Airline spending, meanwhile, was 91% higher year over year in March alone, according to a monthly Bank of America Institute consumer checkpoint.

During the first quarter of 2022, airline stocks returned 4.3%, compared with the S&P 500’s negative 4.9% return, calculated Bank of America Global Research analyst Andrew Didora. The group outperformed in January and February—despite the Omicron wave—and modestly underperformed in March, Didora said.

“We think the March and year-to-date results are impressive given the geopolitical environment and a 36% increase in jet fuel prices since the Russia/Ukraine conflict began and speaks to the strong demand environment as leisure and corporate travel return post-Omicron,” Didora wrote in a research note.

But the windfall from a travel resurgence could be slow to materialize uniformly across the industry as airlines navigate a challenging macroeconomic environment—from labor shortages and rising fuel costs to weather delays.

More than 10,000 domestic flights were delayed or canceled the first weekend of April, with cancellations extending well into this week.

On Monday alone, there were a total of 13,088 delays, with 5,350 of them within, into, or out of the U.S., and 2,860 cancellations, with 315 of them into or out of the U.S., according to flight tracking service FlightAware.

$JetBlue Airways(JBLU )$ canceled 55, or 5%, of its flights that day, and delayed 367, or 34%, of its flights, while Spirit Airlines canceled 93, or 11%, and delayed 283, or 35%. $Southwest Airlines( LUV )$, United Airlines , Delta Air Lines , and Alaska Airlines also had delays or cancellations.

For some customers champing at the bit to get out and travel, the delays and cancellations have become an unexpected source of frustration and uncertainty.

“Everyone is just on high alert and on edge,” said Michele Silverman, a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, resident whose flight back home from Orlando got canceled on April 4.

Silverman was flying back after running in the Disney Springtime Surprise run weekend. Although she had seen the flurry of cancellations throughout the weekend, exacerbated by weather conditions, she was hopeful that she would make her Frontier ( ULCC ) flight. After a short delay, the flight eventually got canceled because of mechanical issues, so she was forced to book a new flight through Spirit for the following day, since Frontier didn’t have a flight to Harrisburg until later that week.

Silverman’s new flight was delayed for more than an hour, as the crew was missing one flight attendant.

“I’ve had flights delayed, but it’s the first time I’ve ever had a flight canceled and been stranded before, so that was not enjoyable,” she added.

Frontier didn’t respond to Barron’s requests for comment.

Last week, Alaska Airlines announced it was reducing 2% of its flights through the end of June to match its current pilot capacity. Due to delays in training, the airline had 63 fewer pilots prepared to fly in April than originally planned for, the company said.

