How to handle vertical spread expiration? Practical case analysis

Vertical Spread is a strategy that combines two options with the same strike date and the same type (both call or put), but with different strike prices. By buying and selling two option contracts, investors limit returns and risks, so that profits and losses are fixed within a certain range. According to different directions, vertical spreads can be divided into Bull Call Spread and Bear Call Spread. At expiration, the settlement of the vertical spread follows standard option exercise principles. China Stocks Bleed as Tariff Fears Rise — Is Alibaba the One to Catch?

$Alibaba(BABA)$ $BABA-W(09988)$ After six straight sessions of relentless selling, Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE: BABA) has once again found itself in the market’s crosshairs — this time, caught in the crossfire of renewed U.S.-China tensions. The stock plunged nearly 7% intraday, briefly touching the $160 level before paring some losses. What began as a fragile rebound in Chinese equities quickly reversed course as investors digested a new round of harsh trade rhetoric from former President Donald Trump, who pledged sweeping tariffs and tougher trade enforcement on China if re-elected. Their competency are world class.  The value per share of the company under US200 is way too cheap based on the trajectory of its future earning. It should be easily be more than US1000 in the near future. I am more inclined to think that AI bubble ( if there is one ) and the threat of tariffs should not affect its profitability and value.  In fact restriction of supply of rare earth to the world will benefit greatly for the Chinese AI and chip production companies.  For its production will not face disruption.

I'm not interested in $Alibaba(09988)$  or $Alibaba(BABA)$   However if I were interested and wanted to buy or add, I would look use the moving average as support to buy. For HK BABA, it's at the 20ma about $165 now. You can add if you die die must buy BaBa now but I would rather wait till it hits the 50ma at $140 which coincides with a previous swing high. That makes it a stronger support. For US BaBa, it's between 20ma and 50ma. This most likely means it's going to fall to 50 ma at $145. This price also coincides with a previous swing high.  Therefore, checking both HK BABA and US Baba... 50ma is a good price to buy.

Alibaba is rated a buy, driven by strong AI ambitions and expanding leadership in China's cloud and semiconductor sectors. Alibaba's June quarter showed 10% of comparable revenue growth, indicating a clear business turnaround. Cloud Intelligence Group revenues surged 26% YoY, with AI-related product revenue maintaining triple-digit growth for the eighth consecutive quarter. Despite short-term profitability declines due to investments, Alibaba's technicals and valuation suggest further upside as it positions itself as an AI superpower.

Can BABA Live Up To Analysts Price Target Expectations? Let's See

$Alibaba(BABA)$ stock price rises after Citibank analyst raised its price target multiple times in 2025, but we saw BABA lost 4.11% on 09 Oct and further 2.19% on 10 Oct 24-hours trading. So I think we need to understand these questions, are investors losing confidence, given the recent ~4.1% drop on 9 Oct and ~2.2% drop on 10 Oct (24-hour) in BABA? Does Alibaba have a moat and enough upside to reach the ~$218 + price targets (e.g., from Citibank raising the target) given the risks? What Is Positive / Support For The Upside Thesis Citi recently raised their target for BABA to US$217 from US$187, while reiterating a Buy rating. They cited stronger cloud / data-centre capex assumptions as a driver. Alibaba is often assessed as a “wide moat” company.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong dollar briefly strengthened to 7.79 against the U.S. dollar, an unexpected move that forced the HKMA to step in once again to defend its currency peg.Money is flowing back, exchange-rate volatility is rising, and one message is clear: Hong Kong is entering a new era of financial-infrastructure reform.
