Loan, delinquencies & AI bubble - News & my thoughts (28Jul25) Part 4 of 5

News and my thoughts from the past week (28Jul25) Image US auto loan delinquency rates keep on surging: Subprime auto loan delinquency rates just crossed above 5% for the first time in history. Since 2022, the 60-day delinquency rate for subprime auto loans has more than DOUBLED. Delinquency rates are now above the peak levels recorded in 2008 and 2020. Furthermore, prime auto loan 60-day delinquencies have risen to their highest in 14 years. Layoffs, Closure & Real Estate - My investing muse (28Jul25) part 5 of 5

My Investing Muse (28Jul25) Layoffs & Closure news Microsoft laid off ~16,000+ workers in 2025 (so far). Filed 6,000+ H-1B visa applications. To me, it was about the optics more than anything. The job market isn’t great. H1B isn’t new. But damn, y’all… They told the media it was “just flattening management.” (Only 17% of those cut were actually managers.) The real story? Headcount is shifting... to AI, to vendors, to overseas teams. This is labour arbitrage. - X user Amanda Goodall 58% of students who graduated within the last year are still looking for their first job, according to a recent report from Kickresume. - X user Unusual Whales Image US small farm bankruptcies hit 173 in the H1 2025, the highest since the 2020 CRISIS. American Airlines Beats on Q2 Earnings and Revenue, but Guides to Q3 Loss: Navigating Turbulence Ahead

$American Airlines(AAL)$ American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL) reported second-quarter fiscal 2025 results that outpaced Wall Street expectations on both the top and bottom lines, driven by resilient summer travel demand, cost controls, and strategic capacity management. Yet despite the upbeat quarter, the airline tempered investor optimism with a more cautious forecast for Q3, projecting a loss amid rising fuel prices, continued labor-related cost pressures, and signs of softening demand in late August and September. The mixed results underscore the challenging operating environment legacy carriers face, even as travel normalizes post-pandemic. American, the world’s largest airline by available seat miles, finds itself at an inflection point—balancing p

DBS cresting $49.21 [OMG]  is no small feat! but with a P/B North of 2.0x & margin compression looming, the climb 📈 towards $50 might need a breather. Loan book's solid 💪, but elevated valuations vs. book value suggest volatility ahead. I've held DBS since 2021 [Happy]  , & while the dividend yield (6.4%) & capital return plan are sweeteners, I'm watching 👀 for signs of fatigue. A pullback post - ATH wouldn't surprise me - especially if OCBC's earnings next week show sharper NIM erosion. Their Q1 NIM dropped 23bps, & if that trend continues, it could signal sector - wide pressure [OMG]  . That said, OCBC 's fee & insurance income held up well, & their CET1 ratio at 17.6% gives them cushion. For now, I'm holding DBS, but trimming expecta

🚀 AMD surges to $166, NVIDIA rides Alphabet’s $10B AI capex wave — Who’s got the edge in the race to $200? [Surprised] With big tech earnings looming, here’s what I’m watching.[Eye] AMD’s July run is no joke — Up 23%, breaking resistance with volume confirmation. Traders are chasing momentum, but RSI’s flashing caution ⚠️. NVIDIA’s setup is quieter, but deeper: $44B Q1 revenue, 75% margins, & hyperscale demand still ramping. S&P New High Again 🔥Extreme Greed: Avoid Summer Dip?

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq have once again posted new all-time highs. NASDAQ (.IXIC) S&P 500 (.SPX) With the Fear & Greed Index sitting in the “Greed” territory, many investors seem to be rushing into risk assets without hesitation. But I’m not one of them. While the dominant narrative may be bullish and perhaps justifiably so, I find myself leaning into selective skepticism. My Core Investment Philosophy: “Buy Low, Sell High” But Not Every Low Is a Buy Let’s start here: I believe in buying low and selling high. It’s a timeless principle, but it’s also one of the hardest to execute consistently, especially in a market driven by hype, algorithms, and short-term emotion. Importantly, not every dip is worth buying, and not every high is worth fearing. It all comes down to context, con

I Try Not to Be Greedy: Lessons from the Market & Life

Whether it's with stocks, money, or anything else in life, I’ve made a conscious effort to avoid greed. Why? Because I’ve come to believe that greed quietly erodes peace of mind. It pushes us to chase more, even when we already have enough. And in that endless chase, we lose sight of what truly matters—contentment and gratitude. In the Stock Market: Small Profits, Big Perspective When I invest in stocks, I always try to remind myself: a profit is a profit even if it's small. Yes, there are times when I look back and think, "I sold too early." I’ve seen stocks climb higher after I exited. I've calculated what I could have made if I had held on just a bit longer. That kind of thinking is natural, especially in a market that often rewards risk-takers. But then I pause and remind myself: “Woul

China Assets Back to Street! After HSI Breaks 25000, Ride or Run?

The Hang Seng Index (HSI) recently surged past the 25,000 mark, reigniting investor interest and bringing China assets back into the spotlight. HSI (HSI) Yes, China Assets Are Rising… But I’m Still Watching from the Sidelines Let me start by saying: I don’t currently own any China-related assets, and at this point, I don’t plan to buy any either. This isn’t because I doubt the long-term potential of Chinese companies—many of them are highly innovative, resilient, and offer real growth stories. The hesitation comes from a few very practical, personal reasons. 1. I Struggle to Buy When Prices Have Already Jumped Like many investors, I try to follow the classic wisdom of “buy low, sell high.” With the HSI rallying sharply and many individual China stocks surging off their lows, I find myself

Downgrades Circle: Pullback to $180 Again After the Party?

Circle Internet Financial Corp. (CRCL) slipped after investment firm Compass Point Research downgraded its rating from Neutral to Sell. Analysts noted that if the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates, Circle’s earnings are expected to decline, which could impact its future profitability. Circle Internet Corp. (CRCL) That was enough to spook some investors. The party might be cooling down—again. But here’s the thing: Wall Street downgrades don’t drive my decisions. Why I Don’t Chase Analyst Ratings Let me be clear—I’m not claiming I know more than the analysts. They have research tools and financial models. But personally, I find many analyst upgrades and downgrades are reactive rather than predictive. They often follow the trend instead of getting ahead of it. A downgrade after a run-up or

Nvidia vs. AMD: The $200 Race—Who Crosses First?

$NVIDIA(NVDA)$ $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ The semiconductor showdown is on, with Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) neck-and-neck in a race to hit $200 per share. Nvidia, trading at $174.94, and AMD, at $173.82, are both riding the AI wave, fueled by big tech’s capex surge and Trump’s “America AI Action Plan.” Nvidia’s dominance in AI chips and AMD’s recent 2% jump on July 25, 2025, keep the competition tight. $SoFi Technologies Inc.(SOFI)$ 🧠📈🚀 SoFi’s Inflection Point: Is $25 Just the Beginning for $SOFI? 🚀📈🧠 🎯 Executive Summary I’m fully convinced that SoFi’s Q1 earnings marked a structural pivot from potential to performance. Despite a staggering +177% rally from April lows ($8 to $22), I see this current pullback as more recalibration than rejection. $SOFI posted a Q1 beat across the board: $772M revenue (+33% YoY, +4% beat), adjusted EPS of $0.06 (+200% YoY), and record user growth (10.92M members, +34% YoY). It’s a spotlight on which chipmaker dominates the AI era. Nvidia ($NVDA) and AMD ($AMD) are now neck and neck in price: $175.86 and $172.94 respectively, but diverge sharply in fundamentals. The spark? Alphabet’s $10B capex plan, a bullish signal for hyperscaler-aligned players like Nvidia.
