Democrats not only captured both chambers of Congress but also swept Musk&#39;s home turf of Texas — a result that dealt a severe blow to his political influence and left Tesla Motors (TSLA) and SpaceX facing unprecedented regulatory headwinds. In the most symbolic moment of election night, Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate race, becoming the first Democrat in 32 years to win a statewide election in the Lone Star State. Musk had poured more than $150 million into that single race, but his barrage of negative advertising backfired spectacularly, triggering a fierce voter backlash. In his victory speech in Austin, Talarico said pointedly, &#34;We just proved that all the money in the world cannot stand up against the people of Texas.&#34; The impact of this blue wave extends far beyond the ballot box. Democrats had already made clear that once in control of Congress, they would launch a comprehensive investigation into Musk, covering his cost-cutting actions during his tenure at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the use of SpaceX satellites in the Russia-Ukraine war. Markets were quick to price in the political risk, with Tesla Motors (TSLA) shares falling 3.34% overnight and SpaceX dropping 3.81%.<img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/962bae5dc5615a7a0c2f994b10a4a7af\" data-align=\"center\" data-image-type=\"kline\" tg-width=\"560\" tg-height=\"240\"/><img src=\"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/2e460e21248dccd38b9c10b6ffd15cad\" data-align=\"center\" data-image-type=\"kline\" tg-width=\"560\" tg-height=\"240\"/>Texas Turns Blue, Musk Loses His Political Sanctuary Texas was once a carefully constructed political safe haven for Musk. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he moved SpaceX&#39;s state of incorporation out of Delaware, relocated its headquarters from California to Texas, and settled there himself. SpaceX even owns its own city in South Texas, called Starbase. Musk&#39;s logic was simple: no matter which way the wind blows elsewhere, Texas will always stay red. However, Tuesday&#39;s election results shattered that assumption entirely. Democrat Gina Hinojosa won the governor&#39;s race, becoming Texas&#39; first Democratic governor since 1990 and the first Latina female governor; Talarico captured a federal Senate seat; and Democrat Nathan Johnson was set to become state attorney general, replacing the defeated Ken Paxton. Democrats were also on track to control the Texas House of Representatives. According to Bloomberg, Hinojosa had previously filed a lawsuit seeking the public release of over a thousand pages of unredacted communications between incumbent Governor Greg Abbott and Musk concerning tax breaks, subsidies, data centers, and public beaches near SpaceX&#39;s launch site. Now that she is moving into the governor&#39;s mansion, these issues are expected to resurface with far greater intensity. Musk&#39;s corporate interests in Texas also face renewed scrutiny. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality had, under current Chairman Brooke Paup, swiftly approved a permit for SpaceX to discharge wastewater into wetlands near Starbase. It is widely expected that the successor nominated by the new governor will review SpaceX&#39;s environmental impact under stricter standards and reassess related tax incentive and subsidy agreements. $150 Million That Amounted to the Opponent&#39;s Best Assist Musk&#39;s strategy in Texas this time was noticeably more restrained compared with his high-profile appearance in 2024 — he did not travel to the state to campaign in person, instead acting as a traditional donor funneling money primarily into negative television ads. He himself focused his efforts on X, publishing or reposting roughly 60 posts targeting Talarico alone, one of which directly called him &#34;pure evil.&#34; The strategy backfired. Talarico shrewdly turned Musk into the &#34;target&#34; of his own campaign, and at rallies in Fort Worth, Texarkana, Tyler, and elsewhere, he was effectively running against Musk rather than Paxton. &#34;Elon Musk wants our land, wants our water, wants our taxpayer money, and wants his own personal U.S. senator,&#34; Talarico told nearly 2,000 supporters in Tyler. Every time he shouted the name &#34;Elon,&#34; the crowd erupted in fierce boos. In the days before the election, antipathy toward Musk had spread to former Trump supporters. At a rally in Fort Worth, 29-year-old office manager Phil Pruitt said he had once been a fan of Musk but was now angered by his massive spending. &#34;These tech billionaires have this know-it-all attitude, and that&#39;s exactly what I dislike most,&#34; he said. &#34;What I care about most is someone who genuinely cares about people.&#34; Musk seemed to recognize that his strategy had gone off course. In a podcast conversation with biographer Walter Isaacson last month, he admitted, &#34;I think I probably should have kept a lower profile.