two high-margin businesses. Amazon broke out the results of its advertising business for the first time with its fourth-quarter report. The segment grew 32% year over year, up $2.4 billion -- roughly 20% of total revenue growth for the quarter.Meanwhile, AWS revenue is accelerating, despite its massive scale. The cloud computing business grew 40% year over year, adding $5 billion in revenue from the prior-year period -- over 40% of total revenue growth for the quarter. Both advertising and AWS generate much higher operating margins than the core retail business. With these two businesses producing much of Amazon's revenue growth, margins will naturally expand.Adding it all upWhile Amazon's first quarter may see suppressed operating profits versus the prior year, investors should see a rapid expansion over the next few quarters as it leverages its assets and laps increased COVID and labor expenses.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AMZN":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2930,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9097235184,"gmtCreate":1645482648220,"gmtModify":1676534030296,"author":{"id":"3586474193512687","authorId":"3586474193512687","name":"Aaronboy","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/875e45a6d6b604dfaa34ac175ccbbb29","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3586474193512687","idStr":"3586474193512687"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Like please","listText":"Like please","text":"Like please","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9097235184","repostId":"1156868694","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1156868694","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1645447174,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1156868694?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-02-21 20:39","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Top Tech Stocks That Will Make You Rich by Retirement","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1156868694","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"KEY POINTSMicrosoft can ride cloud computing growth for decades.ASML enables advanced computing, and","content":"

KEY POINTS

Microsoft can ride cloud computing growth for decades.

ASML enables advanced computing, and there is no alternative to its EUV tools.

CrowdStrike is a leader in cybersecurity that benefits from strong network effects.

These stocks have compelling competitive advantages and growth prospects. Here are three growth stars with competitive advantages, giving them staying power and a path to making today's investors rich decades out into the future.

Microsoft

Microsoft would make an excellent core holding for both aggressive and defensive investors. Its legacy operating system is an entrenched part of most personal computers in the world, and its software franchises including the Office productivity suite and Dynamics enterprise resource planning suite are cash cows that are growing at a solid pace. Meanwhile, Microsoft's solid number two position in cloud computing has given it a rising growth star, with the Azure cloud platform growing 46% last quarter. The company has also been making thoughtful acquisitions over the past few years under CEO Satya Nadella, into social media with LinkedIn, developer tools with GitHub, and video games, with acquisitions of several game studios culminating in a recent offer to buy Activision Blizzard.

Microsoft's sprawling empire thus has a nice combo of cash cows, growth stars, and emerging products and services, compounding your investment dollars at very high returns on invested capital. Add in a growing 0.9% dividend and consistent share repurchases, and investors get a bit of everything, including cash returns and impressive growth.

Microsoft might not look cheap at 31 times earnings, but when you consider it has a higher credit rating than the U.S. government, and that the 30-year U.S. Treasury bond only yields 2.25% today, Microsoft's 3.3% earnings yield looks pretty good. That's especially true since those earnings are still growing over 20% per year despite the company's huge size.

ASML Holdings

You may have heard that we are in a semiconductor shortage, due to the boom in digitization coming out of the pandemic. The importance of chips and chip-making has never been more at the forefront, as evidenced by developing nations set to give billions in subsidies to chip companies just to keep some capacity on their own shores. Yet due to the wider tech sell-off, the semiconductor index is down about 14% to start the year.

The sell-off has been especially bad for higher-multiple chip stocks like ASML Holdings, which is down 18.6% for the year and 27.4% from all-time highs set back last summer. Still, ASML deserves a high multiple, given that it has a monopoly on extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) -- a key technology to producing leading-edge chips.

EUV tools only began to be used a few years ago for leading-edge logic chips, and all the major DRAM memory companies are now beginning to use EUV on current and future nodes. So, we are still in the early innings of EUV usage.

Although ASML projects solid 25% shipment growth this year, its growth is still severely constrained by supply chain and logistics problems. On the last conference call with analysts, CEO Peter Wennink said for many of its tools, shipments were 40% below current demand.

