UPS delivers dividendsOne look at the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio and you'll see that United Parcel Service ( UPS ) makes up less than 1/10 of 1% of the full value. But don't let that fool you on the potential of this stock for long-term investors.The coronavirus pandemic brought a shift in the way we live, leading to an increase in online ordering and delivery services. UPS benefited from that increase, with 2021 seeing a 15% jump in full-year revenue and a 51% jump in operating profit -- allowing the company to take care of its investors.The company has increased its dividend consistently for the past 20 years, culminating in a 49% year-over-year jump from 2021 to 2022, to over $6 per share annually. Whether you're a young investor looking to reinvest dividends to gain \"free\" shares along the way, or if you're a retiree looking for quarterly income, UPS may be the way to go to achieve your investment goals.Over the past 10 years, the stock price has grown by 144%. A $10,000 investment at that time would be worth over $24,000 today. And the dividends you'd be receiving this year would equate to $192 per quarter, or the equivalent of one extra share of the stock per quarter if the share price were to hold at the current $190 price.The downside to UPS is that a large chunk of the share price acceleration took place during the onset and throughout the pandemic. Coca-ColaCoca-Cola ( KO ) enjoys strong brand awareness among consumers. A possibly lesser-known fact -- though arguably as important -- is that the company holds a position in the elite ranks of Dividend Kings because it has increased its annual dividend for 60 consecutive years. With that status, it's no wonder Buffett has gone on record at times saying he would never sell a share of Coca-Cola stock, which currently ranks as the fourth-largest holding in his Berkshire portfolio.The company synonymous with soft drinks has a product portfolio that has been expanding to include sports drinks, juices, teas, energy drinks (with coffee), sparking water, and alcoholic beverages.In 2021, revenue grew by 17% year over year, helping push earnings per share up by 26%, driven by softening pandemic restrictions and growth in at-home and away-from-home channels. The company also completed its full purchase of BodyArmor, the No. 2 selling sports drink in the U.S.Although the stock price has seen what some may consider mediocre growth over the past 10 years, at 69%, it offers investors the comfort of products that are in consistent demand, and its slow but steady revenue growth in the mid-single digits is expected to continue. Along with a consistent dividend payout, it makes for one of those foundational stocks you want in your portfolio that will keep paying dividends without the risk of tanking during down markets.3. AppleApple ( AAPL  ) brings the flash and excitement that comes with technology that makes life more flexible. Innovative development has pushed revenue and share price growth, leading Buffett and his partners to make Apple far and away the top position in the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio at 43% of the total value.Apple is synonymous with the smartphone, and has gone on to develop AirPods, the Apple Watch, and a new powerful processing chip -- the M1 Ultra -- for its computers. These products display the innovative leadership that allows the company to grow revenue by 29% year over year, to $378 billion in fiscal 2021, and earnings up 25% in the first quarter of fiscal 2022.Moving into 2022 and beyond, growth catalysts include expanding its wearables product portfolio with virtual reality headsets expected in 2023, which could result in sales of 15 million units off the bat. The company will also benefit from a 5G push moving customers to 5G-capable iPhones, and its services business growing at a rate that Wedbush analyst Dan Ives believes could support double-digit earnings-per-share growth on its own. Based on 2021's jump of 12% in subscriptions across services, so far so good.Broader market restraint is keeping tech stocks suppressed. With a little momentum, I could see Apple stock at $200 a share. First-quarter earnings come out on Thursday, April 28. A surprise to the upside could send Apple stock skyrocketing. StoneCoBrazil-based fintech services company StoneCo has seen its share price plummet roughly 89% from its lifetime high, reached in February 2021. While the company's payment-processing services business has continued to post strong results over the last year, regulatory changes and macroeconomic headwinds have crushed the outlook for its credit and lending business.Working against StoneCo is the fact that Brazil's government recently implemented new lending standards. This, in conjunction with high levels of inflation, resulted in StoneCo taking significant losses on loans that it had made. To counter this, the company stopped making loans to small- and medium-sized businesses.Given that large enterprises will generally have a wider range