As travel rebounds, airlines are scrambling to recruit more pilots and meet current demand, but 83% of regional carriers are finding it challenging to recruit talent, according to an Oliver Wyman study. In North America, the pilot shortage is projected to reach more thasn 12,000 pilots by 2023, amounting to about 13% of total demand, the study found. Airline spending, meanwhile, was 91% higher year over year in March alone, according to a monthly Bank of America Institute consumer checkpoint.During the first quarter of 2022, airline stocks returned 4.3%, compared with the S&P 500’s negative 4.9% return, calculated Bank of America Global Research analyst Andrew Didora. The group outperformed in January and February—despite the Omicron wave—and modestly underperformed in March, Didora said.“We think the March and year-to-date results are impressive given the geopolitical environment and a 36% increase in jet fuel prices since the Russia/Ukraine conflict began and speaks to the strong demand environment as leisure and corporate travel return post-Omicron,” Didora wrote in a research note.But the windfall from a travel resurgence could be slow to materialize uniformly across the industry as airlines navigate a challenging macroeconomic environment—from labor shortages and rising fuel costs to weather delays.More than 10,000 domestic flights were delayed or canceled the first weekend of April, with cancellations extending well into this week.On Monday alone, there were a total of 13,088 delays, with 5,350 of them within, into, or out of the U.S., and 2,860 cancellations, with 315 of them into or out of the U.S., according to flight tracking service FlightAware.$JetBlue Airways(JBLU )$ canceled 55, or 5%, of its flights that day, and delayed 367, or 34%, of its flights, while Spirit Airlines canceled 93, or 11%, and delayed 283, or 35%. $Southwest Airlines( LUV )$, United Airlines , Delta Air Lines , and Alaska Airlines also had delays or cancellations.For some customers champing at the bit to get out and travel, the delays and cancellations have become an unexpected source of frustration and uncertainty.“Everyone is just on high alert and on edge,” said Michele Silverman, a Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, resident whose flight back home from Orlando got canceled on April 4.Silverman was flying back after running in the Disney Springtime Surprise run weekend. Although she had seen the flurry of cancellations throughout the weekend, exacerbated by weather conditions, she was hopeful that she would make her Frontier ( ULCC ) flight. After a short delay, the flight eventually got canceled because of mechanical issues, so she was forced to book a new flight through Spirit for the following day, since Frontier didn’t have a flight to Harrisburg until later that week.Silverman’s new flight was delayed for more than an hour, as the crew was missing one flight attendant.“I’ve had flights delayed, but it’s the first time I’ve ever had a flight canceled and been stranded before, so that was not enjoyable,” she added.Frontier didn’t respond to Barron’s requests for comment.Last week, Alaska Airlines announced it was reducing 2% of its flights through the end of June to match its current pilot capacity. Due to delays in training, the airline had 63 fewer pilots prepared to fly in April than originally planned for, the company said.As travel rebounds, airlines are scrambling to recruit more pilots and meet current demand, but 83% of regional carriers are finding it challenging to recruit talent, according to an Oliver Wyman study. In North America, the pilot shortage is projected to reach more thasn 12,000 pilots by 2023, amounting to about 13% of total demand, the study found. Alaska Airlines calculates that during the pandemic, some 10,000 pilots left the industry.The shortage may be putting strain on current pilots and employees. Some Alaskan Airlines pilots conducted an informational picket on April 1 over management’s “lack of progress” on contract negotiations.“Alaska Airlines failed to properly plan for increased travel demand and take the steps necessary to ensure it attracted and retained pilots,” the Alaska Airlines Master Executive Council of the Air Line Pilots Association said in a press release.“Now, they’re trying to distract the public from their mismanagement and blame the pilots who helped save their company,” the release added. “Pilot leaders have been warning for years that pilots will choose to fly for other airlines due to an inadequate contract that will only exacerbate existing staffing challenges.”Delta Air Lines pilots have also engaged in informational picketing over the last few months, expressing concerns over their schedules and flight times.“This informational exercise by some of our off-duty pilots won’t disrupt our operation for our customers,” Delta said in an emailed statement. “We continuously evaluate our staffing models and plan ahead so that we can recover quickly when unforeseen circumstances arise, and the resilience of the Delta people is unmatched in that regard.”For many air carriers, disagreements between labor unions and management “could have a material impact on the company’s network efficiency and could produce customer service problems,” Citi analyst Stephen Trent in a research note. Moreover, bargaining concessions could turn out to be more expensive than expected, Trent added, pressuring margins.But the biggest pressure to margins could come in the shape of rising fuel costs. On Tuesday, American Airlines ( AAL ) indicated that it expects its cost for jet fuel to be between $2.80 and $2.85 per gallon for its first quarter, up from previous projections guiding for $2.73 and $2.78 per gallon. Delta, which reported first-quarter earnings Wednesday, attributed an 11% increase in operating expenses partly to higher fuel prices, which the airline sees rising even more in the second quarter.“Rising fuel prices will have an impact on airline tickets as such that it creates demand destruction, where people will stop wanting to travel,” said Peter Earle, economist at the American Institute for Economic Research.American Airlines announced in February it would reduce international flights this summer due to production delays for new Boeing ( BA ) 737 jets. These cuts were in addition to route reductions previously announced in December.Yet despite the challenges, today’s airline industry isn’t the same as the one that suffered after it was caught off guard by the Sept. 11 attacks, Earle said.“They’re a lot more flexible, and they’ll be able to deal with some of the things that are happening right now,” he said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"JBLU":0.9,"AAL":0.9,"DAL":0.9,"UAL":0.9,"ALK":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3118,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9017260617,"gmtCreate":1649778467642,"gmtModify":1676534573698,"author":{"id":"3574796007598692","authorId":"3574796007598692","name":"SC2021","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7db1014f5edc3cd0a7562d4262d0a5a5","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3574796007598692","idStr":"3574796007598692"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Price ","listText":"Price ","text":"Price","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9017260617","repostId":"1119948252","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1119948252","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1649775130,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1119948252?