&#34; Shadow of Congressional Investigation and Dual Pressure on Business Operations The shift in congressional power will have concrete and far-reaching consequences for Musk&#39;s companies. Democrats have made clear they will investigate how Musk cut government spending while running DOGE and whether SpaceX&#39;s Starlink satellites were ever used to restrict Ukraine&#39;s military operations. One prominent Democrat even called for the nationalization of SpaceX — an outcome that is extremely unlikely, but such rhetoric itself reflects the deep-seated antagonism that has accumulated between Musk and the Democratic Party. Musk appeared to anticipate the coming clash. Before the election, he posted on X: &#34;Those who live by the sword die by the sword. Those who are against me should understand that I will find the people truly pulling the strings behind the scenes and strike at the root, not go after their puppets.&#34; For Musk, the current situation is particularly thorny — the political infighting is emerging at a critical juncture for his businesses. SpaceX has just completed a historic IPO, Tesla and SpaceX are discussing a merger, and both are expanding into cloud computing and showcasing major milestones such as flying cars. Political distractions could pose a substantial interference with these business agendas. Data Centers Emerge as an Election Dividing Line Texas turning blue also reveals a broader shift in public opinion: resistance among American voters to AI data center construction is rapidly intensifying. Hinojosa explicitly promised during her campaign to impose a moratorium on data center construction in Texas, implement stricter water and electricity usage limits, and terminate related tax incentives. Texas currently accounts for more than 25% of the data center capacity planned in the United States through 2030. &#34;We view the Texas governor&#39;s race as a key variable for the next phase of the AI trade,&#34; Raymond James analyst Ed Mills wrote in a pre-election report, saying that a strong Democratic performance there &#34;could signal a broader electoral wave while intensifying market concerns about data center moratoriums and stricter AI regulation.&#34; Bank of America called the election &#34;one of the most consequential elections for the entire utilities sector.&#34; According to NBC exit polls, 57% of voters believed AI &#34;will do more harm than good to society,&#34; while only 24% held the opposite view. On Tuesday, voters in 13 states across the country cast ballots on data center restrictions, with 28 related measures in total, nearly all of which passed according to statistics. In Ohio alone, at least 14 municipal areas approved bans or other restrictive measures. Musk himself joked after the results became clear: &#34;Building data centers in space now seems quite appealing.&#34; Musk&#39;s Political Gamble: What Is the Cost Musk&#39;s political trajectory is a well-documented history of drift. For most of his adult life, he was not regarded as a political figure. The pandemic and a series of subsequent conflicts with California Democrats changed all of that. He moved SpaceX and Tesla headquarters to Texas, made a high-profile bet on Trump in the 2024 election, entered the White House as &#34;First Buddy&#34; and ran DOGE, becoming a super player in both politics and business. Yet signs of diminishing returns had already appeared. In the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court election, his large-scale intervention was widely seen as a political liability. That same year, he publicly broke with Trump, and although they later reconciled, the former closeness was difficult to recapture. DOGE&#39;s cost-cutting results also fell far short of initial promises. In the 2026 midterm elections, Musk spent more than $440 million, far exceeding his roughly $300 million in 2024, yet the political outcome was even more devastating than in 2024. In Texas, his attempt to trade money for votes ultimately became his opponent&#39;s most powerful campaign material. Now, with Democrats controlling Congress, Musk will step onto a new starting point in this game in a completely different role — no longer an inside player who can summon wind and rain in Washington, but the primary target on the legislature&#39;s hunting list. In his own words: &#34;Those who live by the sword die by the sword.