PDD Rallied Then Faded: How Was Its Q2 Earnings?

On Monday, $拼多多(PDD)$ released its Q2 2026 earnings report. Revenue reached RMB 1123.6 billion, up 8% year‑on‑year, slightly below market consensus with slower growth momentum. Profitability beat expectations: adjusted EPS hit RMB 19.3 versus the market forecast of RMB 18.5, and adjusted net profit came in at RMB 284.9 billion, also modestly exceeding estimates.

Following earnings release, PDD’s stock staged a sharp intraday rally‑then‑fade.

Boosted by better‑than‑expected profits, the price surged as high as $91.35, up nearly 3%.

However, the market later priced in revenue‑growth disappointment, triggering selling pressure. Shares drifted lower to an intraday low of $86.26 and closed at $87.07, down 1.48%.

Looking at business breakdown: transaction services stood out at RMB 547 billion, rising 13% year‑on‑year and acting as the key driver of quarterly revenue growth.

By contrast, online marketing and other revenues totalled RMB 576 billion, with a muted 3.5% year‑on‑year increase.

For the first half of the year, online‑marketing revenue totalled RMB 1076 billion while transaction‑service revenue hit RMB 1110 billion. The two segments are now roughly equal in size, showing PDD’s revenue mix is shifting toward transaction‑based income.

On cash flow, operating cash flow improved notably. Q2 operating cash flow was RMB 257 billion, a 19% year‑on‑year increase. H1 operating cash flow accumulated to RMB 421 billion, rising 13% year‑on‑year. While peers saw negative operating cash flow, PDD maintained robust core‑business cash generation. As of June 30, cash, cash equivalents and short‑term investments expanded to RMB 4564 billion, up from RMB 4223 billion at the end of 2025. Its massive cash pile provides solid buffers for risk resistance and strategic reinvestment.

To sum up: PDD has a solid core business, with large cash reserves acting as a safety buffer. Valuation looks attractive at present, yet cheap valuations alone cannot trigger immediate share‑price gains. The market is waiting for critical catalysts: either clear profitability inflection from Temu in the second half, or management signals for share buybacks or dividends.

Transaction services did the heavy lifting, but flat marketing is the part I can't ignore. Revenue mix is improving, just not in the cleaner way bulls want.

That flat marketing segment is definitely a red flag to watch.
