As of last weekend, Avatar 2 delivered a confirmed $307.6m in 52 international markets plus $134m in North America, combining for a confirmed $441.6m worldwide. The worldwide opening reps the 3rd highest global weekend posted by any Hollywood film during the pandemic era.

Avatar 2 Might Lose Money?
How expensive is “Avatar: The Way of Water”? Early reports have claimed the estimated budget of $350–460 million. It is one of the most expensive films ever made.
Cameron said that
his sequel budget was so high it represented “the worst business case in movie history."
You have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history. That’s your break even.”
On the current chart of highest-grossing movies worldwide, Cameron’s original 2009 “Avatar” ranks at the top with 2.9 billion. Disney’s “Avengers: Endgame” is in second position with 2.7billion, while Cameron’s “Titanic” remains in the third slot with 2.1 billion.
Although the first week witnessed healthy box office data, Avatar 2 doesn't present a strong momentum to fulfill the directors' 2 bln goal.

BofA Securities analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich said
if the movie does well, it could drive revenue streams for Disney, and if it doesn’t do well “there could potentially be a write down.”
Wells Fargo gives Disney theprice target of $125, which implies 46% upside from Monday’s close.