&#34;</body></html>","collect":0,"html":"<!DOCTYPE html>\n<html>\n<head>\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; charset=utf-8\" />\n<meta name=\"viewport\" content=\"width=device-width,initial-scale=1.0,minimum-scale=1.0,maximum-scale=1.0,user-scalable=no\"/>\n<meta name=\"format-detection\" content=\"telephone=no,email=no,address=no\" />\n<title>Musk's Political Gamble Backfires as Democrats Poised to Retaliate</title>\n<style type=\"text/css\">\na,abbr,acronym,address,applet,article,aside,audio,b,big,blockquote,body,canvas,caption,center,cite,code,dd,del,details,dfn,div,dl,dt,\nem,embed,fieldset,figcaption,figure,footer,form,h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6,header,hgroup,html,i,iframe,img,ins,kbd,label,legend,li,mark,menu,nav,\nobject,ol,output,p,pre,q,ruby,s,samp,section,small,span,strike,strong,sub,summary,sup,table,tbody,td,tfoot,th,thead,time,tr,tt,u,ul,var,video{ font:inherit;margin:0;padding:0;vertical-align:baseline;border:0 }\nbody{ font-size:16px; line-height:1.5; color:#999; background:transparent; }\n.wrapper{ overflow:hidden;word-break:break-all;padding:10px; }\nh1,h2{ font-weight:normal; line-height:1.35; margin-bottom:.6em; }\nh3,h4,h5,h6{ line-height:1.35; margin-bottom:1em; }\nh1{ font-size:24px; }\nh2{ font-size:20px; }\nh3{ font-size:18px; }\nh4{ font-size:16px; }\nh5{ font-size:14px; }\nh6{ font-size:12px; }\np,ul,ol,blockquote,dl,table{ margin:1.2em 0; }\nul,ol{ margin-left:2em; }\nul{ list-style:disc; }\nol{ list-style:decimal; }\nli,li p{ margin:10px 0;}\nimg{ max-width:100%;display:block;margin:0 auto 1em; }\nblockquote{ color:#B5B2B1; border-left:3px solid #aaa; padding:1em; }\nstrong,b{font-weight:bold;}\nem,i{font-style:italic;}\ntable{ width:100%;border-collapse:collapse;border-spacing:1px;margin:1em 0;font-size:.9em; }\nth,td{ padding:5px;text-align:left;border:1px solid #aaa; }\nth{ font-weight:bold;background:#5d5d5d; }\n.symbol-link{font-weight:bold;}\n/* header{ border-bottom:1px solid #494756; } */\n.title{ margin:0 0 8px;line-height:1.3;color:#ddd; }\n.meta {color:#5e5c6d;font-size:13px;margin:0 0 .5em; }\na{text-decoration:none; color:#2a4b87;}\n.meta .head { display: inline-block; overflow: hidden}\n.head .h-thumb { width: 30px; height: 30px; margin: 0; padding: 0; border-radius: 50%; float: left;}\n.head .h-content { margin: 0; padding: 0 0 0 9px; float: left;}\n.head .h-name {font-size: 13px; color: #eee; margin: 0;}\n.head .h-time {font-size: 11px; color: #7E829C; margin: 0;line-height: 11px;}\n.small {font-size: 12.5px; display: inline-block; transform: scale(0.9); -webkit-transform: scale(0.9); transform-origin: left; -webkit-transform-origin: left;}\n.smaller {font-size: 12.5px; display: inline-block; transform: scale(0.8); -webkit-transform: scale(0.8); transform-origin: left; -webkit-transform-origin: left;}\n.bt-text {font-size: 12px;margin: 1.5em 0 0 0}\n.bt-text p {margin: 0}\n</style>\n</head>\n<body>\n<div class=\"wrapper\">\n<header>\n<h2 class=\"title\">\nMusk's Political Gamble Backfires as Democrats Poised to Retaliate\n</h2>\n\n<h4 class=\"meta\">\n\n\n<a class=\"head\" href=\"https://laohu8.com/wemedia/1039043262\">\n\n\n<div class=\"h-thumb\" style=\"background-image:url(https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/8296859682db4b478146245e72de1922);background-size:cover;\"></div>\n\n<div class=\"h-content\">\nDeep News \n2026-11-05 10:02\n</div>\n\n</a>\n\n\n</h4>\n\n</header>\n<article>\n<html><head></head><body>Musk spent over $440 million backing Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections, only to suffer a devastating political defeat. It is widely expected that the successor nominated by the new governor will review SpaceX's environmental impact under stricter standards and reassess related tax incentive and subsidy agreements.$150 Million That Amounted to the Opponent's Best AssistMusk's strategy in Texas this time was noticeably more restrained compared with his high-profile appearance in 2024 — he did not travel to the state to campaign in person, instead acting as a traditional donor funneling money primarily into negative television ads. He himself focused his efforts on X, publishing or reposting roughly 60 posts targeting Talarico alone, one of which directly called him \"pure evil.\"The strategy backfired. Talarico shrewdly turned Musk into the \"target\" of his own campaign, and at rallies in Fort Worth, Texarkana, Tyler, and elsewhere, he was effectively running against Musk rather than Paxton. \"Elon Musk wants our land, wants our water, wants our taxpayer money, and wants his own personal U.S. senator,\" Talarico told nearly 2,000 supporters in Tyler. Every time he shouted the name \"Elon,\" the crowd erupted in fierce boos.In the days before the election, antipathy toward Musk had spread to former Trump supporters. At a rally in Fort Worth, 29-year-old office manager Phil Pruitt said he had once been a fan of Musk but was now angered by his massive spending. \"These tech billionaires have this know-it-all attitude, and that's exactly what I dislike most,\" he said. \"What I care about most is someone who genuinely cares about people.\"Musk seemed to recognize that his strategy had gone off course. In a podcast conversation with biographer Walter Isaacson last month, he admitted, \"I think I probably should have kept a lower profile.