Fed","content":"

Wall Street ended lower on Friday as a barrage of mixed economic data appeared to affirm another Federal Reserve interest rate hike, dampening investor enthusiasm after a series of big U.S. bank earnings launched first-quarter reporting season.

All three major U.S. stock indexes ended in the red, but on the heels of Thursday's robust rally, all three major U.S. stock indexes notched weekly gains.

"Today we're taking bit of a breather," said Sal Bruno, chief investment officer at IndexIQ in New York. "After yesterday's sharp move up, the market might have gotten a little ahead of itself."

Citigroup Inc, JPMorgan Chase & Co and Wells Fargo & Co beat earnings expectations, benefiting from rising interest rates and easing fears of stress in the banking system.

"As expected, the bigger banks were probably not harmed that much by the regional banking turmoil, and possibly even beneficiaries of it," said Ross Mayfield, investment strategy analyst at Baird in Louisville, Kentucky. "We saw mostly strong and healthy balance sheets, and it's pretty clear (the regional banking) crisis isn't systemic."

The S&P 500 banking sector jumped, and JPMorgan Chase surged to its biggest one-day percentage gain since Nov. 9, 2020.

Citigroup also advanced, while Wells Fargo's shares were more muted.

But a slew of mixed economic data including retail sales, industrial production and consumer sentiment cemented expectations that the Fed will hike rates another 25 basis points at next month's policy meeting.

"Industrial production and capacity utilization came in stronger than expected," Bruno added. "Both point to an economy that still has some vibrancy, which gives Fed cover to continue its rate hike policy in May possibly into June."

Those expectations were underscored by Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic, who said another 25 basis point hike could allow the Fed to end its tightening cycle, even as Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee called for the central bank to be prudent.

At last glance, financial markets have priced in a roughly 80% likelihood of that happening, according to CME's FedWatch tool.

According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 lost 8.58 points, or 0.21%, to end at 4,137.64 points, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 42.8 points, or 0.35%, to 12,123.47. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 143.22 points, or 0.42%, to 33,886.47.

First-quarter earnings season hits full stride next week, with results expected from several high profile companies including Goldman Sachs Group Inc, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America Corp, Netflix Inc and a long list of regional banks and industrials.

Analysts have lowered expectations, forecasting aggregate S&P 500 earnings having fallen by 4.8% from a year ago, a reversal of the 1.4% year-on-year gain seen at the beginning of the quarter, according to Refinitiv.

BlackRock Inc advanced after the world's largest asset manager beat quarterly profit expectations.

Boeing Co slid after the planemaker halted deliveries of some 737 MAXs due to a supplier quality problem attributed to Spirit AeroSystems .

Spirit AeroSystems' shares tumbled.