of opportunities for funding and less need for StoneCo's offerings, these developments have dealt a huge blow to the company's credit business. On the other hand, there is still a promising growth outlook for the payment-processing services StoneCo provides to business customers. And, after precipitous sell-offs, the stock looks attractively valued.StoneCo posted a record net addition of 378,000 clients in the fourth quarter, bringing its active merchant partner count to 1.8 million. Shares of the e-commerce software company will undergo a 10-for-1 split, and a \"founder's share\" for co-founder and CEO Tobi Lütke is also being proposed (which would give Lütke 40% of total Shopify voting power).Companies split their stocks for good reasons, like to better manage stock-based compensation to employees or share buybacks. However, a stock split by itself doesn't change a company's fundamental value, so business health should be assessed rather than stock price when contemplating a buy. With that in mind, here's why each of these stock split companies is a worthwhile long-term buy-and-hold right now.Image source: Getty Images.1. Shopify: A 100-year mission still early in its developmentI'll start with Shopify, because this is my favorite company among the stock split candidates discussed here. I believe this stock also has some of the biggest upside potential in the next decade and beyond.Shopify is on a \"100 year mission to make commerce better for everyone.\" Since its IPO in 2015, shares are up over 2,300%, and that's despite the recent 60%-plus sell-off from all-time highs. Suffice to say the journey has been highly profitable so far. Shopify's software suite helps aspiring entrepreneurs, small businesses, and fast-growing retail brands manage their sales online and via traditional in-person channels. Services include everything from website management to social media marketing to digital payment acceptance.Shopify's focus over the next couple of years will be scaling its Fulfillment Network, local warehouses from which Shopify users can manage inventory and quickly ship orders to customers. In an era of fast fulfillment, giving small merchants similar shipping options as bigger retailers will be a big challenge for Shopify -- but one that could be highly profitable if it can pull it off.Given the expectation for continued double-digit percentage growth, Shopify stock appears cheap at just 27 times trailing 12-month earnings. It isn't, especially considering Shopify Fulfillment Network is going to cost about $1 billion to build over the next few years. Nevertheless, this company has proven its worth in the retail world, and it has a mission that aligns with the benefit of its large and expanding user base. Shopify looks like a fantastic buy right now ahead of its proposed stock split.2. Alphabet: The internet is a secular growth megatrendIn July, Google parent company Alphabet will undergo a 20-for-1 stock split. The last time the internet search leader underwent such activity was in 2014. Since then, Alphabet shares have risen over 350%.There are plenty of reasons to believe Alphabet will continue to provide steady growth for many years to come. For one thing, its bread-and-butter business selling digital ads is still steadily gobbling up global market share of the overall advertising industry (on pace to reach $1 trillion a year in global spending). Digital ads have a lot of benefits for marketers, and they're highly profitable for Google.Alphabet is using those profits from its core Google business (\"Google Services\" generated an operating profit margin of 37% in 2021) to fuel lots of other projects. Google Cloud is chief among them. Organizations are migrating their IT workloads to data centers and adopting cloud-based services, providing Google with a second secular growth megatrend beyond just digital ads. Add in Google Payments, YouTube, various subscription services, self-driving cars, and more, and Google has no shortage of directions to take its business.Plus this is one of the deepest-pocketed organizations around. Alphabet had $140 billion in cash and short-term investments on hand at the end of 2021, offset by debt of only $14.8 billion. Trading for just 26 times trailing 12-month free cash flow, Alphabet stock looks like one of the best long-term values out there right now.3. Tesla: Still massive upside for the EV marketTesla had its last 5-for-1 stock split over the summer of 2020, and shares have doubled in value since then. In recent regulatory filings, the company has indicated it will put another stock split on the table for shareholders to vote on.The real reason to invest in Tesla right now, though, is the massive consumer migration from traditional internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles. Of the nearly-67 million vehicles sold worldwide in 2021, only about 6.5 million were electric vehicles (EVs). Tesla delivered just over 936,000 vehicles in 2021.As legacy automakers and other EV start-ups fire up their assembly