The USD500 Question: Can Driverless Tesla in Austin Drive TSLA to a Year End Record?

🌟🌟🌟The future arrived in Austin Texas this past weekend.  On December 14, an X user captured astonishing footage of a Tesla Model Y driving autonomously through city streets with no one at the wheel - literally zero occupants.  The video went viral and Elon Musk confirmed the news: Testing is underway with no occupant in the car.  This marks a massive leap forward in the long promised robotaxi service.

This breakthrough has reignited the fiery debate: Is $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$  on track to hit the mythical USD 500 per share target by year end?

The Robotaxi Catalyst

For years, skeptics have pointed to the slow progress of Tesla's Full Self Driving (FSD) as vaporware.  The Austin footage changes the narrative, transforming a distant vision into a tangible reality.  The market is now focused less on Tesla's traditional EV sales margins and more on the potential multi trillion dollar valuation of Tesla as an AI and robotics company.

Elon Musk had previously promised unsupervised robotaxis in Austin by the end of 2025 and these latest sightings suggest that he is very close to delivering this self imposed deadline.  The success of this driverless fleet is seen as the next major catalyst for Tesla's share price.

Current Technical Indicators : Bulls and Bears in a Tug of War

Positive Momentum (MACD):  The Moving Average Convergence Divergence indicator is currently in bullish territory and recently made a slight crossover upward, suggesting positive short term momentum is building.

Neutral RSI: The Relative Strength Index is hovering around the 55 to 60 mark, which is neither overbought nor oversold.  This indicates a balanced market sentiment without extreme bullish or bearish pressure in the immediate term.

Key Levels: The stock is trading above its 50 day moving average, a bullish sign but below its 200 day moving average, which is a longer term bearish sign.  It is trapped between major support around USD 420 and significant overhead resistance around USD 465 to USD 470.

A decisive break above the USD 470 resistance level would likely trigger a strong rally toward the USD 500 target, while a drop below USD 420 could see a quick retest of lower support levels.

The USD 500 Price Target: A Bullish Bet

As of December 16, Tesla is trading near the mid USD 400 range.  Reaching USD 500 in the remaining weeks of 2025 requires a substantial rally and a clear break of that technical resistance.

Analyst Support: The USD 500 price target is not just a retail investor's dream.  It is also the one year price target from several major investment funds.  This includes Piper Sandler which reiterated its Overweight rating in December 2025, citing robotaxi potential.

The Ultimate Bull: Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, a notable Tesla bull, has an even higher 12 month target of USD 600, projecting that AI and robotics could help Tesla reach a USD 2 Trillion  market cap by 2026.

Concluding Thoughts

Ultimately a sustained move to USD 500 depends entirely on the market fully pricing in the revolutionary potential of FSD and robotaxis.

If Tesla can scale this driverless technology rapidly and without incident , it could soar.  The Austin footage is a powerful sign that the Tesla is transitioning into a new phase of growth .  This  raises the stakes for one of the market's most exciting and polarising companies  - Tesla.
