🐶⚡ Options Puppy: Collecting Premium from the Energy Sector – VST, OKLO & CEG

🐶⚡ Options Puppy Goes Energy Hunting! Selling a $VST $130 Put – Collecting Premium While Watching OKLO and CEG

Today, Options Puppy decided to go shopping in the energy sector again! 🐶💰

Instead of rushing into the market and buying shares outright, I decided to use one of my favourite options strategies: selling cash-secured puts.

My latest trade is on $Vistra Corp (VST). I sold a $130 put option expiring on 18 December 2026.

Why VST? Because I believe the energy sector deserves attention, especially with the growing electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI), data centres and the expansion of digital infrastructure.

AI is not just about buying NVIDIA chips, semiconductor companies or software stocks. Behind every AI data centre, there is one important requirement: electricity!

And that is where companies such as VST, OKLO and CEG become interesting.

🐶 1️⃣ Why am I making this trade now?

My decision to sell a VST put is based on the longer-term electricity demand story.

Over the past few years, the AI industry has become one of the biggest investment themes in the market. Investors are focusing heavily on semiconductor companies, cloud computing and data centres.

However, I want to look beyond the obvious technology names.

Every new data centre requires electricity to operate. AI training, cloud computing and high-performance computing consume enormous amounts of power. As demand increases, reliable electricity generation becomes increasingly important.

This creates an interesting opportunity for companies involved in electricity generation.

I am particularly interested in three companies:

⚡ 1. Vistra (VST) – My latest put-selling target

VST is one of the companies I am watching closely in the electricity generation business.

Its generation portfolio includes natural gas, nuclear and other power generation assets. I like the exposure to electricity demand because the company can potentially benefit from tighter power markets and increasing electricity consumption.

Instead of buying VST shares immediately, I prefer to sell puts.

My latest trade:

* Stock: VST

* Strategy: Cash-secured put

* Strike price: US$130

* Expiration: 18 December 2026

* Position: Short put

My objective is straightforward. I want to collect option premium while potentially acquiring VST shares at my preferred entry price.

If VST remains above US$130 at expiration, the put may expire worthless and I keep the premium.

If VST falls below US$130, I may be assigned 100 shares per contract at US$130 each.

That means I must be comfortable owning VST at that price.

I am not selling puts simply because the premium looks attractive. I want to sell puts on companies that I am prepared to hold.

☢️ 2. OKLO – The nuclear energy growth story

The second company on my energy watchlist is OKLO.

Unlike traditional electricity generators, OKLO is focused on developing advanced nuclear fission technology and small-scale power solutions.

I find this company interesting because the future electricity demand story could create opportunities for advanced nuclear energy.

Data centres need reliable electricity around the clock. Solar and wind are useful renewable energy sources, but their generation depends on weather conditions and time of day. Nuclear power offers the potential for consistent electricity generation.

However, I must remember that OKLO is a speculative investment.

Its technology, commercialisation, regulatory approvals and financing requirements all carry significant risks.

I would therefore approach OKLO differently from VST.

For a company like OKLO, I would be more conservative with position sizing and strike selection. I do not want to sell puts just because the implied volatility is high.

High premiums usually come with higher uncertainty.

My strategy is to wait for better entry opportunities rather than chase the share price when everyone becomes excited about nuclear energy.

⚡ 3. CEG – Constellation Energy

The third company is CEG, or Constellation Energy.

CEG is another important company in the nuclear electricity generation space.

I like the connection between nuclear power and the growing electricity requirements of data centres.

One of the biggest advantages of nuclear energy is its ability to provide reliable baseload electricity. This makes nuclear power an important part of discussions about future electricity supply.

As AI infrastructure expands, investors may increasingly pay attention to companies capable of supplying dependable electricity.

However, CEG is not risk-free. Electricity prices, regulation, operating costs, maintenance and capital expenditure can all influence its earnings.

I want to watch its valuation and technical support levels before committing more capital.

🐶 2️⃣ What’s my plan from here?

My plan is not to buy everything at once.

I prefer to divide my attention across VST, OKLO and CEG while managing my capital carefully.

For VST, I will monitor the share price relative to my US$130 strike price. I will also watch the company’s earnings, electricity prices and developments in data centre power demand.

If VST stays above my strike price, I can potentially keep the premium without taking ownership of the shares.

If VST drops below US$130, I need to be prepared for assignment. I must have sufficient cash available to meet the obligation.

For OKLO, I will watch its regulatory milestones, project developments and commercial progress. I will avoid taking oversized positions because the company has greater execution and valuation uncertainty.

For CEG, I will monitor earnings, nuclear generation developments and electricity demand from large customers.

I also want to compare the three companies rather than assume that all energy stocks will move in the same direction.

💰 3️⃣ Why I prefer selling puts instead of chasing shares

One thing Options Puppy has learned is that I do not always need to buy shares immediately.

Sometimes the market becomes overly optimistic, and prices rise too quickly. Other times, investors become nervous and shares fall even when the long-term business outlook has not changed significantly.

Selling puts gives me another way to approach the market.

There are two possible outcomes:

Scenario A: The share price stays above my strike.

I keep the option premium, and I can look for another opportunity.

Scenario B: The share price falls below my strike.

I may be assigned the shares at the strike price. My effective purchase cost is reduced by the premium received, before fees and other costs.

Of course, selling puts is not free money. If the stock falls sharply, my losses can be substantial. I must have enough capital and be comfortable owning the underlying shares.

📊 4️⃣ My energy sector strategy

I am looking at the energy sector from three different angles:

* VST: Electricity generation and exposure to power demand.

* OKLO: Speculative advanced nuclear technology and future development.

* CEG: Established nuclear electricity generation exposure.

I do not expect all three stocks to perform equally well.

Some may benefit more from electricity prices, while others may depend on successful project development and future contracts.

That is why I want to manage each position separately.

🐶 5️⃣ My final thoughts – Follow the electricity, not just the AI chips!

The AI investment theme is much bigger than NVIDIA and the semiconductor industry.

Behind every GPU, server rack and data centre is an electricity requirement.

I want to explore opportunities further down the supply chain.

My latest VST US$130 put is another example of how I use options to approach a stock I am interested in owning.

I will continue watching OKLO and CEG for suitable opportunities, but I will not rush into trades simply because the energy sector is attracting attention.

My philosophy remains simple:

Collect premium when the risk and reward make sense. Keep cash available. Be prepared for assignment. Never sell a put on a company I am unwilling to own.

After all, Options Puppy does not need to chase every green candle. Sometimes the best trade is simply waiting patiently and letting the premium come to me! 🐶💰

Remember: Options trading involves substantial risk. Cash-secured puts can still result in significant losses if the underlying shares decline. Always understand the assignment obligation before entering a trade.