lines for next-gen cars, it isn't reasonable to expect Tesla to continue commanding such a large slice of the EV market share. However, management thinks it can continue growing sales at roughly the same rate as the EV space overall, about 50% per year, for the next few years. For an automaker that just cranked out over $45 billion worth of vehicle sales in 2021 (less environmental regulatory credits sold to other automakers), that's an ambitious growth rate.A few catalysts could help Tesla supercharge its way to $100 billion in annual sales and beyond. Its new Gigafactories in Berlin and Austin, Texas, are now live. Though temporarily shuttered due to a coronavirus outbreak, the Gigafactory in Shanghai will handle production in Asia. More factories are likely on the way, as are new models like the Cybertruck. At 71 times one-year forward expected earnings, fantastic execution of its expansion plans is already priced into this stock. But if you think the move to EVs will continue at a rapid pace for the next decade, there's a lot to like about Tesla even at these sky-high prices.4. Amazon: A fantastic allocator of capital goes on a spending spreeFor in-the-know investors, Amazon's mind-boggling run higher isn't simply a story of e-commerce expansion. It's true, Amazon used its early lead in selling online to its advantage, but that's not really what has made the stock move nearly 155,000% higher since its IPO in 1997. Rather, it's been the company's success in allocating capital to highly profitable new projects adjacent to its e-commerce empire that has been the key ingredient to its success.Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing segment that started simply by \"renting out\" extra data center capacity from the e-commerce segment, generated only 13% of all revenue last year. However, AWS operating profit accounted for 75% of Amazon's grand total. Other services like advertising on its merchant platform accounted for much of the rest of operating income.Amazon spent an incredible $65 billion on capital expenditures (property, plant, and equipment) to support its long-term growth last year. With infrastructure costs only increasing thanks to inflation, that pace of spending isn't likely to abate anytime soon. For reference, Amazon's capital expenditures were $20 billion in 2020. The explosion in spending in support of steady expansion has put pressure on the e-commerce giant's bottom line. Shares currently trade for 47 times trailing 12-month earnings, and 240 times trailing 12-month free cash flow.However, if you believe Amazon will continue to be an excellent allocator of capital to the right projects at the right time, there's a lot to like about that explosion in capital investment. During the same period, the S&amp;P 500 declined by a relatively modest -5.2%. Both SNOW and PLTR saw their shares fall the most around mid-March 2022. March 11, 2022, <i>Seeking Alpha News</i>articlehighlighted that &#34;Snowflake shares fell sharply&#34; on the day alongside &#34;several other cloud-related stocks, as investors continued to shun technology stocks.&#34;</p><p>Apart from weak investor sentiment, which has hurt the share price performance of technology stocks in general, there are also company-specific headwinds relating to Snowflake and Palantir, which I detail in the next section.</p><p>SNOW And PLTR Stock Key Metrics</p><p>Both SNOW&#39;s and PLTR&#39;s forward-looking guidance disappointed the market. This was a key factor that led to the sell-down in their shares in 2022 year-to-date.</p><p>Starting with Palantir, the company released the company&#39;s Q4 2021 financial results in a media release issued on February 17, 2022, before the market opened. PLTR&#39;s shares subsequently fell by -16% to close at $11.77 on the day of the earnings release. Palantir has yet to fully recover from its post-results announcement correction, as its last closing share price of $12.84 as of April 7, 2022, was still -8% below its pre-results stock price of $13.97 (closing price on February 16th).</p><p>PLTR&#39;s top line expanded by +34% YOY to $433 million in the fourth quarter of 2021. This was+4%above what the market had expected. The company&#39;s robust revenue growth was driven by a +71% YOY increase in the number of customers, from 139 as of December 31, 2020, to 237 as of year-end 2021, as per its recent quarterly results presentation. Palantir grew its client base much faster than what Wall Street was expecting; the sell-side&#39;s consensus 2021 year-end estimate was 219 clients, according to<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>.</p><p>However, Palantir&#39;s non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share contracted from $0.03 in Q4 2020 to $0.02 in Q4 2021. More significantly, PLTR&#39;s fourth quarter bottom line was approximately-44%below the market consensus EPS forecast. Palantir&#39;s total adjusted costs (excluding stock-based compensation) rose by +42% YOY to $309 million in the most recent quarter. This was largely attributable to a substantial jump in commercial sales headcount, from 12 as of end-2020 to 80 as of December 31, 2021, as indicated in PLTR&#39;s Q4 2021 results presentation.