Shares of Lucid Group Inc dropped following the luxury electric automaker's disappointing first-quarter production and delivery numbers.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Nasdaq is on track for its biggest percentage quarterly gain since the end of 2020.Investors also awaited the February reading of personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index due Friday after January figures showed a sharp acceleration in consumer spending.Three Federal Reserve officials kept the door open on Thursday to more rate rises aimed at lowering inflation, with two noting banking sector problems could generate enough headwinds on the economy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 141.43 points, or 0.43%, to 32,859.03, the S&P 500 gained 23.02 points, or 0.57%, to 4,050.83 and the Nasdaq Composite added 87.24 points, or 0.73%, to 12,013.47.Fed funds futures traders are now pricing in a 55% chance of a 25-basis-point rate increase at the Fed's May 2-3 meeting.Data earlier on Thursday showed jobless claims last week rose more than expected from the week before, indicating a cooling labor market.Separately, fourth-quarter GDP growth was slightly lower at 2.6% compared with earlier estimates of 2.7%, both supporting the case for a softer Fed policy. In another report, the Commerce Department confirmed the economy grew at a solid clip in the fourth quarter, but much of the increase in output came from inventory accumulation.U.S.-listed shares of Alibaba Group Holding climbed 3.5% on a report that its logistics arm had started preparations with banks for its Hong Kong initial public offering, while those of JD.Com jumped 7.8% on plans to spin off its real estate infrastructure arm.Faraday Future Intelligent Electric Inc rose after the company said it had started production of its first luxury electric car after a months-long delay, but the stock ended the day down slightly.Advancing issues outnumbered decliners on the NYSE by a 2.70-to-1 ratio; on Nasdaq, a 1.18-to-1 ratio favored advancers. The S&P 500 posted eight new 52-week highs and no new lows; the Nasdaq Composite recorded 63 new highs and 151 new lows.Volume on U.S. exchanges was 10.36 billion shares, compared with the 12.68 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SH":1,"SPY":1,".DJI":1,"SSO":1,"UDOW":1,".SPX":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2365,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9922911467,"gmtCreate":1671670159659,"gmtModify":1676538572891,"author":{"id":"4101523587375210","authorId":"4101523587375210","name":"Longbean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e5094e621295543a14717b7f2cb3386d","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101523587375210","authorIdStr":"4101523587375210"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9922911467","repostId":"2293324732","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2293324732","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1671665811,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2293324732?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-12-22 07:36","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. Stock Movers After Hours: Micron, Under Armour, MillerKnoll","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2293324732","media":"Yahoo Finance","summary":"Micron Technology (MU)Micron stock fell more than 1% in after hours following the company's quarterl","content":"
\n
Micron Technology (MU)Micron stock fell more than 1% in after hours following the company's quarterly results. Intel is the largest producer of x86 CPUs for PCs and data centers, and Micron is one of the top suppliers of DRAM and NAND memory chips. However, investors dumped both stocks this year amid the broader sell-off across the semiconductor sector. Intel shed about a quarter of its value as Micron's stock lost roughly a third of its value. Should investors bet on either of these beaten-down chip stocks as a turnaround play?Image source: Getty Images. The differences between Intel and MicronIntel and Micron both manufacture their own chips. Intel still leads the PC and data center CPU markets, but its first-party foundries have fallen behind Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world's largest contract chipmaker, in the process race to develop smaller, denser, and more power-efficient chips. As a result, its fabless rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which outsources its manufacturing to TSMC, now produces more power-efficient chips than Intel.Micron isn't the world's largest producer of DRAM or NAND chips. That title belongs to the South Korean tech giant Samsung. However, Micron's 1α (1-alpha) DRAM chips and 176-layer NAND chips for data centers are still the most advanced memory chips in their respective markets.Intel also sells NAND memory chips, but it's in the process of selling that smaller business division to the South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix. That entire sale, which will occur in phases, is expected to close in March 2025. Until that happens, Intel will exclude its NAND business from its non-GAAP (adjusted) revenues and profits.Intel and Micron both operate in cyclical markets. However, Intel's core PC and data center CPU markets are arguably more stable than Micron's DRAM and NAND markets, which are prone to cyclical shortages, supply gluts, and price swings.Intel faces existential challengesIntel's non-GAAP revenue increased 8% in 2020, then grew 2% to $74.7 billion in 2021. Its growth decelerated as the PC and data center markets cooled off in a post-lockdown market, and it continued to struggle to hold AMD at bay across the laptop, desktop, and server markets. As Intel struggled with those headwinds, its non-GAAP gross margin declined from 60.1% in 2019 to 57.7% in 2021. Its earnings per share (EPS) grew just 9% in 2020 and 7% in 2021.Under its former CEO Bob Swan, Intel briefly considered becoming a fabless chipmaker like AMD. Swan's successor, Pat Gelsinger, swiftly abandoned that idea when he took over in early 2021 and doubled down on the expansion of its manufacturing capabilities to catch up to TSMC instead. However, Intel's capital expenditures target of $27 billion for 2022 is still much lower than TSMC's estimated capex of about $40 billion this year, so it will likely need to rely heavily on government subsidies -- such as the CHIPS Act in the U.S. -- to close that funding gap. Analysts expect its revenue to stay flat this year and for its earnings to decline 37% as it grapples with those challenges.Micron faces a cyclical slowdownMicron's revenue surged 29% in fiscal 2021, which ended last September, and rose 24% year over year to $24.1 billion in the first nine months of fiscal 2022. That growth was driven by robust demand for new memory chips across the PC, data center, cloud, auto, and industry 4.0 markets. However, Micron expects its revenue to decline 13% year over year in the fourth quarter of 2022 as the PC and smartphone markets cool off. That forecast implies its revenue will only rise about 13% for the full year. For fiscal 2023, analysts expect its revenue to decline 7% to $29.1 billion.Micron and its peers are curbing their production to avoid causing a severe supply glut (like the one which sank the market in 2019 and 2020), but it will be tough to avoid a hard landing as the market's appetite for new chips wanes.Micron's non-GAAP gross margin jumped from 31.3% in fiscal 2020 to 39.7% in fiscal 2021, then expanded to 47.4% in the first nine months of fiscal 2022. Its non-GAAP EPS also soared 114% in fiscal 2021, and analysts anticipate another 41% growth in fiscal 2022 as it closes out its current growth cycle. But next year, they're bracing for a 25% decline as it exhausts its pricing power.Micron would also benefit from the passage of the CHIPS Act and other government support measures, but it remains a technological leader and isn't starved for subsidies like Intel. Both stocks look cheap, but only one is a value playIntel trades at 11 times forward earnings, while Micron has an even lower forward price-to-earnings ratio of 9. Intel pays a forward dividend yield of 3.8%, but it might need to reduce that payout to fund its ambitious manufacturing plans. Micron pays a much lower forward yield of 0.8%.Both stocks are cheap -- but Intel's existential challenges make it a weaker play than Micron, which merely faces a cyclical slowdown. Therefore, I believe Micron remains a much better buy than Intel.