\"Shadow of Congressional Investigation and Dual Pressure on Business OperationsThe shift in congressional power will have concrete and far-reaching consequences for Musk's companies. Democrats have made clear they will investigate how Musk cut government spending while running DOGE and whether SpaceX's Starlink satellites were ever used to restrict Ukraine's military operations. One prominent Democrat even called for the nationalization of SpaceX — an outcome that is extremely unlikely, but such rhetoric itself reflects the deep-seated antagonism that has accumulated between Musk and the Democratic Party.Musk appeared to anticipate the coming clash. Before the election, he posted on X: \"Those who live by the sword die by the sword. Those who are against me should understand that I will find the people truly pulling the strings behind the scenes and strike at the root, not go after their puppets.\"For Musk, the current situation is particularly thorny — the political infighting is emerging at a critical juncture for his businesses. SpaceX has just completed a historic IPO, Tesla and SpaceX are discussing a merger, and both are expanding into cloud computing and showcasing major milestones such as flying cars. Political distractions could pose a substantial interference with these business agendas.Data Centers Emerge as an Election Dividing LineTexas turning blue also reveals a broader shift in public opinion: resistance among American voters to AI data center construction is rapidly intensifying. Hinojosa explicitly promised during her campaign to impose a moratorium on data center construction in Texas, implement stricter water and electricity usage limits, and terminate related tax incentives. Texas currently accounts for more than 25% of the data center capacity planned in the United States through 2030.\"We view the Texas governor's race as a key variable for the next phase of the AI trade,\" Raymond James analyst Ed Mills wrote in a pre-election report, saying that a strong Democratic performance there \"could signal a broader electoral wave while intensifying market concerns about data center moratoriums and stricter AI regulation.\" Bank of America called the election \"one of the most consequential elections for the entire utilities sector.\"According to NBC exit polls, 57% of voters believed AI \"will do more harm than good to society,\" while only 24% held the opposite view. On Tuesday, voters in 13 states across the country cast ballots on data center restrictions, with 28 related measures in total, nearly all of which passed according to statistics. In Ohio alone, at least 14 municipal areas approved bans or other restrictive measures. Musk himself joked after the results became clear: \"Building data centers in space now seems quite appealing.\"Musk's Political Gamble: What Is the CostMusk's political trajectory is a well-documented history of drift. For most of his adult life, he was not regarded as a political figure. The pandemic and a series of subsequent conflicts with California Democrats changed all of that. He moved SpaceX and Tesla headquarters to Texas, made a high-profile bet on Trump in the 2024 election, entered the White House as \"First Buddy\" and ran DOGE, becoming a super player in both politics and business.Yet signs of diminishing returns had already appeared. In the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court election, his large-scale intervention was widely seen as a political liability. That same year, he publicly broke with Trump, and although they later reconciled, the former closeness was difficult to recapture. DOGE's cost-cutting results also fell far short of initial promises.In the 2026 midterm elections, Musk spent more than $440 million, far exceeding his roughly $300 million in 2024, yet the political outcome was even more devastating than in 2024. In Texas, his attempt to trade money for votes ultimately became his opponent's most powerful campaign material.Now, with Democrats controlling Congress, Musk will step onto a new starting point in this game in a completely different role — no longer an inside player who can summon wind and rain in Washington, but the primary target on the legislature's hunting list. In his own words: \"Those who live by the sword die by the sword.\"","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":1,"SPCX":2}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":34,"commentLimit":10,"likeStatus":false,"favoriteStatus":false,"reportStatus":false,"symbols":[],"verified":2,"subType":0,"readableState":1,"langContent":"EN","currentLanguage":"EN","warmUpFlag":false,"orderFlag":false,"shareable":true,"causeOfNotShareable":"","featuresForAnalytics":[],"commentAndTweetFlag":false,"andRepostAutoSelectedFlag":false,"upFlag":false,"length":91,"optionInvolvedFlag":false,"subscribersOnly":false,"subscribersOnlyAccessible":false,"xxTargetLangEnum":"ORIG"},"commentList":[],"hasMoreComment":false,"orderType":2}