Amid interest rate fears, ASML has now rerated to a more palatable 40 times trailing earnings. But like Microsoft, it offers a compelling combination of cash returns in the form of buybacks and a growing 1% dividend, along with inevitable earnings growth well into the future. It's another quality stock to buy amid this year's sell-off and tuck away for decades.

CrowdStrike

Unlike the previous two stocks, cybersecurity disruptor CrowdStrike doesn't pay a dividend or buy back stock... at least not yet. However, when looking out five or 10 years, that could very well be a possibility.

CrowdStrike takes its name from its business model. The company amalgamates threat data from endpoints across all its customers into a single, centralized threat graph that gets smarter from that data. A company that gets stronger as it gains more customers benefits from what's called a network effect, which is a powerful advantage that gives a company excellent staying power.

Fortunately for CrowdStrike but unfortunately for the rest of us, cyber-threats are only proliferating. The Biden Administration recently issued stricter new guidelines for large businesses and government agencies to update their cyber systems, meaning more and more companies will now be compelled to buy best-in-class solutions like CrowdStrike's.

CrowdStrike is also investing aggressively to capitalize on that opportunity, both internally and through several acquisitions to augment its core endpoint protection offering into a comprehensive cyber platform. Management anticipates its addressable market could more than double over the next three years to $116 billion, if it succeeds in bringing new products to market.

CrowdStrike has also given an indication it could one day be quite profitable. The company's current free cash flow margin is 32%. While investors should be aware that leaves out significant stock-based compensation, the company doesn't seem to have pressing cash needs, and stock-based comp should diminish as a percentage of revenue over time as CrowdStrike scales.

Looking out a decade or more, CrowdStrike looks like a long-term winner. It still trades at a lofty 30 times sales, but it's down 43% from its November highs amid the growth-stock sell-off. But that doesn't apply to every company operating in that market. A few are still valued at extremely attractive levels, and among that group, these three look particularly smart buys for long-term investors.

Ford

Ford stock trades at a significant discount compared to some pure-play EV companies -- and it may continue to for a while. The giant automaker's ongoing transition to electric vehicles may not be easy. Further, the company may not generate margins comparable to those pure-play EV companies, as internal combustion engine vehicles will continue to account for a significant (albeit falling) share of its vehicle mix for some time.

Even in light of those points, though, the question investors should be asking themselves is: How much of a discount should Ford's stock trade at? It's important to note that in a decade, the company expects roughly half of its sales to be electric.

Ford's stock is trading at a price-to-earnings ratio of 4, which looks low compared to other legacy automakers as well as to the broader market. That lower valuation, though, is largely due to a one-off gain on its investment in Rivian. Ford's forward price-to-earnings ratio of 7.5 is in line with its traditional peers.

However, like other traditional automakers, Ford's stock is trading at a significantly cheaper valuation than pure-play EV companies. Even if some degree of discount is warranted, this one looks a bit too big, and there is surely some scope for Ford's price-to-earnings multiple to grow if it succeeds with its EV-related plans. Ford aims to be the second-largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in a couple of years. It sold 13,169 EVs in January, up 167% year over year. In 2023, it intends to produce 600,000 of them.

Might Ford come up short of its EV goals? Certainly -- but so might other automakers. For that reason, the size of the discount on Ford's stock compared to pure-play EV companies looks unreasonable. In short, Ford stock offers an attractive way to gain exposure to this fast-growing market.

BYD

Chinese EV maker $BYD ( BYDDY)$ is growing rapidly in its home market. In January, the company's new energy vehicle sales rose 362% year over year to 93,168 units. Of these, 46,386 were pure electric vehicles. Sales of its pure electric vehicles rose 221% year over year. BYD is already the world's fourth-most-prolific producer of electric vehicles.

Yet BYD trades at a much lower price-to-sales ratio than other EV companies, both top names and emerging contenders.

BYD entered the automotive business in 2003. Right now, around 95% of its vehicle sales are electric or plug-in hybrids. With rich manufacturing expertise and a leading position in the Chinese EV market, BYD looks well-placed for continued growth. In the next decade, its EV operations should grow significantly, and its stock price should follow.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen is another traditional automaker with a valuation that looks attractive considering the scope of its EV ambitions. Its price-to-earnings ratio of 6.8 is lower than that of most pure-play EV companies. Likewise, its price-to-sales ratio of nearly 0.5 compares favorably with the valuations of other EV makers.

