Adjusting My SPYG Covered Call Strategy for Market Conditions

Recently, I decided to buy back and close my SPYG sell call with a strike price of $92 at $0.18, which was set to expire in 10 days. Given the current market conditions, I believe the market will not rise significantly in the short term. This adjustment is part of my broader strategy to optimize my positions while maintaining flexibility.

Market Sentiment and My Decision to Close

The market has been fluctuating, and I noticed that SPYG wasn’t showing strong bullish momentum. Instead of risking my shares getting called away at $92, I decided to take control by closing the position early. At $0.18, the cost of closing was minimal, and it gave me the freedom to reassess my next move without being locked into a potentially unfavorable outcome.

Rolling the Position for Better Hedging

Rather than simply exiting, I wanted to roll my position forward by selling another call at a lower strike price and a later expiration date. This serves two key purposes:

1. Collecting More Premium 💰 – Selling a new call further out in time allows me to earn additional premium, boosting my overall returns.

2. Creating a Hedge 🔒 – By choosing a lower strike price, I create a defensive position, ensuring I still capture some gains if SPYG moves up while reducing downside risk.

This strategy aligns with my approach of actively managing my options trades based on market trends, technical analysis, and my portfolio’s needs.

Key Takeaway

Flexibility is key in options trading. Buying back my SPYG call early allowed me to reposition my hedge and adjust my portfolio to better suit the current market environment. I will continue monitoring SPYG and the broader market, adapting my strategy as needed.
