🐶 Options Puppy: Collecting $581.20 by Selling a VST Cash-Secured Put
⚡ 1. What did I do?
Today, I decided to sell a cash-secured put on $Vistra Energy (VST) with a strike price of US$130, expiring on 18 December 2026.
Instead of buying VST shares directly in the market, I chose to sell a put option and collect premium upfront. My strategy is simple: get paid while waiting for an opportunity to own a company that I am interested in.
When I sold the put, my premium (cost price shown in my trading record) was US$17.24 per share. Now, the option’s current market price has fallen to US$11.43.
The difference is US$5.81 per share. Since one standard options contract represents 100 shares, my current profit is:
US$5.81 × 100 = US$581.20
🐶 That’s US$581.20 in unrealised profit without having to purchase the 100 VST shares yet!
📊 2. Why am I making this trade now?
I am interested in the energy sector because electricity demand, data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure are important themes in the market.
Companies such as VST, CEG and OKLO have attracted attention because of the growing demand for electricity and reliable power generation.
Rather than chasing VST shares when prices move higher, I prefer to let the market pay me through option premiums while waiting for a better entry opportunity.
🎯 3. What’s my plan from here?
I will continue monitoring VST’s share price and the option premium.
If the option premium continues declining, I may consider buying back the contract early to lock in my profit.
If VST falls below US$130 and I get assigned, I will be prepared to purchase 100 shares at US$130. After accounting for the US$17.24 premium received, my effective purchase price would be US$112.76 per share, before fees.
🐶 My philosophy remains simple: I don’t need to chase every stock. Sometimes, the better trade is to patiently collect premium while waiting for the right opportunity.
Options Puppy collects premium, manages risk and lets time work in my favour!
Note: The US$581.20 is unrealised profit, not yet locked-in cash profit.
