Share the Item You Think Best Represents the Festive Atmosphere of CNY

The Chinese New Year is approaching! The sense of ceremony for the Spring Festival is indispensable.

Chinese New Year traditions include cleaning the house, putting up Spring Festival couplets, enjoying a reunion dinner, staying up late to welcome the new year, giving red envelopes, setting off fireworks, paying New Year visits, dragon and lion dances, visiting temple fairs, celebrating the Lantern Festival, and admiring lantern displays.

What items or activities immediately make you think of the Spring Festival?

From the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month to the 15th day of the first lunar month, streets and alleys are adorned with festive decorations, and the entire holiday is filled with vibrant activities. Will you play mahjong and enjoy games with friends and family?

Fireworks light up the skies continuously during the Spring Festival, serving as a significant source of festive cheer in the hearts of Chinese people.

During last week's events, many tigers shared their purchases for the New Year, such as lanterns, snacks, and oranges. These items instantly evoke the festive atmosphere of Chinese New Year.

What's your must-eat dish or dessert in new year?

The reunion dinner in China varies greatly between the north and the south. For instance, Northerners traditionally make dumplings together, while Southerners eat tangyuan (glutinous rice balls).

However, fish is a common dish across the country, as it symbolizes "abundance year after year."

In Singapore, there is the unique tradition of tossing yusheng (prosperity toss) during the New Year.

Is there a must-listen song for the New Year?

For Chinese people, Andy Lau's Gong Xi Fa Cai is an iconic New Year anthem, much like All I Want for Christmas Is You during Christmas.

I think the item most symbolic of the Spring Festival is mandarin oranges. It is the only time of the year where you definitely can find them in every Chinese household. A must-eat is dumplings which symbolises prosperity. I don’t have a must-listen song but cai Shen dao is a popular song that I will definitely hear in the malls!

Chinese New Year, aka Spring Festival, is a significant celebration for Chinese people. It marks the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar, ushering in a period of renewal, family reunions, and good fortune. These traditions and customs that have evolved over centuries, the deep cultural values and beliefs still deeply engrained in Chinese society that embodies the cultural heritage and traditions. It is a time for family reunions, joyful festivities, and a hopeful outlook for the new year. The core values of family, tradition, and good fortune remain at the heart of this celebration.
A must do list for our family:
Spring cleaning, decorating home with CNY couplets, buying CNY goodies and  mandarin oranges a 'must have'.
Reunion dinner, CNY, visit our elders to wish them with auspicious greetings with two mandarin oranges and 'ang pow' for good luck. Then they will give their set of mandarin oranges with the blessing of good luck and prosperity.
