CoreWeave Shares Surge 17%: Behind the $100B RPO, Profitability Remains Key

Following the release of its second-quarter earnings, CoreWeave’s shares rose about 17% in premarket trading on Wednesday, as the market reacted positively to the company’s results and growth outlook. $CoreWeave, Inc.(CRWV)$

In terms of financial performance, CoreWeave reported Q2 revenue of $2.575 billion, up approximately 112% year over year and slightly above analysts’ expectations of $2.56 billion. Adjusted net loss per share came in at $1.14, also better than the expected loss of $1.41 per share. Meanwhile, the company raised its full-year revenue outlook to $12.4 billion–$13.2 billion, providing another positive signal for its growth prospects.

More importantly, CoreWeave’s future revenue visibility and profitability both showed improvement. Barclays noted that the company delivered solid growth across RPO and operating profit, while operating leverage improved significantly, highlighting its strong growth momentum. Citi, meanwhile, said the second-quarter results strengthened market confidence, reflecting continued strong demand for AI infrastructure as well as improving pricing power.

On the demand side, CoreWeave’s remaining performance obligations (RPO) stood at around $104 billion at the end of the quarter, indicating a substantial amount of contracted revenue yet to be recognized. After the quarter ended, the company also signed more than $25 billion in new customer contracts, further underscoring the strength of AI demand.

The CEO said that, driven in part by tight capacity, the profit margins on agreements signed during the second quarter were 5 to 10 percentage points higher than those signed in previous quarters. If this trend continues, CoreWeave could potentially improve the quality of its earnings amid stronger demand and enhanced pricing power.

Overall, the second-quarter results signaled more than just rapid revenue growth. AI demand, order visibility, pricing power and profit margins are all improving simultaneously, strengthening the company’s growth story.

However, CoreWeave remains in net-loss territory, with negative free cash flow, while heavy capital investment and profitability remain key concerns for investors. Going forward, whether the stock can sustain its rally will depend largely on the company’s ability to continue improving its return on investment and profitability while gradually strengthening free cash flow, helping to ease market concerns over its earnings potential.