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"INTC":1,"MU":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3557,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9078555708,"gmtCreate":1657720272104,"gmtModify":1676536050909,"author":{"id":"4101523587375210","authorId":"4101523587375210","name":"Longbean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e5094e621295543a14717b7f2cb3386d","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101523587375210","authorIdStr":"4101523587375210"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Ok","listText":"Ok","text":"Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9078555708","repostId":"2251901472","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2251901472","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1657682205,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2251901472?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-07-13 11:16","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why Sofi Technologies Stock Should Make a Comeback Soon","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2251901472","media":"InvestorPlace","summary":"Sofi Technologies (SOFI) is likely to report a higher book value for Q2 over Q1 and last year. This w","content":"
\n
Sofi Technologies (SOFI) is likely to report a higher book value for Q2 over Q1 and last year. This will act as a catalyst pushing SOFI stock higher, even if the price-to-book value multiple, presently...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; That is partially the case. Sofi is a fin-tech company that mainly caters to millennial investors. But its growth and the value of SOFI stock is highly dependent on old-time financial things like interest rates, spreads and growth in its book value. The good news is that in its Q1 earnings report the company was very ebullient about its 2022 expectations. Last quarter, its slide deck forecasted adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) will rise from $30 million in 2021 to $180 million in 2022.TickerCompanyRecent PriceSOFISofi Technologies$6.01Watching Book Value Per ShareIts book value, which the market looks at to value financial industry firms (especially during a recession), rose a good deal. Its shareholders’ equity (book value) rose from $4.37 billion at the end of 2021 to $5.211 billion on March 31. That is a gain of 19% in just one quarter.Since Sofi Technologies now has a market capitalization of $5.67 billion, that means its price-to-book value is just over 1x. In fact, its book value per share (BVPS) is $5.69 per share. So, at $6.01 per share, the P/BVPS is 1.056x ($6.01/$5.69).That is pretty typical for financial firms, but it is not uncommon for P/BV multiples to fall below 1x.In addition, the market also watches the tangible BVPS, which deducts all non-real assets like goodwill, the value of patents (not really possible with a bank) and things like depreciated software values. The tangible BVPS for Sofi Technologies was $3.37 per share at the end of March, according to Seeking Alpha. That means its price-to-tangible BVPS is relatively high at 1.78x (i.e., $6.01/$3.37). I believe it will stay high as long as its book value and tangible BVPS keep growing as they did during Q1.Where SOFI Stock Could Be by the End of 2022SOFI stock trades for just 1.1 times book value (BV). That is simply too cheap. If its BVPS keeps growing, by definition, the P/BVPS ratio falls as the denominator, BVPS, rises. For example, we might assume that shareholders’ book value grows by 5% from Q2 through Q4. The result will be that the compounded growth rate in book value and tangible BVPS will be 15.76%.That will put it at $6.59 per share. That is higher than the July 11 price of $6.01. As a result, the market is likely to give it a higher P/BV ratio, say 1.20x. That means the stock price could rise to $7.91 by sometime in early 2023 when the figures come out. This represents a potential gain in the stock of 31.6% from here. How This Affects Tangible BVPSThe same is true for its price to tangible BVPS, except that the rise in tangible BVPS will be higher. The math is a little complicated here. Suffice it to say that the lower base number in the denominator rises quicker than the higher base number of regular book value. For example, since shareholder’s equity grows by 15.76%, that represents a gain of $821 million (i.e., $5.21 billion x 15.76%). Now since there are 915.8 million shares outstanding, this represents a gain of 89.65 cents per share. But if we add that 89.65 cents to the $3.37 tangible BVPS, its new value will be $4.27 per share at the end of the year (i.e., $3.37 tangible BVPS + $0.8965 gain in BVPS). But this represents a huge gain, as $4.27 is 26.7% higher than $3.37.That will also mean that the market is likely to raise the P/Tangible BVPS multiple to over 2x, up from 1.78x now. Here is how that works out. The new tangible BVPS, at $4.27 as we have seen, multiplied by 2x is $8.54 per share. That is much higher than the $7.91 per share target price just using P/BVPS. It represents a potential gain of 42% from today’s price, rather than the 31.6% gain with price/BVPS.What This Means for SOFI Stock InvestorsThe result here is that we can assume that with good growth in the company’s book value and its tangible book value per share, SOFI stock will rise somewhere between 32% and 42% over the next six to eight months or so.That puts its price target 37% higher at $8.83 per share. This is actually lower than the average of 11 analysts covered by TipRanks. Their average price target is $9.23 per share or 54% over today’s price. The bottom line here is this — expect to see SOFI stock move significantly higher if its book value continues to grow each quarter.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"SOFI":1}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3267,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9070169780,"gmtCreate":1657030386340,"gmtModify":1676535934922,"author":{"id":"4101523587375210","authorId":"4101523587375210","name":"Longbean","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e5094e621295543a14717b7f2cb3386d","crmLevel":12,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4101523587375210","authorIdStr":"4101523587375210"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"K//@Longbean: Ok","listText":"K//@Longbean: Ok","text":"K//@Longbean: Ok","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9070169780","repostId":"1191090963","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"1191090963","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1655904618,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1191090963?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-06-22 21:30","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. Stocks Open Lower on Wednesday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1191090963","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"U.S. stocks open lower on Wednesday; Big tech stocks dropped in morning trading.