</p><p>Looking forward, PLTR&#39;s revenue guidance was encouraging. As per its Q4 2021 earnings press release, Palantir guided for Q1 2022 revenue of $443 million (implying +30% YOY top line expansion) and &#34;annual revenue growth of 30% or greater through 2025.&#34;</p><p>However, Palantir&#39;s near-term profitability guidance didn&#39;t meet market expectations. The company expects to achieve a non-GAAP adjusted operating profit margin of 23% in the first quarter of this year, which is much lower than Wall Street&#39;s consensus Q1 2022 operating margin estimate of 28%, as per<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>. At the <i>Morgan Stanley</i>(MS)Technology, Media &amp; Telecom Conference on March 9, 2022, PLTR explained that &#34;the investments in the product&#34; in 2021 &#34;drove more improvement faster than we actually thought they might,&#34; and the company is &#34;giving ourselves a little space there to invest as aggressively as possible.&#34;</p><p>Moving on to Snowflake, its Q4 2021 revenue of $360 million beat the sell-side consensus by+3%, and this represented a +102% YOY growth. But SNOW&#39;s shares still dropped by -15%, from a $264.69 close on March 2, 2022, to $224.02 on March 3, 2022 (post-earnings release). In the next one month or so, Snowflake&#39;s stock price declined further, closing at $213.88 as of April 7, 2022.</p><p>SNOW&#39;s shares performed poorly because investors were unsatisfied with the company&#39;s fiscal 2023 (YE January 31) revenue growth guidance. Based on the midpoint of Snowflake&#39;s management, the company expected its revenue to increase by +66% in FY 2023. This implied a substantial slowdown in SNOW&#39;s top line expansion, as the company&#39;s sales grew by +106% in fiscal 2022.</p><p>Snowflake attributed the weaker-than-expected revenue growth guidance for FY 2023 to platform performance improvements, which will provide more value to its clients. SNOW acknowledged at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media &amp; Telecom Conference on March 8, 2022, that &#34;every performance improvement we do, we may have a revenue hit,&#34; but it stressed that &#34;those customers are consuming more&#34; in around half a year&#39;s time.</p><p>In the subsequent two sections of the article, I will touch on the similarities and the differences between Palantir and Snowflake.</p><p>Do Snowflake And Palantir Share The Same Market?</p><p>Snowflake and Palantir do share the same market to a large extent.</p><p>A December 2020research report published by <i>Harris Williams</i> classified both PLTR and SNOW as infrastructure software companies. More specifically, the investment bank placed these two companies in the &#34;data&#34; sub-segment of the infrastructure software sector alongside other listed companies like Splunk (SPLK) and Alteryx (AYX), among others.</p><p><b>Harris Williams&#39;Definition Of The Data Sub-Segment Of The Infrastructure Software Sector</b></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/95d28544977ca9c17ef60304a8f96c55\" tg-width=\"474\" tg-height=\"280\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Harris Williams</p><p>In a blog post published on November 11, 2020, Palantir describes itself as a &#34;software company&#34; which builds &#34;digital infrastructure for data-driven operations.&#34; This provides support for Harris Williams&#39; categorization of PLTR as an infrastructure company that belongs in the data sub-category.</p><p>In summary, both companies operate in the infrastructure software market. This is also where the similarities between PLTR and SNOW end, as I highlight in the next section.</p><p>How Do Snowflake And Palantir Differ?</p><p>Referring to PLTR&#39;s November 2020 blog post (which I referred to in the preceding section) again, Palantir mentioned that it plays the role of &#34;data processor.&#34; PLTR emphasized that its platforms &#34;allow organizations to better manage&#34; data &#34;by bringing the right data to the people&#34; and enabling &#34;them to take data-driven decisions&#34; and &#34;conduct sophisticated analytic.&#34;</p><p>In contrast, Snowflake&#39;s cloud data platform, known as Data Cloud, is mainly focused on data warehousing and data sharing; and it partners with other companies to offer solutions such as data analytics to its clients, as per the chart below.</p><p><b>SNOW&#39;s Data Cloud Platform And Partnerships With Other Data Analytics Companies</b></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/2ced24e78a2353a0f9f8a45e9fab883b\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"314\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Snowflake</p><p>I touch on the two companies&#39; growth prospects in the long run in the next section.</p><p>What Are Snowflake And Palantir&#39;s Long-Term Outlooks?