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-12 22:52","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Price Target Changes|Citi Downgraded Starbucks and Cisco; Barclays Cut STM","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1119948252","media":"Benzinga","summary":"UpgradesTD Securities upgraded the previous rating for Louisiana-Pacific Corp LPX from Hold to Buy. With fervent investor optimism and rapid top-line growth, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer now has a market cap north of $1 trillion, making it one of the most valuable companies in the world.As investors try to find the next wave of potential market-beating stocks, it can be helpful to look back at the recipe for a stock like Tesla, or any of the technology giants, to reach such high market values.To reach a market capitalization of over $1 trillion this decade, there are three basic criteria a business needs:A revenue base already in the billions.A huge total addressable market (TAM).A track record of rapid, top-line growth.Airbnb and Coupang fit these criteria perfectly. Here's why they might be worth more than Tesla by 2030.1. Airbnb: Redefining travelAirbnb is a travel marketplace where individuals can charge travelers to stay at properties they own. These properties can be anything from megamansions in Beverly Hills to treehouses in the rainforest of Australia; essentially, they allow people to stay at unique locations that are different from hotels. The idea was started by Brian Chesky and two others in 2008, and since then the platform has grown like gangbusters. Today, Airbnb has a market cap of $105 billion.In 2021, the company had 300 million nights and experiences booked on the platform, up 56% year over year, as the world slowly recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, nights booked are still down 8% from 2019, which shows that travel has still not recovered fully around the globe. Revenue came in at $6 billion in 2021, growing 77% year over year, and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) were $1.6 billion. That gives the company a profit margin of 26.6% even while facing a headwind from the pandemic.So Airbnb fits two of the three criteria with a large revenue base and strong top-line growth. But what about the TAM? The travel and tourism industry is one of the largest in the world, at $9.2 trillion worldwide in 2019 (the last two years have been lower because of the pandemic). Airbnb only serves a portion of the industry right now and has many competitors like hotels and other travel platforms like Booking.com and VRBO. But with so much consumer spending every year, Airbnb's annual revenue has a very high ceiling.With a great track record of growth, a huge market opportunity, and high profit margins, I think Airbnb has a chance to hit a market cap of $1 trillion by 2030.2. Coupang: The Amazon of South KoreaCoupang is an e-commerce company in South Korea with a similar business model to Amazon's. It has a wide selection of products along with its own fulfillment and delivery network, which gives it an advantage over competitors. This has allowed Coupang to rapidly gain e-commerce market share in Korea, growing from 7.4% in 2017 to 15.7% last year. Like Amazon, Coupang also has a premium subscription service called Rocket WOW that offers free shipping and special perks. It had 9 million members at the end of 2021.Last year, Coupang generated $18.4 billion in revenue, up 54% year over year. As you can see from its market share numbers, it still has room to grow within its home market. Yet, to have a chance of becoming a trillion-dollar business, it will have to expand. Luckily, it already has a ton of initiatives to make this happen. First, on top of its e-commerce platform, it is launching an advertising business and streaming video (again, similar to Amazon) that will hopefully increase spending and profitability. Second, it is expanding outside traditional e-commerce into grocery and food delivery. Third, it has plans to expand outside of South Korea to Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, and potentially other regions in Southeast Asia.Unlike Airbnb, Coupang has low margins, generating less than $3 billion in gross profit last year and a net loss. This means that it will likely have to have a much larger revenue base by 2030 to achieve a market cap of $1 trillion. But with close to $20 billion in revenue already, consistent market share gains, new business initiatives, and international expansion, I think Coupang can grow its top-line revenue at a high rate for a long time.While it is clear that both Coupang and Airbnb have a chance to reach a market cap of $1 trillion, you should remember that there are risks with any investment. Nothing is guaranteed in the stock market, and if you buy either of these stocks, you are not guaranteed to have market-beating returns over the next decade. But right now, both companies show promise that is worthy of consideration.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"TSLA":1,"CPNG":0.9,"ABNB":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3034,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9015108009,"gmtCreate":1649433320183,"gmtModify":1676534511986,"author":{"id":"3574796007598692","authorId":"3574796007598692","name":"SC2021","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7db1014f5edc3cd0a7562d4262d0a5a5","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3574796007598692","idStr":"3574796007598692"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Heng Ong HUAT Ah!","listText":"Heng Ong HUAT Ah!","text":"Heng Ong HUAT Ah!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9015108009","repostId":"1130102683","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1130102683","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Providing stock market headlines, business news, financials and earnings ","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Tiger Newspress","id":"1079075236","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8274c5b9d4c2852bfb1c4d6ce16c68ba"},"pubTimestamp":1649427205,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1130102683?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-08 22:13","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Crypto Stocks Dropped in Morning Trading","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1130102683","media":"Tiger Newspress","summary":"Block, Marathon Digital, Riot Blockchain, BIT Mining, SOS, Paypal and Coinbase fell between 1% and 5","content":"

Block, Marathon Digital, Riot Blockchain, BIT Mining, SOS, Paypal and Coinbase fell between 1% and 5%.

","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html;