Volkswagen intends to invest 52 billion euros in its electrification efforts, and has set itself the goal of having electric models account for half of all the vehicles it sells by 2030. One key focus of this investment plan is batteries: Volkswagen plans to establish six "gigafactories" in Europe to meet its own battery needs. In 2021, the German automaker sold more than 450,000 electric vehicles, up 95% over 2020.

Global electric car sales more than doubled to 6.6 million units in 2021, accounting for nearly 9% of the car market. This share is on course to rise in the coming years, offering immense growth potential to the automakers that can best appeal to consumers with their new EV offerings.

If Volkswagen succeeds in driving its EV sales higher while also improving margins, its stock price and valuation will surely come to reflect that.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Undervalued EV Stocks You Can Buy and Hold for the Next Decade
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Undervalued EV Stocks You Can Buy and Hold for the Next Decade\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-02-21 20:31 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
KEY POINTSFord sold 13,169 electric vehicles in January, up 167% year over year.BYD's sales of pure electric vehicles rose 221% year over year in January. In 2021, Volkswagen sold more than 450,000 ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"BYDDY":"比亚迪ADR","F":"福特汽车","VWAGY":"大众汽车ADR"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2022/02/21/3-undervalued-ev-stocks-you-can-buy-and-hold-for-t/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1171811659","content_text":"KEY POINTSFord sold 13,169 electric vehicles in January, up 167% year over year.BYD's sales of pure electric vehicles rose 221% year over year in January.In 2021, Volkswagen sold more than 450,000 electric vehicles, 95% more than it sold in 2020.Electric vehicle (EV) stocks broadly have been trading at sky-high valuations lately. Even if some degree of discount is warranted, this one looks a bit too big, and there is surely some scope for Ford's price-to-earnings multiple to grow if it succeeds with its EV-related plans. Ford aims to be the second-largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in a couple of years. It sold 13,169 EVs in January, up 167% year over year. In 2023, it intends to produce 600,000 of them.Might Ford come up short of its EV goals? Certainly -- but so might other automakers. For that reason, the size of the discount on Ford's stock compared to pure-play EV companies looks unreasonable. In short, Ford stock offers an attractive way to gain exposure to this fast-growing market.BYDChinese EV maker $BYD ( BYDDY)$ is growing rapidly in its home market. In January, the company's new energy vehicle sales rose 362% year over year to 93,168 units. Of these, 46,386 were pure electric vehicles. Sales of its pure electric vehicles rose 221% year over year. BYD is already the world's fourth-most-prolific producer of electric vehicles.Yet BYD trades at a much lower price-to-sales ratio than other EV companies, both top names and emerging contenders.BYD entered the automotive business in 2003. Right now, around 95% of its vehicle sales are electric or plug-in hybrids. With rich manufacturing expertise and a leading position in the Chinese EV market, BYD looks well-placed for continued growth. In the next decade, its EV operations should grow significantly, and its stock price should follow.VolkswagenVolkswagen is another traditional automaker with a valuation that looks attractive considering the scope of its EV ambitions. Its price-to-earnings ratio of 6.8 is lower than that of most pure-play EV companies. Likewise, its price-to-sales ratio of nearly 0.5 compares favorably with the valuations of other EV makers.Volkswagen intends to invest 52 billion euros in its electrification efforts, and has set itself the goal of having electric models account for half of all the vehicles it sells by 2030. One key focus of this investment plan is batteries: Volkswagen plans to establish six \"gigafactories\" in Europe to meet its own battery needs. In 2021, the German automaker sold more than 450,000 electric vehicles, up 95% over 2020.Global electric car sales more than doubled to 6.6 million units in 2021, accounting for nearly 9% of the car market. This share is on course to rise in the coming years, offering immense growth potential to the automakers that can best appeal to consumers with their new EV offerings.If Volkswagen succeeds in driving its EV sales higher while also improving margins, its stock price and valuation will surely come to reflect that.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"F":0.9,"VWAGY":0.9,"BYDDY":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2586,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"defaultTab":"posts","isTTM":true}