</p><p>Both Snowflake and Palantir have long growth runways.</p><p>Interactive Data Trends (IDC) has forecast that new data created will expand at a CAGR of +23%, from 64.1ZB in 2020 to 175ZB in 2025, according to January 31, 2022, article published in <i>CDO Trends</i>. As more data gets created, it is natural that this will boost demand for data warehousing, sharing, processing, and analytics going forward. This will be positive for both PLTR and SNOW.</p><p>PLTR and SNOW are expected to deliver robust top-line growth and profit margin expansion over the next few years. Snowflake will grow its revenue at a faster pace compared with Palantir, but the former&#39;s profitability will still be inferior to that of the latter.</p><p>According to consensus sell-side financial estimates sourced from<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>, Snowflake&#39;s sales are forecasted to increase by a forward four-year CAGR of +57.0%. Over the same period, Palantir&#39;s top line is predicted to grow by a slower CAGR of +34.5%, which is still pretty decent. In terms of profitability, Wall Street expects PLTR&#39;s normalized net profit margin to widen from 20.0% in 2021 to 26.8% by 2025. In comparison, SNOW&#39;s normalized net profit margin is forecasted to improve from 0.3% in fiscal 2022 (YE January 31 or approximating calendar year 2021) to 9.1% in FY 2026.</p><p>SNOW is a pioneer and leading player in the cloud data warehousing space, which explains its strong revenue growth. But Snowflake&#39;s profit margins are low on an absolute basis and inferior to that of PLTR as well. A key factor contributing to Snowflake&#39;s modest profitability is the company&#39;s dependence on third-party vendors such as Microsoft&#39;s (MSFT) Azure and Amazon&#39;s (AMZN) AWS. In my July 20, 2021,article for SNOW, I noted that the company&#39;s key suppliers of public cloud services are also the company&#39;s competitors and &#34;have a big impact on Snowflake&#39;s path to profitability.&#34; This is the most significant downside risk for SNOW.</p><p>On the other hand, a key concern for Palantir has been its reliance on government organizations. This implies that the company&#39;s revenue can be negatively impacted when the government&#39;s budget shrinks. But there have been encouraging signs with respect to client (commercial customers versus government clients) diversification in recent quarters. PTLR&#39;s commercial segment has been rapidly growing in recent quarters, as its commercial revenue growth went from +28% YOY and +37% YOY in Q2 2021 and Q3 2021, respectively, to +47% YOY in Q4 2021.</p><p>In comparison, Palantir&#39;s government revenue increased by a slower +26% YOY in the fourth quarter of last year. Also, as I mentioned in an earlier section of my article, Palantir has invested significantly in commercial sales headcount so as to further support the growth of the commercial segment.</p><p>In a nutshell, both companies&#39; long-term outlooks are decent. But PLTR has struck a better balance between top-line growth and profitability compared with SNOW, as evidenced by the consensus financial forecasts.</p><p>Is SNOW Or PLTR Stock A Better Buy?</p><p>PLTR stock is a better buy. Palantir boasts superior profit margins, and Snowflake is growing its top line at a much faster pace. But the gap in valuations between the two is huge; PLTR and SNOW are valued by the market at consensus forward next twelve months&#39; Enterprise Value-to-Revenue multiples of 11.9 times and 30.7 times, respectively, according to<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>. As more data gets created, it is natural that this will boost demand for data warehousing, sharing, processing, and analytics going forward. This will be positive for both PLTR and SNOW.PLTR and SNOW are expected to deliver robust top-line growth and profit margin expansion over the next few years. Snowflake will grow its revenue at a faster pace compared with Palantir, but the former's profitability will still be inferior to that of the latter.According to consensus sell-side financial estimates sourced fromS&P Capital IQ, Snowflake's sales are forecasted to increase by a forward four-year CAGR of +57.0%. Over the same period, Palantir's top line is predicted to grow by a slower CAGR of +34.5%, which is still pretty decent. In terms of profitability, Wall Street expects PLTR's normalized net profit margin to widen from 20.0% in 2021 to 26.8% by 2025. In comparison, SNOW's normalized net profit margin is forecasted to improve from 0.3% in fiscal 2022 (YE January 31 or approximating calendar year 2021) to 9.1% in FY 2026.SNOW is a pioneer and leading player in the cloud data warehousing space, which explains its strong revenue growth. But Snowflake's profit margins are low on an absolute basis and inferior to that of PLTR as well. A key factor contributing to Snowflake's modest profitability is the company's dependence on third-party vendors such as Microsoft's (MSFT) Azure and Amazon's (AMZN) AWS. In my July 20, 2021,article for SNOW, I noted that the company's key suppliers of public cloud services are also the company's competitors and \"have a big impact on Snowflake's path to profitability.