π $VST (Vistra Energy) β Selling the December 18, 2026 $130 Cash-Secured Put
β‘ Collecting Premium While Waiting for a Better Entry!
Today, I am looking at $Vistra Energy (VST) and selling the December 18, 2026 $130 PUT option. Instead of rushing to buy shares at the current market price, I prefer to let the market pay me while I wait for an opportunity to own the stock at a price I am comfortable with.
My strategy is simple: sell cash-secured puts, collect option premiums and potentially become a shareholder if the stock falls below my strike price.
π° 1οΈβ£ Why am I making this trade now?
Vistra is an interesting energy company because of its exposure to electricity generation, power demand and the growing energy requirements of data centres and artificial intelligence.
As AI infrastructure expands, electricity demand becomes an increasingly important investment theme. Data centres require reliable power, and energy companies could benefit from this long-term trend.
However, energy stocks can be volatile. Rather than chasing VST after a strong rally, I prefer selling puts at a price where I would be comfortable accumulating shares.
My chosen strike is $130, giving me a predefined potential entry price before considering the premium received.
π― 2οΈβ£ Whatβs my plan from here?
If VST stays above $130 until expiration, I keep the premium and the contract expires worthless.
If VST falls below $130 and I am assigned, I will be prepared to purchase 100 shares at $130 per share. My effective cost basis will be reduced by the premium collected.
If I receive the shares, I can consider selling covered calls to generate additional income through the wheel strategy.
πΆ Options Puppy Takeaway
I donβt need to predict every market movement. I want to get paid for being patient.
My objective is to collect premiums, manage my capital carefully and build positions in companies I am willing to own.
Remember, selling puts is not risk-free. I must have sufficient cash to cover assignment and be comfortable holding VST if the share price declines.
