in the past month. The important developments are instead coming from its large-cap growth/AI exposure:

AI and large-cap technology sentiment has turned more volatile. A recent sell-off was tied to concerns around AI-related revenue expectations and the scale of AI infrastructure spending; the Nasdaq 100 fell 1.4% and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 3.4% in that session. This matters because SCHG is designed to emphasize US large-cap growth companies, where technology and AI beneficiaries are typically influential.

AI capital-spending durability is the key near-term debate. Commentary has highlighted that investors want clearer evidence of sustained AI spending from major platforms such as Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon before becoming more constructive on data-centre-linked equities.

Rates remain an important valuation risk. The same market update reported a 10-year US Treasury yield of 5.2%; higher long-term yields can pressure the valuation multiples of growth stocks, whose expected cash flows are weighted further into the future.

Bottom line: Recent news is a modest headwind for SCHG rather than a change to the ETF itself: market attention has shifted from the AI-growth narrative to whether earnings and capital expenditure can justify elevated valuations. The next major read-through will be large-cap technology earnings and their forward AI-spending guidance.

Material risks to this view: an upside earnings surprise from mega-cap technology could quickly reverse sentiment; conversely, persistently high yields or weaker AI monetisation evidence could extend pressure on growth equities.

AI spend durability is still the hinge, but the market may be underpricing how firm Microsoft and Amazon guidance could be. That 5.2% yield is the real drag short term