\" This is the most significant downside risk for SNOW.On the other hand, a key concern for Palantir has been its reliance on government organizations. This implies that the company's revenue can be negatively impacted when the government's budget shrinks. But there have been encouraging signs with respect to client (commercial customers versus government clients) diversification in recent quarters. PTLR's commercial segment has been rapidly growing in recent quarters, as its commercial revenue growth went from +28% YOY and +37% YOY in Q2 2021 and Q3 2021, respectively, to +47% YOY in Q4 2021.In comparison, Palantir's government revenue increased by a slower +26% YOY in the fourth quarter of last year. Also, as I mentioned in an earlier section of my article, Palantir has invested significantly in commercial sales headcount so as to further support the growth of the commercial segment.In a nutshell, both companies' long-term outlooks are decent. But the gap in valuations between the two is huge; PLTR and SNOW are valued by the market at consensus forward next twelve months' Enterprise Value-to-Revenue multiples of 11.9 times and 30.7 times, respectively, according toS&P Capital IQ. (NASDAQ:AMD). I previously wrote about AAPL and AMD in earlier articles published onFebruary24, 2022andJanuary 31, 2022, respectively. My analysis finds that Apple is in a better position to maintain or expand its current valuation multiples as compared to AMD. Recent speculation about lower iPhone SE production for AAPL is not a major worry, and I see the potential introduction of hardware subscriptions as a key re-rating catalyst for Apple&#39;s shares.</p><p>AMD And Apple Stock Key Metrics</p><p>Recent developments for AMD and Apple deserve attention, and it is relevant to evaluate certain key metrics disclosed for these two companies in the past few months.</p><p>On February 24, 2022, AMDrevealedthat the company&#39;s &#34;board of directors approved a new $8 billion share repurchase program.&#34; As of the date of this announcement, AMD also still had $1 billion remaining from its prior share buyback authorization announced in May 2021. The new $8 billion share buyback program is quite significant representing approximately 4.6% of AMD&#39;s market capitalization, and it is usually good when companies return more capital to their shareholders.</p><p>But things are not as straightforward as it sounds on paper. AMD&#39;s new share repurchase program is likely initiated with the purpose of offsetting the dilution associated with the recent acquisition of Xilinx. In the February 24, 2022 announcement, AMD also acknowledged that it intends to buy back more of its own shares with the aim of both &#34;offsetting dilution from stock issuances and reducing share count over time.&#34;</p><p>Two weeks prior to the share buyback announcement, AMD confirmed on February 14, 2022 that the company&#39;s takeover of Xilinx has been completed. Based on my estimates, AMD&#39;s shares outstanding (excluding the effects of any share repurchases) will increase by approximately +35% as this transaction is entirely funded by the issuance of shares.</p><p>In my previous January 31, 2022 update for AMD, I noted that the company&#39;s &#34;growth for FY 2022 could be diluted as a result of the Xilinx deal.&#34; My view is supported by the work of other sell-side analysts as well. A February 11, 2022 sell-side report (not publicly available) titled &#34;Updated XLNX Accretion Analysis Ahead of the Deal Close&#34; published by Raymond James Financial (RJF) estimates &#34;about $0.43 of dilution to 2022 earnings&#34; for AMD. This is because the dilution effects of the increased share count &#34;exceeds the accretion from adding Xilinx earnings (which has grown at a slower rate vs. AMD).&#34;</p><p>Although the $8 billion new share repurchase program will help to partially offset the dilution effects relating to the Xilinx acquisition, this deal will still have a negative impact on AMD&#39;s short-term financial performance.</p><p>Separately, the most notable metric relating to Apple is the company&#39;s estimated (or speculated) production volume for its key products.</p><p>On March 28, 2022<i>Seeking Alpha News</i>publishedan article citing a<i>Nikkei Asia</i>report which claimed that Apple &#34;is cutting 20% of its planned iPhone SE output for the next quarter (2Q 2022 in calendar year terms).&#34;</p><p>In my opinion, I think that there are three reasons why investors shouldn&#39;t be unduly worried even if such speculation about AAPL&#39;s iPhone SE production cut turns out to be true.</p><p>Firstly, it could be simply a case of Apple prioritizing the production of specific key products over others, as it did in the past. In my prior November 12, 2021articleon Apple, I analyzed why AAPL &#34;reduced the production of iPads&#34; in consideration of &#34;long lead times for iPhone 13&#34; and expectations of weaker demand for iPads.&#34;</p><p>Secondly, iPhone SE should not account for a meaningful proportion of Apple&#39;s sales. Analysts from<i>IDC</i>estimatethat the recently launched iPhone SE 3 could possibly contribute a modest 10% of the company&#39;s total shipments for iPhones.</p><p>Thirdly, my analysis of Apple&#39;s historical quarterly revenue in recent years suggests that the company&#39;s revenue is typically higher in the second half of the calendar year vis-a-vis the first half. This is likely attributable to the launch of the new iPhone flagship model in September/October and holiday season purchases. As such, Q2 2021 is not a peak season for Apple&#39;s product sales, so even if production falls below expectations, this shouldn&#39;t be a major concern.</p><p>In the subsequent sections of the current article, I touch on the historical share price performance and the outlook for both AMD and Apple.</p><p>Does AMD Or Apple Perform Better?</p><p>Apple&#39;s shares have performed much better than AMD in 2022 thus far.</p><p><b>2022 Year-to-date Stock Price Performance For AMD And Apple</b></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c6bd9e03105594699fd285f8a0f82990\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"221\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Seeking Alpha</p><p>Apple&#39;s stock price decreased by -1.8% in 2022 year-to-date, which is even better than the -4.3% decline for the S&amp;P 500 over the same period. In contrast, AMD&#39;s share price has already fallen by -24.8% in the first three months or so of this year.</p><p>One factor that accounts for AMD&#39;s inferior share price performance vis-a-vis Apple is that the short-term negative effects of the recent Xilinx acquisition might be a greater concern for investors as compared to the potential reduction in production volumes for Apple, which I explained earlier.</p><p>Another factor is that the valuation de-rating for AMD has been much more severe. Notably, Apple and AMD are currently valued by the market at consensus forward next twelve months&#39; normalized P/E multiples of 28.0 times and 26.8 times, respectively based on<i>S&amp;P Capital IQ</i>data and their last traded share prices as of April 1, 2022. But AMD traded at 47.9 times forward P/E at the beginning of 2022, while the market valued AAPL at a more reasonable forward P/E of 32.0 times as of January 3, 2022.</p><p>Is AMD Or Apple&#39;s Market Capitalization Growing Faster?</p><p>AMD&#39;s market capitalization has been growing much faster than that of Apple in the past 10 years. This holds true, even if one does the same comparison for theone-year, three-year and five-year periods.</p><p><b>The Relative Growth In The Market Capitalizations Of AMD And Apple In Percentage Terms For The Past Decade</b></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/08b0b2c3cdf6c0777e684ca3da267ca0\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"221\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></p><p>Seeking Alpha</p><p>It is a different story, when one compares the market capitalization of the two listed companies in absolute terms. In the next section, I discuss the outlook and growth prospects for Apple and AMD.</p><p>Will AMD Be Worth More Than Apple In The Future?</p><p>In my view, it is highly unlikely that AMD&#39;s market capitalization can exceed that of Apple in the foreseeable future. In other words, this implies that if AAPL is valued by the market at 25 times P/E in 2026, AMD will have to trade at a P/E ratio of 330 times to equal Apple&#39;s market capitalization. This implies that there is a very low probability that AMD will be worth more than Apple in the next five years.</p><p>Separately, as I mentioned earlier in this article, both stocks are now trading at forward P/E multiples in the mid-to-high twenties percentage level. Recent speculation about lower iPhone SE production for AAPL is not a major worry, and I see the potential introduction of hardware subscriptions as a key re-rating catalyst for Apple's shares.AMD And Apple Stock Key MetricsRecent developments for AMD and Apple deserve attention, and it is relevant to evaluate certain key metrics disclosed for these two companies in the past few months.On February 24, 2022, AMDrevealedthat the company's \"board of directors approved a new $8 billion share repurchase program.\" As of the date of this announcement, AMD also still had $1 billion remaining from its prior share buyback authorization announced in May 2021. The new $8 billion share buyback program is quite significant representing approximately 4.6% of AMD's market capitalization, and it is usually good when companies return more capital to their shareholders.But things are not as straightforward as it sounds on paper. AMD's new share repurchase program is likely initiated with the purpose of offsetting the dilution associated with the recent acquisition of Xilinx.
